Fine; Offered with the original watercolor for the plate of the Fukien Slaty Bunting (Emberiza siemsseni), plate 29 in the set. Watercolor over pencil outline on paper, approximately 28 x 19 5/8 inches (71.5 x 50 cm) sight, signed J. F. Lansdowne (l.l.) and dated 1991; framed. In immaculate condition. The watercolors by J. Fenwick Lansdowne for this work are among the highest achievements of ornithological art. The Fukien Slaty Bunting, depicted here, is represented by a male specimen, distinguishable by its dark slaty-blue plumage, seen in its natural snowy habitat. This elephant-folio-sized set of ornithological plates, a triumph in their artistry, follows in the tradition of the great illustrated natural history monographs of the past centuries, such as Audubon's masterpiece, The Birds of America. The artist, Frederick Lansdowne, was born in 1937 in Hong Kong to British parents and grew up in British Columbia, Canada. Stricken with polio as a baby, he developed both his love of birds and his talent as a painter from a young age, holding his first museum exhibition in 1952 at the Royal British Columbia Museum when he was just fourteen years old. As one of the world's foremost wildlife painters, often referred to as Audubon's successor, he is the artist who best maintained the tradition of bird painting and publishing into the late 20th century. Similar to Audubon, he would both study his subjects in the field and use museum collections of preserved specimens to paint his highly detailed and accurate watercolors. He died in Canada in 2008.The magnificent collotype plates include the following birds: Impeyan Monal Lophophorus impejanus; Temminck's Tragopan Tragopan temminckii; Satyr Tragopan Tragopan satyra; Swinhoe's Pheasant Lophura swinhoei; Elliot's Pheasant Syrmaticus ellioti; Mikado Pheasant Syrmaticus mikado; Blood Pheasant Ithaginis cruentus; Brown Eared Pheasant Crossoptilon mantchuricum; Himalayan Snowcock Tetraogallus himalayensis; Taiwan Magpie Urocissa caerulea; Chinese Parrotbill Paradoxornis heudei; Siberian Crane Grus leucogeranus; Rufous-necked Hornbill Aceros nipalensis; White Stork Iconia ciconia; Crested Ibis Nipponia nippon; White Eared Pheasant Crossoptilon crossoptilon; Japanese Crane Grus japonensis; Cabot's Tragopan Tragopan caboti; Mrs. Hume's Pheasant Syrmaticus humiae; Steller's Sea Eagle Haliarrtus pelagicus; Oriental Hobby Falco severus; Chinese Monal Lophophorus ihuysii; Omei Shan liocichla Liocichla omeiensis; Silver Oriole Oriolus mellianus; Blyth's Tragopan Tragopan blythii; Firethroat Erithacus pectardens; Scaly-sided Merganser Mergus squamatus; White-necked Crane Grus vipio; Fulien Slaty Bunting Latoucheornis siemsseni; Sclater's Monal Lophophorus sclateri; Black-necked Crane Grus nigricollis; Brown Wood Owl Strix leptogrammica. No condition report? Luis Niño (Potosi, Bolivia, active between 1737 and 1750)."The Triumph of the Eucharist" Oil on canvas.  110 x 80 cm. Luis Niño was a prominent Indigenous painter and sculptor active in Potosí during the first half of the 18th century. Chroniclers such as Diego Arzans y Vela described him as an extraordinarily talented artist who blended Baroque influences with Indigenous spirituality to create visually striking and symbolically rich compositions.  This painting features a hierarchical structure that includes Christian elements such as the Virgin and the Most Holy Sacrament, surrounded by musical angels framed by lush gold brocade work—a hallmark of Potosí’s viceregal art.  Compared to other works by Niño, such as *The Virgin of Sabaya* and *The Virgin of the Rosary* (housed in the Museo de la Moneda in Potosí and the Recoleta in Sucre, respectively), the painting retains the compositional structure and decorative motifs characteristic of his style. The arrangement of musical angels at the top and the inclusion of anthropomorphic architectural elements demonstrate stylistic coherence across his works. In contrast to paintings like *Our Lady of Victory of Malaga* (at the Denver Museum), this painting reveals a more pronounced international influence, adapted to the local context by Niño.  They reflect both European traditions and Andean influences.  In the lower plane, the Virgin Mary and Marian symbols highlight the spiritual connection between heaven and earth. Her presence, superimposed over the landscape, evokes the symbolic identification between Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the Virgin Mary—a common evangelization strategy to ease the acceptance of Christianity among Indigenous peoples.  The color palette relies on warm tones, with golds and reds standing out against a muted background, creating a contrast that draws the viewer’s attention to central elements.  The gold brocade technique, meticulously applied to the angels’ and Virgin’s garments, showcases the artist’s technical skill and ability to harmoniously integrate decorative elements. Oil paint combined with gold detailing creates a richly textured surface that reflects light uniquely, enhancing the scene’s spirituality.  Historically, Niño’s work emerged during the consolidation of mestizo Baroque in Upper Peru (modern-day Bolivia), where artistic expressions reflected the interplay between European traditions and Indigenous beliefs. Niño worked in a context deeply shaped by Potosí’s mining exploitation, a major source of wealth for the Spanish Empire, where Indigenous mitayos (forced laborers) played a crucial role. Through his art, Niño reclaimed Indigenous artistic capabilities, as noted by Arzans, who compared his creations to those of classical European masters.  This painting exemplifies Luis Niño’s technical mastery. By blending Christian iconography with Indigenous traditions and symbols, Niño crafted a visual narrative that resonated with both colonial elites and Indigenous communities. His legacy bridges two worlds, affirming Indigenous cultures’ capacity to dialogue, adapt, and resist through artistic creation.  Reference Bibliography:- Chacón Torres, M. (1973). Bernardo Rodriguez (active in Quito, Ecuador, circa 1770)"Saint Raymond of Penyafort"Oil on copper.21 x 16,5 cm.Attributed to the renowned painter Bernardo Rodríguez, an emblematic figure of the 18th-century Quito School, this work reflects his technical and artistic mastery and is executed in oil on copper. The precision of details and delicacy of brushwork suggest the piece probably dates to the mid-18th century. The artist’s draftsmanship is exceptional, evident in the composition’s impeccable organization and meticulous treatment of details. We compare this copper painting to other depictions of saints like Jerome and Augustine, also attributed to Rodríguez, which, alongside works of Saints Ambrose and Gregory the Great, form the series of the Four Fathers of the Church at the Museo de San Agustín in Quito (Ecuador). Such comparisons highlight Rodríguez’s skill in gilding and his ability to infuse artistic grandeur into even small-format compositions, as seen here. The portrayal of Saint Raymond of Peñafort adds unique dynamism through its maritime narrative and subtle landscape details.Similarly, the painting “Saint Anthony of Padua and the Miracle of the Resurrection” at Quito’s Museo Convento de San Francisco enriches this comparative analysis due to stylistic and compositional parallels with the depiction of Saint Raymond we have here. Though Saint Anthony is painted on canvas and lacks gilding, both works share remarkable precision in rendering the saint’s figure and a focus on spiritual depth. The treatment of facial features, posture, and drapery reveals evident similarities, pointing to stylistic coherence within the Quito artistic context. This context was deeply shaped by the expansion of Christian faith in Latin America and the use of art as an evangelizing tool. Such narratives were especially relevant in viceregal territories, where missionaries faced similar challenges. The Quito School, in this regard, adeptly adapted European influences into a visual language that responded to local spiritual and cultural needs. As noted by the Cervantes Virtual Center, “Bernardo Rodríguez, a muralist and painter, was a highly distinguished master among religious motif practitioners in viceregal Quito.” Supported by the Church throughout his career, he “enjoyed privileged opportunities to create canvases now admired in Quito Cathedral, the Museo de Arte Colonial, and the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana.” His impeccable craftsmanship was inherited by disciples like Quito’s Antonio Salas (1795–1860).Saint Raymond, clad in a Dominican habit brought to life through dynamic fabric folds, dominates the center of the composition. The marine backdrop, rendered in subtle blue and white brushstrokes, evokes serenity and depth. Distant ships reinforce the narrative of the miracle, while the gilded halo and reflections on the saint’s cloak showcase the painter’s flawless mastery of materials, achieving a luminosity that elevates the painting’s spirituality—a radiant “small window to heaven” brimming with vibrant color and light. The artwork depicts Saint Raymond of Penyafort (Vilafranca del Penedès, 1176–Barcelona, 1275), a 12th-century Dominican friar and canon lawyer, experiencing the miraculous event that occured in his life. King James I, who sought his counsel, once took him on a journey to Majorca, secretly accompanied by a woman with whom the king had an illicit relationship. Upon learning this, Raymond urged the king to dismiss her, threatening to leave otherwise. The king failed to comply, and responded by ordering that no ship carry Raymond home. Undeterred, the saint spread his cloak upon the water, transforming it into an improvised vessel to cross the Mediterranean to Barcelona—a testament to how true faith can calm even the stormiest waters.A Doctor of Canon and Civil Law, Raymond was acclaimed and chosen to teach at the University of Bologna, where his students were primarily nobles and scholars. After experiencing a vision of the Virgin Mary, he co-founded the Mercedarian Order with Saint Peter Nolasco to redeem captives from Muslim rule. Summoned to Rome by Pope Gregory IX, he served as confessor, chaplain, and penitentiary. He played a role in establishing the Inquisition in Aragon and compiled five volumes that became the most organized collection of church law until the 1917 Code of Canon Law. After a decade of writing, he was elected head of the Dominican Order, succeeding Saint Dominic, and retired at nearly 100 years old. He is the patron saint of canon lawyers, jurists, and legal institutions. He died on the 6th January 1275 and was canonized in 1601 by Pope Clement VIII. Iconographically, the elements in the painting hold profound symbolism. The outstretched black cloak alludes to the miracle, while the maritime landscape, with its expansive horizon and traversing ships, adds narrative depth, situating the saint within a context of triumph and hope.Though rare, other depictions of Saint Raymond in Latin America include the portrait at Tlacochahuaya’s San Jerónimo Church in Mexico and the Convent of Santa Rosa de Lima in Santiago de Chile. In essence, this small copper painting brims with life, movement, and perspective, its lapis lazuli blues and mastery of gilding and pointillism perfecting the saint’s figure. An 18th-century scalloped and gilded frame rounds off the composition,  Bibliographic References:- Centro Virtual Cervantes. A LARGE KASHMIRI GILT, POLYCHROME-PAINTED AND LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ FIRE BELLOWS Kashmir, Northern India, mid to late 19th centuryWith a heart-shaped head lined on the sides with red-dyed leather and brass studs, and long, narrow double handles, the lacquered wooden components painted in polychromes and gold, each side decorated with traditional Kashmiri decorative motifs, one side featuring a fine golden vegetal grid with interlocking foliate meanders, split palmette trellis and floral sprays highlighted in red and blue on a white ground, the reverse with a lush floral triumph showcasing an abundance of flower bouquets typical of the region with hyacinths, roses, tulips, and carnations highlighted in gold against a brownish black ground.93cm long Bellows, traditionally used to deliver additional air to a heat source, have been employed in various shapes and forms since at least Ancient Egypt. For instance, pot bellows were recurrently used in the Levant and Egypt as testified by archaeological remains, whilst East Asian territories seem to have preferred box bellows. The shape of this particular example is in line with traditional 19th-century English and Scottish home fire bellows, and yet, its decorative style points towards a different manufacturing origin: Kashmir. Indeed, Kashmiri lacquers seem to have been prized possessions and sought-after keepsakes of European, Scottish and British travellers and officials working in the region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as suggested by the vast quantities of decorative and functional objects found in English countryside homes. This fire bellows must have been produced in a similar set of circumstances, most probably a private commission, presenting today a remarkable witness of 19th-century Anglo-Indian art. 93cm long Qty: 1

Registration No: XBD 973S Chassis No: 3972FM MOT: ExemptComprehensively restored over a 7 year period totalling £46,235.75Fitted with triple Weber carbs, 'fast-road' cam and adjustable suspensionWorthy of close inspection, the paint, both on top and underneath the car, is exceptionalRe-trimmed in leather and AlcantaraIntroduced at the October 1972 Earls Court Motor Show, TVR’s flagship 3000M model was powered by a Ford 3-litre V6 allied to four-speed manual transmission. Acclaimed by the contemporary press for its performance and handling, the two-seater tempted 654 buyers away from more mainstream choices (such as the Triumph TR6 or Jaguar E-Type).Quite possibly the nicest TVR 3000M we will ever encounter, ‘XBD 973S’ is an object lesson in the perils of liking things to be ‘just so’. Drawing upon the expertise of three Colchester-based firms, the vendor spent seven years and £46,235.75 having the two-seater restored to his satisfaction. G. Clarke & Son refurbished the fibreglass bodywork and painted it not once but twice (the second occasion after the installation of re-engineered door hinges etc). Python Racing not only overhauled the Essex 3-Litre V6 (including conversion to triple Weber carburettors) but also fettled the differential, steering, brakes, suspension and alloy wheels as well as undertaking the reassembly. SF Car Trim crafted a bespoke Black Nappa leather and Alcantara interior. Almost as clean underneath as it is on top, you can tell that ‘XBD 973S’ was a real labour of love. Worthy of close inspection, this exceptional TVR is offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, full-sized spare wheel rim and restoration documentation. Registration No: VHN 177 Chassis No: TS2304 MOT: ExemptAcquired by the vendor, an accomplished engineer, during the Covid-19 Lockdown and treated to an exhaustive and wholly uneconomic restoration!Potentially eligible for the Mille Miglia Storica as a 'Long Door' plus other prestigious eventsKept deliberately stock with the exception of the gearlever activated overdrive and hi-torq starter motorBumpers come with the car (but are not fitted)Refinished in its factory colours (albeit with leather upholstery)In the context of industrial Britain's post-war 'export-or-die' drive, the personal rivalry between Jaguar's William Lyons and Standard-Triumph's Sir John Black only served to increase pressure on the latter's new sportscar project. Unveiled at Earls Court in 1952, favourable public reaction saw Triumph charge Ken Richardson with the task of translating its Type 20TS show car (often referred to as TR1) into production reality. Embarking on an intensive research and development programme, he designed a bespoke chassis built around an eighty-eight inch wheelbase. Equipped with independent coil sprung front suspension, a live rear axle and all round drum brakes, it was powered by a revised version of the company's 1991cc, OHV Vanguard engine. Developing an unstressed 90bhp this torquey unit was mated to a four-speed plus overdrive gearbox. Differing from the Type 20TS in offering a boot and internal spare wheel location, the prototype TR2s proved unexpectedly fast as witnessed by the 125mph (race trim) and 105mph (road trim) maximums posted by Richardson on a closed section of Belgian Jabbeke highway in Spring 1953. Deemed ready, the first production TR2 emerged in July that year. A decidedly rare survivor as an early, ‘Long Door’, home market, matching chassis and engine numbers example, chassis TS2304 was acquired by the vendor in July 2019. An accomplished engineer, he subjected the Triumph to an exhaustive and wholly uneconomic restoration during the Covid-19 lockdown. Off the road for decades, the TR2 had reputedly had its engine and chassis refurbished in the late 1980s / early 1990s but the wingless body was in a parlous state. The four-vent bonnet, boot lid and doors were present and the seller managed to reconstruct the tub using the renewed beams underpinning the ‘A’ and ‘B’ posts as fixed datum points. Not easily deterred, he spent three days refining the bonnet release mechanism. The completed body was painted on a rotisserie and the engine stripped to check that the earlier overhaul had been done properly. The gearbox and overdrive unit were rejuvenated and the propshaft balanced. The overdrive switch was incorporated atop the gearlever. The carburettors and fuel pump were renovated and a stainless steel exhaust system fitted. The original Triumph front wishbones did not permit camber angle adjustment and so were substituted for bespoke items which did. The project also encompassed the following new / reconditioned components: brake master cylinder / copper lines, aluminium fuel tank, copper fuel lines and matched sender unit, renovated (or new) instruments and drive cables, rejuvenated wiper motor, refreshed radiator together with Revotec Electric Fan and manual override and replacement wiring loom (changing the polarity to negative). The original dynamo was refurbished, a “hi-torque” starter motor added and new seat frames trimmed in leather to the original pattern. The previously re-chromed windscreen frame received new laminated glass and wind deflectors. A new hood, tonneau cover, fire extinguisher, Michelin X radials, carpets, headlights and sound deadening material were sourced too. Refinished in its original colours and potentially eligible for a host of VSCC events plus the Mille Miglia Storica, this delightful TR2 is worthy of close inspection. A full photographic record was kept of the restoration journey as well as receipts for parts and sub-contracted work (panel welding and painting) KEY ORIGINAL SPECIFICATION FEATURES:UK registered from new (Green Log book, Heritage Certificate), and restored to original factory colours and specification eg. drum brakesEligible for VSCC events (current “buff form”) and Mille Miglia RetroCorrect internal dual bonnet catches, painted bonnet and boot catchesFabric style piping (not chrome)4 vent bonnet and correct internal catchesSupplied with the car are: correct jack, side screens (In need of reconditioning), new front and rear bumpers (not fitted), workshop manual and owners handbook. Registration No: MWV 105J Chassis No: CC64633L0 MOT: ExemptFinished in a fetching Primrose Yellow with Black interiorLHD export example that was repatriated back to the UK in 1992Subject to an engine overhaul, two new bumpers and attention to the clutch in current ownershipFitted with period-looking alloy wheelsIntroduced in 1968 as a replacement for the outgoing TR250/TR5 models, the Triumph TR6 proved a strong seller on both sides of the Atlantic. Crisply styled, its smooth flowing lines and Kamm tail hid a cruciform-braced chassis equipped with all-round independent suspension, disc/drum brakes and rack-and-pinion steering. Powered by a refined 2498cc OHV straight-six engine allied to four-speed plus overdrive manual transmission, it was deceptively fast with contemporary road testers recording 0-60mph in 8.2 seconds and a 121mph top speed. Writing in 1969, Autocar magazine went as far as to comment that "Even if the Austin-Healey 3000 had not been dropped, the TR6 would have taken over as the he-man's sports car in its own right".Finished in a fetching Primrose Yellow with Black interior and Black hood, 'MWV 105J' is a LHD export example that was repatriated back to the UK in 1992. Self evidently the subject of past restoration work it is fitted with a set of period-looking alloy wheels. Subject to an engine overhaul, two new bumpers, and attention to the clutch in current ownership the Triumph has spent more recent years in the car-friendly climate of the Mediterranean and is offered with a current V5c document. Registration No: PHM 842L Chassis No: LD206450 MOT: March 2026Pleasingly retains its Triumph 3 litre V8 mated to a manual overdrive gearboxFitted with a Holley carburettor and tubular free flow exhaustOffered with history file and current V5CSubject to mechanical fettling in current ownershipIntroduced in June 1970, the Triumph Stag was conceived as a luxury convertible sportscar to rival the likes of the R107-series Mercedes-Benz SL. As such, it came equipped with electric windows, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, and servo-backed disc / drum brakes as standard. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell (stylist Giovanni Michelotti had physically shortened a pre-production Triumph 2000 saloon in order to fashion the initial prototype), the newcomer featured all-round independent suspension (McPherson strut front / semi-trailing arm rear) and a well laid-out 2+2 cabin. Neatly integrated, the substantial roll-over hoop that joined the B-pillars gained extra strength from a T-bar link to the windscreen frame. With some 145bhp and 167lbft of torque on tap from its bespoke 2997cc SOHC V8 engine, the model was reputedly capable of 120mph. Available with a choice of four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission, all but the earliest Stags benefited from both hard and soft-top roofs. Despite being in production for seven years, during which time 25,877 cars were made, a mere 9,500 or so are thought to have survived.Finished in the classic combination of White with Black upholstery and a Black soft-top, this ‘home market’ example was first registered on April Fools’ Day 1973. Featuring the more desirable four-speed manual plus overdrive transmission, the Triumph pleasingly retains its original 3-litre V8 engine which has been uprated with a Holley four-barrel carburettor and freer-flowing tubular exhaust. Treated to a new clutch (including uprated thrust bearing) and associated master / slave cylinders, the Stag has also had attention paid to its rear crankshaft seal, fuel pump, viscous fan assembly, rocker cover gaskets and rear bushes. Expected to be MOT tested by the time of the auction, despite being eligible for exemption, ‘PHM 842L’ is said to ‘drive very well’. Offered for sale with V5C Registration Document and history file.**PLEASE NOTE** Since the catalogue has gone to print, the vendor has identified a £15,884.26 bill from ‘Racestorations’ in 1997 which included:Full engine rebuild, unleaded, new clutch.Holly carburettor conversionKenlowe fan auto kitStainless steel exhaustGearbox rebuilt and upratedOverdrive rebuiltDifferential rebuilt New radiatorNew alternatorSuspension reconditioned see listingBodywork repaired all major rust removedRepainted Glacier White including engine bayWax oyled and stone chipped undersideElectrics repaired where requiredNew windscreenBest quality Carpet Set & KitInterior Trim Kit reconditioned as required plus new hoodStrut gaiters x 2Tie Rod End x 2Strut Inserts x 2Engine Mounts & GearboxFan BeltsEngine HosesGear Lever Binnacle & Surround ReconditionedBrake Pipe KitRear Brake LiningsU/j's x 6Trailing Arm bushes x 4Aeroquip Brake Flexy’sFront/Rear Road Springs x 4 For more information, please contact: Oliver Fernyhough-Martin oliver.fernyhough-martin@handh.co.uk 07483 361000

Lot 36

Registration No: 264 PPO Chassis No: TS63903 MOT: ExemptA 'home market' car registered in West Sussex on January 1st 1960The subject of an extensive past restoration by marque specialist Racetorations and still highly presentableOffered for sale with extensive history file and hardtopDue to be driven 160 miles to the saleFinal evolution of the Triumph TR2/TR3 sportscar line (save for the American market TR3B), the TR3A was introduced in September 1957. Its tough boxed section chassis featured independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a leaf sprung 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes. Fitted with a 1991cc four-cylinder OHV unit developing some 104bhp and 117lbft of torque, it was reputedly capable of 110mph. A great sales success on both sides of the Atlantic, the model provided a rather more visceral alternative to its MG and Jaguar competition. Great fun to drive, the ‘sidescreen TRs’ have long enjoyed a keen following among enthusiasts. Although, finding a 'home market' example can be a challenge given that just 1,896 of the 58,236 cars made remained in the UK. Assembled by its previous (eighth) keeper, a British aerospace engineer, this rare, ‘home market’ TR3A comes with one of the most voluminous history files we have ever encountered. Specified with a heater, hardtop and Michelin X tyres, the Roadster was despatched from the Works on 15th December 1959 to S. Hicks & Son of Truro. Reallocated to a Sussex-based Standard Triumph dealership, it was supplied new to a Mr Clifford of Worthing. Thereafter, the nominal 2+2-seater is known to have belonged to K.S. Sparling, A.I. Graham, J. Carlton, Racetorations, R.A. Forsyth, W.R. Washbourne and D.J. Lee before entering the current custodianship during 2023. Having been prepared for road rallies by marque specialist Racetoraions some thirty years earlier at Mr Carlton’s behest, the TR3A had its original engine overhauled and enlarged (87mm bore), suspension and brakes uprated and a TR4 all-synchromesh gearbox with overdrive installed. A Kenlowe fan and stainless steel exhaust were added too, the recorded mileage at the time being a believed genuine 47,750 or so. Subsequent owner Mr Forsyth then tasked the same company with carrying out a bare metal bodywork restoration plus an interior re-trim and sundry re-chroming etc in 1995. Showing 60,086 miles when bought by Mr Lee, he kept the Triumph for the next sixteen years using it on numerous Mendip Classic Tours and Chipping Sodbury Classic Runs. As well as routine maintenance, he treated the Roadster to a new crank seal, facet fuel pump, hi-torque starter motor and brake hoses etc. Starting readily and running well during our recent photography session, ‘264 PPO’ has some minor blemishes but remains, to our eyes, highly presentable. Enjoyed on a run to the Goodwood Revival last year and due to be driven some 160 miles to IWM Duxford, this delightful TR3A is thought to have covered a mere 68,000 miles from new. Offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, Heritage Certificate, hardtop, weather equipment and history file. Lot 131

Registration No: VU06 LZK Chassis No: SA944200004K00263 MOT: July 2025Listing just three former keepers from new (two of which were husband and wife)Displaying just 19,861 warranted miles on the odometer at the time of consignmentSupplied with full weather equipmentFirst seen in 1950 having been announced at the Earl's Court Motor Show, the Morgan Plus 4 was a larger and more powerful derivative of the company's 4/4 and remained in production on and off for seventy years. The Plus 4 at its introduction was fitted with a 2088 cc Standard Vanguard engine installed on a widened and strengthened 4/4 chassis with a wheelbase lengthened by 4 in (102 mm). Hydraulic brakes, initially all drum, were fitted for the first time on a Morgan. The Plus Four went from strength to strength and was upgraded with the Triumph TR2 and TR3 power units and ended production in 1969. For 1985, the Plus Four name was again reintroduced with the Series 2 featuring a Fiat Twin Cam 2.0 Litre engine followed by a Rover M16i engine from 1988 which carried through until production again ended in 2000. For 2004 however, the model was relaunched now powered by the Ford Duratec engine mated to a five-speed Mazda gearbox. Power was now 145bhp (later upgraded to 154hp) however Morgan still stuck to their traditional build methods for body construction. The model was again upgraded in 2020 and continues to be sold today, as one of their most popular models. According to the build ticket on file within the Morgan leather bound presentation folder, chassis SA944200004K00263 was ordered new by supplying dealer Allon White Sportscars and specified in the attractive colour scheme of Land Rover Oxford Blue Metallic over a Muirhead Heron Grey leather interior, with a Black hood. Registered with the DVLA as ‘VU06 LZK’, it was initially used as a demonstrator before being sold to the first private owner, a Mr D Stanley, in February 2007. Mr Stanley kept the car for some twelve years before passing away, and his widow took custodianship of the car in 2019. The vendor took ownership of the Morgan in July 2020 with 16,519 miles displaying on the odometer, purchasing it through Classic Chrome Ltd of Mortlake London and becoming the fourth owner. The vendor has had the car maintained to a very high standard during his ownership, entrusting works to SGT of Maidenhead, with the fitment of a new Alloy radiator during 2021 and with the most recent service evidenced by an invoice at 19,177 miles during July 2023.Now offered for sale due to the vendor not finding time to use the car, it is said to be in ‘very good’ condition cosmetically, with a paint crack on the offside rear wing being the only noticeable defect apart from age related wear. The rest of the car is described as ‘very good to excellent’ and presented for our photoshoot extremely well indeed. To be sold complete with tonneau cover, hood bag, three spare keys, the aforementioned Morgan leather bound build file, receipts for works, service stamp book showing a total of twelve stamps (now full and not including the service during 2023) and a full suite of MOTs since new, this delightfully spec’d Morgan was consigned displaying just 19,861 miles on the odometer and is due to be driven 50 miles to the sale.PLEASE NOTE: The private registration number 'X20 TWO' photographed has been removed and is not included in the sale of this lot. A RED PAINTED ASH LAMINATE PRINCE OF WALES INVESTITURE CHAIR DESIGNED BY LORD SNOWDON IN 1969 AND MANUFACTURED BY REMPLOY With motto 'Ich Dien' and Prince of Wales feathers in gilt, with original red covered seats 30 ¾ in. (78 cm.) high; 21 ½ in. (54.5 cm.) wide; 20 in. (51 cm.) deep The Investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1969 was Lord Snowdon's crowning achievement. He was invited by HM The Queen to oversee the ceremony - as a Welshman, member of the Royal family and foremost a designer he was an inspired choice and was created Constable of Caernarvon Castle for the ceremony. Working with his friend Carl Toms (who had been mentored by Oliver Messel), and John Pound, the brutalist designer from the Ministry of Works, the designs for the ceremony were ground-breaking and celebrated both modernity and antiquity, in a time when Welsh independence and its place within the Union was at risk. The Investiture was a triumph and the chairs Snowdon designed for the event have proven a notable legacy, strikingly modern in form and manufactured at the Remploy factory in Bridgend. When asked about them Snowdon replied 'I am not a modernist for the sake of being modern. I just happen to be alive in 1969'. Lord Snowdon's own pair of investiture chairs were sold Christie's, London, 24 September 2020, lot 92 (£43,750 including premium). Condition Report: Presentable order and apperance overall, some small marks, knocks, scuffs, scratches abrasions consistent with age and useSome knocks and nicks around the legs, some light marks to the upholsteryOverall joints entirely solid and stablePlease see additional images for visual reference to condition and appearance Condition Report Disclaimer
