James probably went to sea at a fairly young age and worked his way up to become a master mariner. The first record of him at sea, at the age of 25, is as the master of the small single mast sloop Boston sailing in coastal waters. In 1814, James then became master of the 356-ton ship ‘Leng’, armed with six 6-pounder guns, bound for the West Indies. The Lloyd's Register for 1820 also recorded that during that year James took over from as master of the 410 ton convict ship Lord Sidmouth. By the age of 35, James had progressed from being master of ships sailing in coastal waters to sailing to the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic, and now to the other side of the World. In 1820 it was reported that the Lord Sidmouth captain Muddle had sailed from Portsmouth on for New South Wales. After a voyage of 107 days, they arrived at Sydney in Australia on 19 February 1821, where 160 male prisoners were disembarked. James and the Lord Sidmouth also sailed to Jakarta, Calcutta, Mauritius. Upon arriving back to England in 1821, James became captain of the prison ship the ‘Andromeda’, which sailed from Leith to to Van Diemans Land and New South Wales. During the following two decades of travels in and around Australia, James will have collected many of the items in the collection. James is also known to have been captain of the ship ‘Lang’, as well as the “Mandarin’, ‘Glenbervie’ and the ‘Roseanne’. He sailed on prison ships to New Zealand and even China. James died in 1865 at the age of 80, and his collection has been passed by descent down the generations to the present owners. For more information please see the link below:https://www.muddlefamilies.info/harrietsham/22eaa.htm

Registration No: N848 WUP Chassis No: SAJJFKLG3BJ781196 MOT: March 2025Presented in the rare colour combination of Glacier White with a Savile Grey Leather interiorImported from Japan in 2022Offered with original Japanese book pack and evidence of recent maintenanceDisplaying only 121,456 km (75,469 miles) at the time of consignment, corroborated by the accompanying history fileThe first Jaguar XJ was launched in 1968 and the XJ designation has been used for successive Jaguar flagship models ever since. The original model was the last Jaguar saloon to have had the input of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder. The Jaguar XJ (X300) was manufactured between 1994 and 1997 and was the first XJ produced entirely under Ford ownership and can be considered an evolution of the outgoing XJ40 generation. Like all previous XJ generations, it features the Jaguar independent rear suspension arrangement with the design emphasis on improved build quality, improved reliability and a return to traditional Jaguar styling elements. The X300 was stylistically intended to evoke the image of the more curvaceous series XJ. The front of the car was redesigned significantly to return to four individual round headlamps that provided definition to the sculptured bonnet. Mechanically, it was similar to the XJ40 that it replaced. Six-cylinder X300s are powered by the AJ16 inline-six engine which is a further enhancement of the AJ6 engine that uses an electronic distributor-less ignition system.Supplied to the Japanese market on the 8th July 1996, chassis SAJJFKLG3BJ781196 was specified in Glacier White with a Savile Grey leather interior. Supplied with the original book pack, there are a number of service invoices on file from this period. Imported into the UK in 2020, the first UK owner would have the car serviced in December 2020 and kept the car in his private collection prior to having it registered with the DVLA in 2022. The XJ would continue to be maintained to a very high standard with a number of invoices on file from his period of ownership. During June 2022, the Jaguar was sold once more and remained in his custodianship until October 2023, when it was acquired by the vendor. The vendor has continued the high standard of maintenance, with a recent service in July 2024; he also opted to have the rear windows professionally tinted to modernise its specification.'N848 WUP' is described by the vendor as being a 'very good' example and pointed out that at the last service, the specialists commented that it was a 'notably clean example' and described it as 'rust free'. The vendor pointed out that the offside front wing has an area where the paint has lifted, but also advised that it 'drives very well'. Registration No: T550 TNO Chassis No: SAJDKANF3CR877275 MOT: November 2025Rare and desirable LWB Super V8 exampleRegistered new to ‘Jaguar Executive Sales’ of Browns Lane and believed used as a director's carIn current ownership since 2013 and 87,000 miles from newSupplied with a history file including the full book pack in the Daimler walletThe new V8-powered Daimler saloons were introduced in 1997 as part of Jaguar's revised X300 range, a new and highly acclaimed ZF five-speed automatic gearbox arriving at the same time. This state-of-the-art, quad-cam, 32-valve engine was built in capacities of 3.2 and 4.0 litres to power three new Jaguars and two new Daimlers. The new Daimlers comprised of the V8 and Super V8, the latter equipped with a 322bhp supercharged unit, both of which shared the same long-wheelbase four-door saloon body and were equipped to the customarily very high standard of luxury. As well as being V8 powered, the car is taken to other extremes with its very rare supercharging, long-wheelbase and luxurious specification. This luxury came at a price, costing some £10,000 more than any other X300 when new. One of the proudest traditions in Daimler history was that since 1900, when the then Prince of Wales, later HM King Edward VII, purchased his first Daimler car, Daimlers were used by British Kings and Queens, with the Super V8 being no different, Queen Elizabeth II herself having owned one.Manufactured in 1999, this rare and desirable LWB Super V8 was supplied new to ‘Jaguar Executive Sales’ being first registered on the 14th of July and is understood to have been used as a director’s car. Finished from the factory in Madeira Mica paintwork with complementary Oatmeal leather interior upholstery, the Daimler is well specified from climate control to deep pile Daimler carpets. Purchased in February 2001, by the first private owner (with sales invoice present), the Super V8 has since had a total of five private owners and has covered c.87,000 miles from new.Benefitting from a gearbox service and new selector cable in 2017; four new tyres in 2020, brake pipes renewed in 2022 and a new ABS sensor in 2023. Main dealer serviced between 2000 and 2005, five times while covering the majority of its mileage (c.58,500 miles), the Super V8 has additional services documented in the history file. The accompanying Daimler wallet contains the driver's handbook, vehicle care book, and booklets, there's a large collection of previous MOT certificates and history, numerous maintenance and improvement invoices, current V5C documents, a November 2025 MOT with no advisories and original sales literature, as well as two sets of keys. Examples of the very rare LWB Super V8 are few and far between, so this example in a striking colour combination is not one to be missed. Registration No: CVG 547F Chassis No: 11304412000871 MOT: ExemptHighly original machine with 152,200 recorded milesSubject to £12,000 worth of works by the SL shop since import in 2022V5C, collection of invoices and original handbook and service bookFinished in an attractive colour combination of Tobacco Brown complemented to a Tan interiorMercedes have been producing an SL (Sport Leicht) model or range of models since 1954 when the landmark 300SL was unveiled. The similarly styled, but mechanically unrelated, 190 followed in 1955, completing the first generation of cars. Their successor was the W113 series. The last of the line, the 280 SL, was launched in 1968. Blessed with the same effortlessly elegant Paul Bracq styling as its earlier siblings, it was powered by a new seven-bearing crankshaft 2,781cc straight-six engine that developed 170bhp and 180lb ft of torque. The SL was equipped with all-round independent suspension - double wishbones and coil springs at the front and coil sprung swing axles at the rear. Braking was by power assisted on all corners and steering was by recirculating ball. The car's 'square' track gave notably sure-footed handling. Able to blur the divide between city streets and open roads with ease, the majority of 280 SLs were specified with four-speed automatic gearboxes and power-assisted steering. Some 23,885 were made by the time production ceased in 1971, virtually half of which were exported to the USA. The popular W113 'Pagoda' series of cars were replaced by the substantially heavier R107 range.Understood to have been delivered new to the Canadian market on the 2nd April 1968, chassis 11304412000871 was specified in the rare and attractive colour scheme of Tobacco Brown over a Tan M-B Tex interior, with matching Tan hood. Little is known of the early ownership of the top-of-the-range 280SL, however, the original service book on file shows service recordings approximately every 3,000 miles up to 93,000 miles on the 26th May 1976 by the main Mercedes-Benz agent at 36 Yorkville Avenue, Toronto. It is understood that the car stayed in Canada until 2022 and invoices on file suggest much care and attention, including a complete repaint, by its owners up until the vendor purchased the car to import into the UK. Upon arrival in the UK, the Pagoda was registered with the DVLA as ‘CVG 547F’ and the vendor recalls that although it was found to be remarkably solid and delightfully original, mechanical work was necessary to ensure its reliability. The vendor entrusted work to renowned specialist, the SL Shop, of Stratford Upon Avon to provide remedial works to the engine and brakes for which there are invoices on file for some £12,000.Upon inspection, it was noted that the 280SL is a delightfully original example, and the vendor rates the paintwork and bodywork to be in ‘good to very good’ condition although may be improved by a prospective purchaser if perfection is sought. The interior trim work is noted to be exceptionally original and has stood up very well to what is believed to be a genuine 152,500 miles – a sure sign of the quality of components and materials used by Mercedes-Benz produced during this period. Mechanically, the vendor rates the two-seater as ‘very good’ thanks to the works performed and it appeared to be running very smoothly with effortless gear changes from the four-speed automatic transmission when we were driven to the photography location during the consignment process. The convertible hood appears to have been replaced at some point with a correct coloured Tan mohair item, which is rated as in ‘good’ condition by the vendor and the iconic hard top ‘Pagoda’ roof is painted attractively in body colour with its original and very much intact headlining. Now offered to market due to the vendor wishing to pursue other interests, this very attractive example of Mercedes-Benz’s iconic 60’s Grand Tourer would make a fine addition to any collection and is eminently usable thanks to its gorgeous original condition. Potential purchasers would be hard pressed to find a more usable example of the iconic 280SL in a world where most have been extensively restored. - KOLLATION: 2 Bll., 60 S. - PROVENIENZ: Exlibris Gerrit Jan Honig, Zaandyk. - Privatsammlung Frankfurt. LITERATUR: Traeger 510-18. - Runge in seiner Zeit. Kat. Hamburg 1978, 106. - Schröder 3335.1. - Kayser 102. - Kippenberg 5668. - Goedeke VI, 173, 11 (Steffens). - The rare first edition of the important color theory, the first representation of color phenomena in a spherical model. The book is the key to understanding Runge's works of art and of great influence on subsequent theories, right up to Paul Klee and Johannes Itten. - Contemp. half vellum. Edges slightly dusty in places, a few pages with faint creases, the folding plate with small fold marks and its yellow color fields oxidized in places; flyleaf on back. Endpapers removed, book block broken, joint with tear. Interior with wide margins and almost clean. Registration - W203 LNHChassis No. - WBSCM92080LB29620M.O.T. - October 2025Odometer - 100,100With less than 1,000 BMW Z3M Coupes ever making it across the Channel, W203LNH is a member of an exclusive club - a UK supplied and registered example of this remarkable M3 engined coupe. Originally registered in March 2000 this example, finished in evocative Estoril Blue, is offered from long-term private ownership. The current keeper acquired the Z3M in July 2015 with the coupe having covered around 95,000 miles and following a period of approximately four years in storage. Today the electronic odometer reads 100,328 miles, underscoring its light use under its current stewardship. With a sensible 7 keepers to date and offering a valid MOT until October 2025 this charming Z3M is offered with a stamped service book and a number of well-chosen after-market modifications. The product of a skunkworks passion project the Z3M Coupe was divisively styled by renowned BMW stylist, Chris Bangle. This example exhibits all the key characteristics of Bangle’s work. These include a roofline that is deliberately reminiscent of the BMW 328 Mille Miglia from the 1940s, 507 Roadster aping chromed “gills” and stylised, oval door mirrors. The Z3M’s long wheelbase, long bonnet, wide track and short rear end helped earn it the “clown’s shoe” or “bread van” nicknames. This car’s mechanical specification is deadly serious, however. Pre-2001 cars, like this one, were recipients of the engine from the E36 M3. The S50B32 straight-six unit would rev to nearly 8,000 rpm, delivering 321bhp on the way. The standard five-speed manual gearbox and limited slip differential endowed the Z3M with a 0-60mph in the low fives. Reassuringly, the braking system was also lifted directly from the E36 M3.This rare example has enjoyed a few tweaks along the way, too. This Z3M sits on BK Racing adjustable suspension, explaining its decidedly hunkered down stance. This is augmented by H&R uprated roll bars. AP Racing, four pot callipers are fitted and act against quality Ferodo brake pads. An AC Schnitzer short shift gear linkage is present as are AC Schnitzer alloy pedals and performance exhaust system. A carbon airbox concludes the mechanical upgrades whilst a roof panel wrapped in matt black represents the aesthetic changes. In current ownership a new clutch has been fitted, engine, gearbox and differential oils have been changed and a new battery fitted. The Z3M’s exterior condition is rated as “good for its age” by the owner. Note is made, however, of a stone chipped front bumper cover and paint micro blistering to the bonnet. The "Roadstar" Style 40, 17-inch alloy wheels are thought to be original and, by the owner’s admission, could benefit from refurbishment. The cabin appears to have fared well considering age and mileage thanks to BMW’s signature fit and finish credentials. The customary BMW “black on black” treatment is given an exterior matching lift by the ample accents of blue leather and chromed instrument bezels. The interior, predominantly carried over wholesale from the Z3, is further augmented by a trio of ultra-clear VDO auxiliary gauges in the centre console. Other refinements include air conditioning, electric mirrors, windows and sunroof, central locking and alarm. A retrofitted, remote control JVC head unit feeds the original Harmon Kardon speakers. Whilst strictly a two seater, a surprisingly generous and practical 415 litre boot lurks beneath the opening rear hatch. The original BMW toolkit and obligatory first aid kit is reported to be present.Shoehorning the sublime and high revving S50B32, naturally aspirated straight six engine into the diminutive and svelte Z3 (it was a full 135 kg lighter than the E36 M3!) was as barmy as it was inspired. In many ways, however, the Z3M was ahead of its time, considerably dearer than an M3 and, hence, made in relatively tiny numbers – 6,291 to be precise and less than 1,000 in right hand drive, UK specification. Today, however, the car has been rediscovered by individualistic millennials and Gen-Xers with insurance company, Hagerty, reporting 70% of cover requests emanating from that demographic. The Z3M has come of age.In summary:Thoughtfully and subtly upgraded and improvedOffered from long-term, enthusiast ownershipMOT until October 2025 and ready to use and enjoy immediately

Registration - G185 PRRChassis No. - WF0FXXGCAFKC02915M.O.T. - NoOdometer - 89,000This distinctive 1989 Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia Injection, offered at No Reserve, is a rare find that, among Ford enthusiasts, is a cult classic. Effectively the Orion four-door alternative to the Ford Escort XR3i, it has the same 1.6-litre fuel injected CVH engine and five-speed manual gearbox. This car has an odometer reading just 89,000 miles and engine, transmission and electrics are described as ‘excellent’. The vendor says it was a garage find after being stored in the dry for many years. “Totally authentic and original, the car has been lovingly restored, including a full engine overhaul and extensive coachworks. It now shows minimal signs of rust, with no previous accident damage noted.” ‘G185PRR’ has an interior that’s completely original, with all trim and upholstery only showing minor age-related wear and tear, otherwise being in great condition. It has the original Ford stereo and Ghia Injection-spec amplifier – and this car comes with the desirable Ford trip computer. The vendor adds that it has the original book pack and a collection of old bills, including some surviving documentation and previous MOTs. Notably, this 36-year-old car has had just two previous keepers. The Ford Orion is the saloon version of the Ford Escort. Introduced in 1983, it offered a traditional alternative to the futuristic Escort hatchback, and proved popular particularly amongst traditional Ford Cortina drivers who were put off by the aero-look new Ford Sierra. More than 3.5 million were sold in a 10-year period, and the Orion was a regular top-10 best-seller in the UK during the 1980s. The Orion 1.6i Ghia Injection is one of the most collectable Orions, due to its range-topping status and Ford Escort XR3i performance. Rare and collectable Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia Injection offered at No ReserveA garage find that’s been fully restoredFully original and even includes the rare Ford trip computer

Registration - M888 ADAChassis No. - SCFAA1116TK100693M.O.T. - September 2025Odometer - 87,483This fantastic Aston Martin DB7 is resplendent in ultra-desirable black – a rare colour for the DB7. Complementing this is a gorgeous tan leather interior, with matching wood veneer – and a range-topping Nardi Torino wood steering wheel. Bodywork, paintwork and interior are all described by the vendor as being in ‘good’ condition (“the bodywork is virtually pristine”). It uses the classic 3.2-litre supercharged straight-six engine (described as being in ‘excellent’ condition), paired with an enthusiast-pleasing five-speed manual gearbox. The vendor says the unusual private registration is included. It has an MOT valid until the end of August 2025. ‘M888ADA’ comes with its original owner’s manual, with all receipts and no fewer than 25 dealer stamps in the service book. These comprise 15 main dealer stamps and the rest from specialists. The extensive service history portfolio even comes with the original leather-bound wallet, while the car comes with two keys. Recent work includes new suspension in 2023, plus a professional refurbishment of the rear brakes, and some expert spot-welding on the floorpan. “It has been kept in a garage and only used over the summer for most of its pampered life.” The vendor adds that there is some wear on the driver’s seat bolster, “as to be expected, but I have been told that this is easily restorable”. HPI records show this car was recorded as a write-off in 2005, but it was fully repaired and has been used extensively since then. The Aston Martin DB7 was launched in 1994 as a turnaround car for the famous British brand. Famously designed by the legendary Ian Callum, it was derived from a modified version of the Jaguar XJ-S platform. Legend has it the car was originally designed to be a Jaguar replacement to the XJ-S, called the F-Type, but Tom Walkinshaw’s TWR stepped in when Jaguar’s then-owner Ford abandoned the project. Enthusiasts value the early straight-six versions, using a supercharged AJ6 engine, while later cars gained an Aston Martin V12. All Aston Martin DB7 were produced by TWR at a facility in Bloxham, Oxfordshire – the same facility that earlier produced the Jaguar XJ220. In summary:Aston Martin DB7 straight-six in rare black and tanComes with unusual private registrationComprehensive service history includes 25 service stamps

Registration - RS02 BAKChassis No. - WF0BXXGCDB2A88612M.O.T. - June 2025Odometer - 34,000When someone coined the phrase “originality is key,” they could have had RS02BAK in mind. RS02BAK has seemed to completely escape the fate that befell so many of its compatriots – somewhat dubious and ill-considered modification. With just three owners to date having covered a very modest 34,474 miles, RS02BAK represents a thrilling an rare ownership proposition. With a service book bulging with stamps – 12 in all with the latest at 34,355 miles – and an advisory free MOT valid until June 2025, this RS is ready to thrill. To accompany its incomparable originality, RS02BAK comes with the original book pack, OEM RS mats, jack, tools and space saver and even an original marketing brochure. Two original keys are included as is the RS-specific personalised registration plate.Inspired by the Focus RS world rally car of the time, Ford threw the kitchen sink at the RS’s specification. Sachs dampers, wide-track suspension, a Quaife limited-slip diff, OZ wheels and a Garrett turbocharger were just a few of the mechanical goodies featured. The cabin got custom Sparco, RS embossed race seats, splashes of alloy and even some carbon fibre. That’s the good news. The great news is RS02BAK exhibits all these, and more, in stunning original condition. The Imperial Blue livery helps accentuate the bulging wheel arches and the deep front spoiler of RS02BAK. The original OZ Racing, 18-inch five spoke alloys are in excellent shape and provide home to a matching set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres dated 2020. The Brembo emblazoned callipers are clearly visible through the open spokes. The owner rates the paint and bodywork as 4 out of 5, possibly because 4.5 wasn’t an available option. The cabin presents in original specification and the leather and suedecloth seats with their high backs, RS embossing and vibrant blue stripes, emphatically steal the show.RS02BAK features the RS’s turbocharged 2.0 litre Duratec engine, fettled by Ford to originally produce 212 bhp. That doesn’t sound like much today but nether does the sub 1300 kgs of weight it is asked to propel. Consequently 140 mph was readily achievable as was a 0-60 mph time starting with a six. It was the RS’s eagerness and handling finesse that most drivers would rave about, however. Here is your chance to find out what all the fuss is about. In summary:A low mileage, low owner example of this example of noughties hot hatch royaltyPresenting in a rarely seen, entirely original specification and conditionComplete with an exemplary service history and bulging paperwork file

Registration - LA51 BXBChassis No. - WDB2200732A266205M.O.T. - May 2025Odometer - 114,038‘LA51 BXB’ represents a rare example of the performance variant of the popular W220 S-class. Being an early example of the breed, ‘LA51 BXB’ is one of the much scarcer, in the UK, naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8 iterations of this autobahn express. With 360 bhp originally on tap, ‘LA51 BXB’ could hit 60 mph in under six seconds yet cosset and pamper its occupants with the best. ‘LA51 BXB’ is now in the hands of its twelfth keeper with 114,038 miles covered to date. With some cosmetic repairs thought to have been undertaken during 2023, ‘LA51 BXB’ is offered here with NO RESERVE and in a well looked after condition. Complete with an MOT valid until May 2025, two keys (only one unlocks the car but both start it), original book pack, ample service paperwork and spare wheel. The big W220 S-Class executive car suited the AMG treatment surprisingly well. By modern AMG standards, ‘LA51 BXB’s’ exterior enhancements are surprising subtle and eminently tasteful. There are a pair of big, oval AMG embossed chrome tailpipes, AMG badging and the original set of 18-inch, deeper rimmed, five spoke AMG monobloc wheels. These do exhibit a little surface corrosion but are charmingly original. Inevitably there are a few minor dings and a few paint bubbles around the bodywork, but it all appears commensurate with ‘LA51 BXB’s” age and mileage. The commodious cabin is significantly sumptuous, however, and replete with every enhancement Mercedes-Benz and AMG of 2001 could muster. The black leather comes in perforated, ruched and smooth varieties and the front seats are electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated. The rear passengers even enjoy their own fold down, fully illuminated vanity mirrors. Even the rear seats are heated, ventilated and electrically adjustable. An early satellite navigation system is fitted, and the very 2001 Nokia car phone has its own home in the front armrest.Along side that AMG fettled V8, the technical specification includes uprated and larger discs and callipers, Active Body and Active Level Control courtesy of active dampers. A rarely seen example on our shores and certainly one for modern classic, uber saloons. In summary:· Presenting in a good condition for the age and mileage· Seemingly admirably original with an impressively equipped and presented cabin· Complete with a long MOT and ready to luxuriate in immediately

Derivatives of the M3 are developed by BMW’s in-house motorsport division, where BMW have continued to build impressive racing credentials. The M3 Evolution was upgraded from 2,990cc (282bhp) in November 1995 to 3,201cc delivering 321bhp from the legendary S50B32 inline six engine, plus a new six-speed manual gearbox along with other more minor upgrades. Popular amongst circuit competition drivers, the E36 is widely considered as one of the best handling cars of the 1990s and has become a very rare sight on todays roads, due to their popularity with track day enthusiasts, meaning completely original and un-touched examples like this are very hard to come by.This example is specified in stunning Estoril blue metallic with a black Nappa leather interior and the rarer ‘sunflower’ alloy wheels. The car was our vendors company car from brand new and he purchased the car from his company after one year, meaning he has been the sole driver and owner of this car from new, cherishing and always ensuring it has been maintained impeccably. The car is specified with the SMG gearbox, which was cutting edge at the time and allows the driver to change gear with a simple pull or push on the gear selector, or with buttons on the steering wheel. This is an incredibly original example, which comes with all the accessories such as torch, first aid kit, all keys and manuals, tool kit and warning triangle and it has lived a very cossetted life. The paintwork is showing some stone chips on the front end and a few small scratches here and there, to be expected with a 26 year old car and the interior is in excellent condition throughout. In 2002, at approximately 38,000 miles, the engine was completely rebuilt by BMW main dealers. In March 2017, the SMG cables, linkages, relays and fuses were replaced. In July 2020, minor oil leaks were investigated, leading to the differential being removed, stripped and rebuilt and in October 2022, the water pump was replaced. In June 2023, new brake pads and discs were fitted, along with the alloy wheels being fully refurbished; the power steering hose/pipe also being replaced. The car was taken to CPC Engineering in September 2023, who checked the Vanos and determined it was working well. A total of twenty stamps are present in the service book, all from main dealers and BMW specialists, except for four recent services, which were carried out by a local garage when our vendor relocated to Cornwall. The most recent service (Inspection II) was carried out in June 2024 by BMG BMW specialist. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a single owner, original M3 with full documentation in excellent condition. If any car deserves the title of 'Legend', it is the Audi Quattro. The Geneva Motor Show in 1980 was the arena for the launch of Audi's sensational Quattro. It was the first four-wheel drive production car (with the exception of the small production run of the Jensen FF) and with it, Audi dominated the World Rally Championship. The drivers in the very first Quattro team were Hannu Mikkola and Michèle Mouton. Their debut in the 1981 Monte Carlo Rally caused an absolute sensation. In one of those moments that made motorsport history, on a snow-covered surface ten kilometres into the very first special stage, Mikkola overtook a Lancia Stratos that had started one minute before him. Michèle Mouton was the first woman to win a major rally in a Quattro in 1981. It is arguably the most significant car of the post-war era. The initial plan was to build just 400 for the motorsport industry, but due to strong demand the Quattro went into full production and the first left hand drive versions were available in the UK in the spring of 1981, but the right hand drive followed in the Autumn of 1982. The four-wheel drive transmission’s ability to provide traction in all conditions meant that the car re-wrote the rule book in terms of road holding and acceleration. This example has been in the care of our vendor since 1991 and has covered just over 72,000 miles from new, which is low for one of these non turbo cars, they’re so often seen on double, or even triple that, such is their useability and reliability. The car is presented in very smart and original condition, having never been modified and it has clearly always been a cherished car. The history file is comprehensive, with 23 service stamps in the book and an array of invoices, including four extra services, most recently in June 2024 and others showing the various works carried out over the years. These are exceedingly rare cars today and this presents an opportunity to purchase an example which has clearly lived a rather cosseted life, at a fraction of the cost of a comparable turbocharged example.
