Viceregal school. Perú. Central decades of the 18th century (reign of King Ferdinand VI, 1746-1749)“Inauguration of the office of alderman of Lima, of the viceroyalty of Peru, Don Fernando de Rojas Marres” and ”The Exaltation of the House of Nobility of the alderman of Lima, Don Fernando de Rojas Marres”Pair of oil paintings on canvas. 100 x 73 cm. each. The first painting is divided into two parts, the upper part possibly showing the swearing-in or oath of office of the new alderman of Lima, Don Fernando de Rojas Marres of the viceroyalty of Peru, as he climbs the semicircular stairs to the throne from which he will make government decisions. The golden throne is topped by a red curtain and an open crown, clear symbols of power. Behind it, the two Tuscan columns symbolise the strength and fortitude that every ruler must have in order to lead their people. Above the crown, apart from the word ‘fortune’, an allusion to this virtue, the scene is accompanied by two other virtues linked to power and dignitaries, science on the left and fame on the right. The two female figures who bestow symbols of power, the ruler's sceptre and the crown are the ruler's acolytes and witnesses to the scene. The central figure is dressed in the fashion of Ferdinand VI's reign, which dates the painting and its companion piece to the middle decades of the 18th century. To complete the parallelism of the central scene at the top, two noble coats of arms are placed at either end. The one on the right, topped by the helmet of a warrior, indicates the rank of knight or order of nobility of the person, who would in turn belonged to the order of knighthood of Santiago, one of the four most important orders of knighthood in Spain along with those of Calatrava, Montesa and Alcántara. During the restoration of the painting, the change in the iconography of the area of the coat of arms where the eagle is located came to light. Initially there were three vertical golden bands which were covered by the bird, although it is not clear whether this change was made while the painting was being executed or after the work was completed. The other coat of arms, this time with the crown of government, shows very different heraldry with no distinction of knighthood. The change the coat of arms underwent in this painting also affected its counterpart in the other painting. The noble coats of arms could have belonged to Rojas Marres' paternal branch, that of Don Feliciano de Rojas Ponce de León, and to his maternal branch, that of Doña Juana de Marres, or it is also possible that the one on the left could have been his own, that of the alderman, and the one on the right that of his wife, Doña María María Ana Concepción del Castillo Castañeda.Whilst the upper part of the painting represents political power and command over the people and the virtues that accompany the governor in order to govern well, the lower part, the most didactic part of the canvas, shows the values and qualities of the new government through the representation of 32 squares with elements divided into two panels of 16 squares each. The panel on the left represents objects that have explanatory symbolism linked to elements of power, while the panel on the right shows scenes with a written phylactery above them. These panels would have helped to explain the iconological programme, which symbolised the political programme of the new ruler, to the illiterate population, who made up the majority of the indigenous or native peoples at the time. The second painting shows that the importance of the family and its service to the empire rests on the Spanish monarchy and the Catholic faith. As if it were a ‘Tree of Jesse’, the distribution of the different elements that make up the rich and varied composition of the painting are arranged in a highly symmetrical and rational order. The base of the tree rises above the strong figure of the Child Virgin Mary on her throne, iconography that was very popular during the 17th and 18th centuries throughout Latin America, partly due to Zurbarán's paintings that came from the old continent to the ‘New World’. The feather below could refer to the feather of the archangel Saint Gabriel in the Annunciation. Given that the dogma of the Immaculate Conception was a matter of State and of protection by the Hispanic monarchy, the weight of the Crown rests on it and rests on the figure of the Virgin Mary; as one of the columns of Hercules in the coat of arms of Spain, legendary founder of the Hapsburg dynasty, acts as the trunk of the tree with the phylactery bearing the motto ‘NON PLUS ULTRA’, before Charles V and the anagram ‘Victor’ in golden letters. This anagram is flanked by the lion of Spain and the eagle of Saint John, protector of the Spanish monarchy, both also with golden crowns. On this rests the royal crown of the Bourbons, thus constructing the trunk of the compositional tree, where monarchy and religion are the pillars on which the family's noble coat of arms rests, which in turn is crowned by a laurel wreath bearing an angel and a scroll with golden symbols. The different branches of the ‘tree’ are divided according to the symbols and their distribution. In the upper part, the elements depicted are linked to the litanies of the Immaculate Conception, symbols related to the Virgin Mary. At the top is the sun, the eight-pointed star which has been linked to the Virgin Mary since antiquity, and the moon. The king of the day and the queen of the night contemplate the scene. Between there and the middle of the painting are a rose bush and an olive tree on the left, and a bunch of lilies and a cypress on the right, flowers and plants associated with Mary. All the iconographic repertoire, together with the symbols of the Marian litanies in the upper part of the painting, the elements of science (the book, the compass, the globe and the candle that is not extinguished by the four winds, also depicted) and the six virtues in the lower part, justify the service and work of this noble house to the royal house and the Catholic religion, the foundations of the Spanish empire in the Latin American colonies. In conclusion, these two paintings present a political programme for the government of the new ruler of Lima in the 18th century. The importance of this pair of canvases lies precisely in the way they represent this political programme by justifying the noble house as being in the service of the King of Spain and the Catholic faith. To this end, it also makes use of a graceful play of symbols, something rare to see in paintings from Spain itself, but common in the Americas, to educate and explain to the people how their new rulers will exercise their power. We are grateful to the art historian and restorer Ignacio Panicello for cataloguing and identifying these paintings.Provenance: Former collection belonging to Adrián de Rojas Maestre (descendant of the regent of Lima, Don Fernando de Rojas Marres). This family, or part of it, with important historical links, settled in Spain before 1950 at the Finca El Maestre in Seville. The paintings have always belonged to the family. The subject of our paintings, Fernando de Rojas Marrés, was born in Ceuta and died circa 1800 in Madrid. There is a record in the Spanish Historical Archive of his transfer to the Americas as a ‘Merchant of textiles, he went to South America on the ship Aquiles under the charge of Captain Martin Joseph de Echenique, bringing cargo directly to the port of Callao Lima. Record of information and passenger licence to the Indies of Fernando de Rojas y Marres’.

Registration No: 161 XUL Chassis No: BC49CH MOT: Exempt1 of just 45 RHD S1 Continental chassis bodied by Park Ward to its Design Number 701Subject to an extensive restoration which included conversion to Drophead Coupé format by A&B PriceThe beneficiary of approximately £200,000 worth of expenditure with marque specialists such as Frank Dale and Jonathan Padgett in the current ownershipUnveiled in Autumn 1955 some six months after its Bentley S1 Standard Steel Saloon sibling, the Continental version was only available to coach-built special order. Featuring a higher compression ratio and taller back axle ratio, the newcomer was found capable of over 120mph. Underpinned by the same cruciform-braced box-section chassis as the ‘basic’ S1, complete with independent front suspension, a well-located ‘live’ rear axle and servo-assisted four-wheel drum brakes, most of the coachbuilders that clothed it favoured aluminium over steel. Lighter and nimbler than the standard factory offering, Continentals were typically some fifty per cent more expensive too. Long considered among the best engines Bentley ever made, the S1’s 4.9 litre straight-six was famed for its blend of torque, refinement and durability and was thus well-suited to the standard fit four-speed automatic transmission. Among the era's fastest and most exclusive four-seaters, the last of 431 S1 Continentals was completed in 1959. Mentored by A.F. McNeil at J. Gurney Nutting & Co Ltd during the mid-1930s and subsequently promoted to Chief Designer there, John Polwhele Blatchley joined Rolls-Royce during WWII. A stylistic influence on every generation of Bentley from the MkVI through to the T-Series, he took control of in-house coachbuilder Park Ward’s designs from 1952 onwards and was later credited with penning the Rolls-Royce Corniche. Decidedly elegant but with various a la mode twists such as its subtly integrated vestigial tail finds, Park Ward’s Design Numbers 700 and 701 for the Bentley S1 Continental chassis were typical of Blatchley’s creative ethos. Evolving through issues one and two, later versions of the sleek, two-door Drophead Coupé and Fixed Head Coupé variants utilised the same tail-lights as the Standard Steel Saloon integrating them into the base of the tailfins. Park Ward bodied a total of sixty-nine Bentley S1 Continental chassis to its Design Number 701 (with forty-five being to right-hand drive specification) with a further eighty-nine Drophead Coupés to Design Number 700. The aluminium clad Drophead Coupé is considered to be one of the most desirable Bentley Continental variants and therefore examples today are regularly seen for sale at more than £1,000,000. This has resulted in a small number of Fixed Head Coupes being converted to Drophead Coupe specification. According to Martin Bennett’s authoritative book ‘Bentley Continental, Corniche and Azure’, chassis BC49CH was bodied by Park Ward as a Fixed Head Coupe to its Design Number 701. Delivered in November 1957 to A. Beatty, it was initially registered as ‘UXF 100’. The ‘A. Beatty’ in question is understood to have been Sir Alfred Chester Beatty; an American-British mining magnate who moved to London from New York City in 1911. Known as the ‘The King of Copper’, his donations were pivotal to the establishment and survival of what is now The Institute of Cancer Research. Little else is known about the four-seater’s early history until 1990 when the previous owner entrusted it to A&B Price for restoration and conversion to Drophead Coupé specification. Reportedly using an original Design Number 700 Drophead Coupe as a template, A&B Price carried out a limited number of such transformations around this time which were noted for their quality and accuracy. A taller gentleman, the last keeper requested that the rear hood line be raised slightly so that he could ride comfortably in the back should someone else take the wheel. Part of the vendor’s imposing Bentley Continental collection since 2008, when he purchased it from marque specialist Frank Dale & Stepsons, ‘161 XUL’ has been lavishly maintained and improved to the tune of over £200,000. Acknowledged specialist Padgett Motor Engineers have thoroughly overhauled the original engine, not to mention attending to the automatic transmission and back axle. The hood has been re-profiled and renewed in Dark Green mohair, while the interior upholstery, boot and wood veneers have been refurbished (the associated SimTrim of Spalding bills totalling £50,000 plus). The cubbies to the driver and passenger doors house a seemingly unused picnic set, while the dashboard contains a digitalised Becker Mexico stereo. Performing notably well on a recent outing, the Bentley has lived up to its name making numerous trips to mainland Europe with the seller. Accumulating sundry stone chips as a result, it nonetheless remains highly presentable to our eyes. A rare coachbuilt Bentley S1 Continental in both its original and secondary guises, ‘161 XUL’ has been better maintained than many of its siblings. A singularly elegant motorcar, it is worthy of close inspection. For more information, please contact: Lucas Gomersall lucas.gomersall@handh.co.uk 07484 082430
Registration No: G111 RDM Chassis No: WAUZZZ8AZLA158710 MOT: June 2025Rare Audi 90 luxury Saloon in striking Pearlescent WhiteAir conditioning and electric sunroofPreviously stored by a collector for 8-9 yearsIn September 1986, Audi released a new Typ 89 Audi 80 for the 1987 model year on the European market and introduced it elsewhere within a year. It introduced a new aerodynamic look and a fully zinc-coated galvanised bodyshell. In 1987, the Audi 90 was reintroduced as an upmarket, more luxurious variant of the 80. To begin with it would again feature a choice of 10-valve inline five-cylinder petrol engines, and could be specified with or without quattro. The 90 differs visually from the 80 by a full width tail-light panel; headlights that featured additional high-beam lights and a slightly different front grille. Indicator lamps were moved from beside the headlights to the bumpers next to the fog lights, which were standard fitment on the 90. Brightwork surrounds for the windows, tops of the bumpers and side rubbing strips were also standard. Interiors were upgraded over the 80 featuring velour seat coverings and a slightly more generous level of equipment. The vendor, a Saab specialist garage, took this rare 5-cylinder 4 door luxury Saloon as a part exchange. Finished in Pearl White with Grey velour, this Audi 90 more recently belonged to a car collecting friend of the vendor. His ownership was over a 5-year period, however, it was stored for 8-9 years in a heated garage at TK Autos, Kendal. The Audi’s condition is said to be ‘exceptional’ for its age, with a few marks that could be remedied. The lack of corrosion is likely due to a galvanised body from Audi on these special iterations of the Audi 80 model series. The Audi 90’s specification was beyond that of many marques in 1990. There’s a Blaupunkt Montreux radio cassette player, electric windows on all four doors, an electric sunroof and air conditioning; unusual to find both specified. The alloy wheels are 15-inch and colour-coded, similar to the original 14-inch alloys also offered with the car. There are some accompanying brochures and an untested Blaupunkt Melbourne radio cassette player. The '90' passed its last MOT with a couple of advisories and subsequently a new track rod end was fitted. There are 3 former keepers recorded on the V5C logbook, a book pack is present and shows stamps up to c.40k in the service booklet (now displaying c.80,060). Registration No: AJ02 ZKD Chassis No: WP0ZZZ99ZZ56444587 MOT: July 2025Desirable 'Gen 2' 3.6 litre exampleOnly four former keepers from newFull service history from new documented in extensive history file with full original book packRecently subject to much recent expenditure for a full borescope check and IMS Bearing change, plus a new steering rack, discs and pads, rear shocks and OEM exhaustsSpecified in the incredibly rare Porsche Exclusive colours of Cobalt Blue over a Light Blue InteriorAsked to nominate his favourite generation of Porsche 911 during its 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2013, racing driver and journalist Tiff Needell chose the 996 commenting: "This was the model that brought the 911 into the modern world. We finally got rid of the VW pedals and had a chassis that handled in a much more progressive and controllable manner. Not a convert before, completely converted after!" Traditionalists may have decried the 996's water-cooled engine and shared Boxster componentry, however, the newcomer's use of a brand-new platform (the 911's first since 1963) meant that it was notably lighter, stiffer, and more aerodynamic than its 993 predecessor. Equipped with four-valve cylinder heads, the 996's 3.4-litre engine developed 296bhp and 258lbft (outputs comparable to those of the 993 Carrera RS's 3.8-litre unit). Allied to either a six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic transmission, the free-revving flat-six enabled the 2+2-seater to sprint to 60mph in 5 seconds and onto 174mph. More ergonomically laid out and spacious than that of any previous 911, the 996's cabin also boasted a far better HVAC system. Model year 2002 saw a major upgrade to Carrera 2 and 4 with a 'facelift' to include the Turbo's 'teardrop' headlamps, glovebox, sports steering wheel, and the larger 320bhp 3.6-litre engine (featuring Variocam Plus variable valve timing and opening technology).First registered on the 11th July 2002, ‘AJ02 ZKD’ was specified through the Porsche Exclusive programme in the rare colour scheme of Cobalt Blue over a Light Blue extended leather interior and was specified with such luxuries as heated ‘memory’ adjusting front seats, Tiptronic gearbox, Sat-Nav, air-conditioning and dark burr maple trim. Externally, the car came with a body-coloured matching hardtop and rides upon 18” Porsche Sport Classic alloy wheels.Purchased by the vendor in 2014, there are four previous keepers recorded, with the previous owner having been the custodian since 2009. The history file records seven Porsche main dealer services and five Porsche specialist services, with the latest recorded in August 2021 at 118,222 miles. Furthermore, the car has been subject to much further work as recorded by several invoices within the history folder, including an IMS and RMS bearing change plus more recent works for new rear shock absorbers, reconditioned steering rack, new brake discs and pads, an oil service in 2023 and a new stainless-steel exhaust. The vendor now rates the 911 mechanically as in ‘very good to excellent’ fettle. The bodywork has also been equally well cherished, and the vendor also rates this as ‘very good for the age of the car’ and ‘feels all round to have covered far less than its currently indicated 124,000 miles’.A genuinely delightful soft-top Porsche, ‘AJ02 ZKD’ is offered to market as the vendor has in his own words ‘simply not been using the car to its full potential’. Representing excellent value compared with some of its newer 911 siblings and given its specification is arguably far more interesting. Registration No: PAZ 3150 Chassis No: 49159 MOT: October 20251 of just 152 UK-supplied, right-hand drive examplesJust 55,000 warranted miles and five former keepers from newLarge history file including the original book pack with stamped service book in the Ferrari walletSignificant documented maintenance and improvement expense with specialistsEntered from the ownership of a long-term Ferrari Owners' Club member and multiple Ferrari ownerIntroduced at the 1976 Paris Salon, the Ferrari 400 shared the same crisp Pininfarina styling and Type F101AL tubular steel chassis frame as its 365GT4 2+2 predecessor. Powered by an enlarged 4823cc 'quad-cam' V12 engine, the occasional four-seater featured all-round independent suspension (self-levelling to the rear), power-assisted recirculating ball steering, and four-wheel disc brakes. Notable as the first Maranello product for which automatic transmission could be specified; the 400 also boasted such luxuries as Connolly hide upholstery, electric windows and optional air conditioning. Arriving in mid-1979, the 400i enjoyed greater refinement, lower emissions, and better fuel economy thanks to its adoption of Bosch K-Jetronic fuel-injection. Credited with some 310bhp and 289lbft of torque, the newcomer was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds and 149mph. A true front-engined, rear-wheel drive V12 Ferrari from the old school, the 400i remained in production until 1985, by which time some 873 automatic variants had been sold (though, just 152 of these are thought to have been to right-hand drive UK specification).Chassis number ‘49159’ was supplied new by H. R. Owen of London, being first registered on the 27th of January 1984. Finished in Blue Sera paintwork with Magnolia leather interior upholstery, the 400i was specified new with Blue hide to the dashboard and centre console. Entering into previous ownership in 2007, most recently the 400i has been in the vendor's custodianship, who is a long-term Ferrari Owners' Club member and multiple Ferrari owner. Now having covered a warranted low mileage of just 55,000 miles from new, ‘PAZ 3150’ has had only five former keepers. A ‘matching numbers’ example, the Ferrari is offered with its original torch and jack as well as a large file that includes the original book pack presented in the Ferrari wallet, including the owner’s guide and the stamped service book displaying ten entries covering the 1980s and 1990s.Additionally, included in the file are a significant number of invoices dating right back to the 1980s for expenditure with Ferrari main agents and specialists with some of the notable work with the current and previous owner, including bodywork repairs and a full repaint by TDH Classics Ltd., attention to the rear suspension and a brake overhaul. Most recently serviced less than 500 miles ago, by Kent High Performance, the 400i is due to be supplied with a fresh MOT certificate in time for sale and has a current V5C document (expires 4th October 2024). Elegantly understated and seemingly great value, this Prancing Horse is a rare opportunity with only 152 UK-supplied, right-hand-drive examples of the 400i produced. Registration No: M510 LYV Chassis No: WDB1240322C177765 MOT: January 2025Rare Sportline exampleIn current family ownership since 2013 with circa 125,000 milesComprehensive service history and owned by a Mercedes Benz technicianDry stored for many years and a rare W124 Sportline Saloon exampleThe Sportline variant of the E320 had wider alloy wheels, quick ratio steering and a smaller steering wheel, possessed a lower 21mm ride height and a specially tuned suspension. The published top speed was an impressive 144mph. Considered by many fans of the marque as the final 'hewn-from-granite' Mercedes-Benz, the Sportline was a very enticing ownership proposition. Motor Sport magazine called it, “the best Coupé.”This rare Sportline iteration of the E320 was supplied from the factory Werk Sindelfingen, Germany, on 19th September 1994, then registered UK on the 4th October 1994 and has enjoyed a low ownership. The vendor, who is a well-known Mercedes-Benz specialist and a technician of over 20 years, inherited the car from his late father who had owned the car for the last 16 years. Sadly, he passed away in 2013 and the car was placed into dry storage, although it has been run regularly and has benefitted from a recent service, tyres and the air- conditioning has been re-gassed. We are informed this E320 Sportline drives extremely well and with everything operational, including the electric sunroof and the electric radio. The vendor has recalled how much his dad enjoyed meetings with fellow enthusiasts of the Mercedes-Benz Owner’s Club. Said to be 'Excellent' throughout, and complete with the service book, original book pack and spare keys, the E320 has also benefitted from recent large service and is offered with the V5C. It was propelled by derivatives of the ubiquitous Rover V8 engine ranging in size from 4.0 to 5.0-litres, mated to a five-speed Rover or Tremec manual gearbox. Suspension was independent all round by double wishbones and coil springs. Braking was by 10-inch ventilated discs at each corner. Upon test, Autocar discovered that the Griffith 4.3 was "faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo and Ferrari Testarossa up to 120mph". Recording 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and 0-100mph in 11.1 seconds, the magazine also praised the TVR's ergonomics adding that it was comfortable "even for the tallest (6ft 4in) of our testers".Supplied new by TVR main agents Hillside Motors of Surrey on the 19th March 1992 and finished in Mica Blue with Flint hide upholstery and a Black roof, the Griffith offered is powered by the arguably most usable Griffith engine option, the 4.3-litre. Also understood to be one of the rare and highly desirable big-valve examples, the vendor describes a thrilling power surge at 4,500rpm. In the vendor's ownership since 1998, the Griffith has had three former keepers and is now offered having 49,300 recorded miles. Used regularly throughout the vendor’s custodianship, including several trips to Le Mans, the TVR has been well maintained throughout this time. Pleasingly still boasting its original paintwork, chassis ‘11777’ is rated by the vendor as ‘very good to excellent’ regarding bodywork, electrical equipment, and interior trim, ‘excellent’ in engine and gearbox, and ‘good to very good’ regarding paintwork.Notable recent works while residing with the vendor have included a new hood in 2015 (c.£700); pre-emptively fitting new chassis outriggers as well as new fuel lines and battery relocation in 2018 (c.£3,200); new master cylinder, ball joints, an exhaust manifold gasket in 2020 (c.£2,500); new shock absorbers, bushes, and springs in 2021 (c.£1,800); new alternator and exhaust inner wing heat shields in 2023 (c.£1,500) with the improvements completed by TVR and classic car specialists. The accompanying history file includes the (rare to see) original combined owner’s handbook and service book in the TVR wallet, with the service book containing twelve stamps. Also included is a large collection of MOTs and invoices for improvements and servicing, as well as the in-depth guide ‘The TVR Griffith and Chimaera’ by Steve Heath.PLEASE NOTE: The registration number shown in the images is not included in the sale, with the correct registration being the original 'J907 XAJ'. Registration No: F21 NSX Chassis No: JHMNA12600T000564 MOT: March 2025Finished in Formula Red with Black upholstery, the same as the car owned by racing legend Ayrton SennaUnderstood to be 1 of just 500 UK-supplied examplesCherished registration number ‘F21 NSX’ included in saleOffered with owner's wallet, service book, and handbook plus a collection of invoicesThe NSX (New Sportscar eXperimental) was a major departure for Honda, which by 1984 was renowned for its well-engineered but generally quite staid road cars. Its origins lay in the HP-X (Honda Pininfarina eXperimental) concept of that year and wowed the performance car world when it debuted at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show. The intention was to match or better the performance of contemporaneous V8 Ferraris, coupled with superior reliability and lower cost. With styling inspired by the F-16 fighter jet, the paint process ran to 23 phases, and Ayrton Senna was involved in the vehicle's final development. It was the first mass-production car equipped with an all-aluminium body and was powered by an all-alloy V6 motor featuring Honda's patented VTEC engine control system and titanium connecting rods. The unit drove through a five-speed manual or four-speed sports automatic system.Make no mistake, this was a mould-breaking motorcar that even caused McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray to say: "When I drove an NSX, all existing benchmark cars vanished from my mind." The car was the first real Japanese 'supercar', proving itself and quickly establishing respect from its key competitors. However, this superiority was not translated into sales and, by the time production ceased in 2005, fewer than 20,000 had been sold making them relatively rare and much sought-after today.Manufactured in 1991, ‘F21 NSX’ is a highly desirable UK-supplied example having been supplied new via Shepperton Honda and first registered on the 16th May that year. Finished in the striking and iconic colour combination of Formula Red paintwork with Black leather interior upholstery, matching that of the NSX owned by racing legend Ayrton Senna that is so familiar from the well-known image of him washing it outside his Portuguese villa in 1992. The 3.0 V6 VTEC engine is allied to the four-speed automatic transmission and is offered for auction having covered some 93,600 miles from new. Covering the majority of its mileage in the first eleven years, surpassing 70,000 miles, the NSX has just three former keepers. While residing in current ownership, the NSX has been used regularly, attending numerous shows, and winning awards at several of them!Presenting very well, the NSX still features its supplying dealer sticker in the rear windscreen and the tool kit, as well as the original steering wheel and gear lever accompanying. Supplied with a history file that includes the book pack in the Honda wallet including the owner’s handbook and service book, a large collection of previous MOT certificates, numerous invoices for maintenance and servicing, original sales literature, current V5C document, and, most pleasingly, the original Shepperton Honda sales invoice and correspondence between the Shepperton Sales Director and the first owner. Benefitting from its most recent cambelt change in 2023 by Guildford Honda and a full service at the start of this year, this NSX is an excellent opportunity to acquire a scarce UK-supplied example, in a very popular colour scheme. Registration No: LB51 UMV Chassis No: WDB1704652F257076 MOT: May 2025A mere 23,000 miles from newLargest engine variant SLK with the 3.2-litre V6 engineDesirable Special Edition example and 1 of just 2 reputedly UK-supplied and finished in Prisma Green MetallicOffered with a history file including the original book pack with stamped service bookAt the start of the 1990s, after the introduction of their two-seat grand-tourer, the R129 SL, the launch of the Mazda MX-5 encouraged Mercedes-Benz set out to create a new compact roadster, slotted below the SL. By late 1991, under Bruno Sacco, the first design sketches were drawn, with scale models being built in the first half of 1992. Massively successful in its first year, worldwide sales hit 55,000, over double the entire nine-year production of 190 SLs and between 1996 and 2004, over 311,000 SLKs were sold. The roof design consists of a folding steel hardtop with both halves linked by a mechanism that is locked securely when the roof is closed. At the touch of a button on the centre console, a hydraulic system controls the fully automatic folding process in which the boot lid is also integrated. The SLK Special Edition launched in 2002 with just 2,000 examples worldwide, and only 500 are understood to have been supplied to the UK market. Notable for having all Nappa Black leather interiors, heated seats, gear lever chrome inlay with logo, different alloy wheels, and new paint finishes, the Special Edition offered was registered new in the United Kingdom on the 21st January 2002. Further desirable for being the largest engine SLK, fitted with the 3.2-litre V6 engine, ‘LB51 UMV’ is finished in Prisma Green Metallic paintwork, and is reputedly one of just 2 UK-supplied cars painted in this colour scheme.Understood from the vendor to be boasting all its original paintwork and panels, the SLK is entered from a small private collection of modern classic Mercedes-Benz cars and has covered just c.23,000 miles from new. It is accompanied by the original book pack that includes the owner’s handbook and stamped service book, as well as numerous previous MOTs and invoices, the original order form, PDI inspection report, and the V5C. Last serviced at 22,260 miles, the SLK received a new auxiliary belt and idler, new tyres and new front brake pads. Low mileage SLKs are rarely seen and this example also boasts being a Special Edition in a very rare colour! PLEASE NOTE: The registration number shown in the images is not included in the sale. Registration No: LO08 XYF Chassis No: ZFA31200000159214 MOT: August 2025Commissioned by Ferrari for their dealer networkNumber 120 of only 200 examples, of which 60 were right-hand driveSupplied with extensive service history including the original book packShowing only 58466 miles from newThe Fiat 500 Ferrari Dealer Edition is a very special and rare example of the incredibly cute and successful 'retro' city car. Originally ordered by Ferrari in 2008, to be used as a stylish courtesy vehicle by their approved service network, only 200 were built, with a numbered plaque fitted to each; of which only 60 were delivered to UK dealers in right-hand drive specification. Not to be confused with the later (and more common) Abarth 695 Tributo, the Dealer Edition was fitted with a 100bhp turbocharged 1.4 Litre four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. All were painted in the iconic Rosso Corsa with the obligatory Scuderia shields adorning the wings, with the inside fitted out with Nero Leather where bucket seats, aluminium sports pedals, automatic climate control and an electric sliding panoramic sunroof could be found for the full 'Maranello' effect. The Dealer Edition proved so popular that most were sold to some of the most important clients of the Italian brand and the little Red Fiats are now very hard to find on the market today.First registered on the 29th July 2008, to Stratstone Ferrari & Maserati of Manchester, 'LO08 XYF' was to be kept by the firm for only one year before being sold out of the business to Park Lane (UK) Ltd of Alton, Hants in 2009. It is apparent that the baby Fiat was serviced by Stratstone during their ownership and not recorded in the service book at the time, however, the first stamp in the book is from Park Lane at 23,571 miles. There are four further stamps on file from Park Lane at 30,604 miles, 33,217 miles, 38,113 miles and 43,490 miles upon sale. For reasons unknown, the latter two service events included two cambelt changes. Acquired by the vendor's brother at the end of 2018, it was used very sparingly and actually moved to Italy with them for some six months. It was during this period that he decided that it was not suitable for the mountain roads and so it was sold within the family to the vendor in 2020 at c.56,500 miles. It was serviced by PMW Ltd at 56,841 miles immediately after acquisition. The vendor, in his own words, isn't ‘a major car enthusiast’ and has only covered approximately 2,000 miles on short trips to the shops with his wife and has now decided that it is time for the car to go to a more appropriate home. It has deteriorated cosmetically somewhat; the vendor pointed out some dents, lacquer peel and the original alloy wheels being in need of refurbishment. However, he describes the mechanical condition as 'very good' and describes it as a 'dependable little car'. Now offered at No Reserve, this could be the most affordable route to legitimate Scuderia shield-wearing exotica out there! Registration No: T.B.A Chassis No: SCBGH23W3CC076501 MOT: January 2025Just 47,000 miles from newBreeze Brunel Special Edition, costing some £141,000 when newVery attractive colour scheme and nicely presented throughoutSupplied with a history file including original well-stamped service bookThe Bentley Continental GT was the first car released by Volkswagen AG after their acquisition of the company in 1998 and was unveiled at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show, followed by Le Mans, Goodwood Festival of Speed and the annual Bentley Drivers Club meeting at Silverstone. The car differed significantly from the previous Continental R and T models in terms of its concept; although much of the car is hand-assembled, this Bentley was made in significantly larger numbers than previously. As a result, the price at launch was substantially less than the Continental R, thus exposing the car to a much wider and new customer base as a more affordable car. The second generation continental GTC was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, followed by the 2012 Qatar International Motor Show. A Continental GTC is equipped with a 6.0 litre, twin-turbocharged W12 engine and produces 603bhp with an impressive top speed of 202mph.Supplied new by Bentley Kent from order number 300154, chassis number ‘076501’ was registered new in the United Kingdom on the 1st of March 2012. A rare Breeze Brunell Special Edition, the GTC also received the Driving Specification and Convenience Specification options when new, with these three costed options adding some £10,000 to the price alone, with the total price surpassing £141,000 new. Presented in the stunning colours of Breeze paintwork with Blue roof, with complementary interior upholstery of Breeze main hide with Brunel secondary hide, carpets, emblem stitching and steering column cowl, Tamo Ash wood veneers complete the interior presentation. Further provided with cost options of chromed matrix-style grille, deep pile overmats, first aid kit and warning triangle, massage seats and seat ventilation, neck warmer, and space-saving spare wheel, the GTC is offered now having covered just 47,000 miles from new.Entered from a private collection, the Bentley has benefitted from a new battery at the end of last year, an air conditioning service last year, and a full set of tyres some 4,000 miles ago. Most recently serviced at 42,412 miles by Bentley Cambridge, the GTC is accompanied by a history file that contains the original owner’s handbook, satnav DVD, and well-stamped service book which displays eleven stamps. Additionally included in the paperwork file are previous MOTs and a no advisory MOT until January, a collection of invoices, the full specification sheet, and a current V5C document. Only making way due to the planned arrival of a new example, this scarce limited edition variant that comes with a very striking colour combination, this GTC is not one to be overlooked.PLEASE NOTE: The registration number shown in the images is not included in the sale. Registration No: NNT 628W Chassis No: TPVDV8AT214510 MOT: September Genuine factory-built example LHD and therefore ideal for touring the ContinentFast, rare and fitted with a plethora of desirable upgradesRecently MOT inspection, with very low emissions recordedTR8 coupes based on the original Harris Mann TR7 design made from 1978 to 1980 are quite rare; it is estimated that only about 400 TR8 coupes ever existed - this number from records kept by members of the North America-based wedge club, the Triumph Wedge Owners Association. To the roughly 150 pre-production coupes mentioned above, another 250 or so coupes were produced, some sold in Canada as 1979 models but most ended up being held back and then finally sold in the US as 1980 models. In 1979, a long-anticipated Michelotti-refreshed TR7 convertible was introduced, and almost all subsequent production TR8s were convertibles. Total worldwide production, as best as can be determined throughout all the labour turmoil at the time, is only around 2750, give or take a "handful". (Enthusiast Richard Connew went through the records at British Motor Heritage Industry Trust and counted 2746.) Other estimates exist. The German version of Wikipedia claims 2722 and cites the TR Register-Austria as source; 2815 is the number quoted in an article from Classic & Sports Car, March 1986 and in William Kimberley's 1981 book as well. Both the TR7 and TR8 were made until October 1981 when production ceased. Very few genuine TR8s exist outside of the United States and Canada. In other countries the TR7 is often converted to a "TR7V8" with the same ubiquitous Buick / Rover 3.5 litre V8 powerplant used in original factory TR8s. In Australia a popular TR7V8 conversion is to use the 4416 cc version of this engine that had been developed for the Leyland P76.Supplied new in 1980 to Michigan, USA, ‘NNT 628W’ was reputedly used sparingly early in its life by its full-figured first owner that found it increasingly difficult to get in and out of!! It was purchased in 2005 by an Englishman, now living in France - an engineer by trade; he had spent years building a Cobra replica, but the French refused to register it, being rather adverse to anything that resembled a kit car... He made the decision to sell it and instead invest in the the best original ‘factory’ TR8 he could get his hands on. It was reputedly meticulously kept in his workshop alongside his collection of old motorbikes and he set about making every improvement recommended in Roger Williams book “How to improve your Triumph TR8”. The previous keeper states “We drove it from Limoges to Hertfordshire and it was flawless - it drives unbelievably well and was Ziebarted from new with zero corrosion now.” More recently purchased as a birthday present for the vendor’s wife (to use in Portugal), sadly the authorities there want over €30,000 to register it, hence it’s now available for sale! The following enhancements have been carried out to improve handling: Uprated front brakes using the big brake kit utilising Wilwood 4-pot alloy callipers, slightly larger diameter discs which are thicker and vented to improve the cooling of the brakes. In the process of fitting this braking kit, the vendor replaced the flexible hoses with stainless steel braided units to improve the pedal feel which previously they found to be a little spongy. The vendor opted for the Wilwood compensation unit which allows the setting of the front - rear brake balance to be modified by the driver. They uprated the front springs and replaced the suspension leg with a firmer unit imported from a recognised TR8 specialist in the USA. To balance this, the vendor also replaced the rear suspension with Spax adjustable units and similarly uprated springs - this provided a really improved stance and much better cornering and handling. At a later date, the vendor changed the old rubber suspension bushes which were showing their age with polyurethane units - this applies to the rear suspension legs and also the anti roll bar mountings front and back. The bottom ball joints were replaced at the same time and an ‘anti-dive’ kit was fitted to reduce the nose dive on heavy braking (seen as one of the best mod’s you can make to the car). A number of the original ancillaries have also been replaced which include: Electronic ignition and high performance leads, new Holley 390 four-barrel carburettor with performance manifold, extractor exhaust manifolds and stainless steel exhaust system, uprated alternator, High torque starter, 15” Minilite-style alloy wheels and roll bar. After purchasing the car, the vendor tasked specialists Robsport of Royston to make further improvements and sort anything that needed rectifying. These Robsport additions (approx £4000 in total), included a Coolex-made 56mm core aluminium radiator with twin fans and a specially designed shroud, various hose, bushes and mounts renewed, whilst the brakes/suspension were all thoroughly checked. The Holley carb diaphragm/seals/gaskets were renewed and the car MOT’d with a very low emissions result. Ready to use and enjoy, the only faults recorded are - the left hand seat has split on the seam (maybe a trimmer could repair this), plus there's a couple of rust bubbles on the front corner of the Right Hand door. The bonnet has a few small dents in it and the left hand quarter light needs repainting and there is a small scratch to LH rear wing. Registration No: AFC 49 Chassis No: 7472 MOT: ExemptUsed in 1940 to transport provisions for the war effortExtensive history file with period paperwork and photographsThe car has been featured 'The Morris Motor Car' bookUnused during the last 20 years and in need of recommissioningThe subject of an extensive restoration which was completed in the late 1990sJust 3 former private keepers and in the current ownership since 1964When William Morris founded Morris Motors in 1912, he wanted to create a British competitor to the Ford Model T and he subsequently reshaped Oxford's industrial landscape. The Morris Twenty-Five, a deluxe replacement for the Morris Isis, was launched on the 12th October 1932 at the London Motor Show with the larger 3485cc engine. It was replaced in July 1935 by a new Twenty-Five, the flagship of the Morris Big Six Series II range and given an overhead valve engine (as the Series III) in August 1938, along with the rest of the Morris range. This 1934 example was originally purchased by a lady in 1935 who, even with a chauffeur, elected to drive the car herself, mostly covering over 2000 miles in her ownership. She exchanged 'AFC 49' with Morris Motors Garage in Oxford and the second owner then purchased it in 1936. As with many suitable vehicles of the period, this Twenty-Five is said to have been used in 1940 to transport provisions for the war effort. Subsequently, the vendor purchased this example in late 1964 and conducted extensive research in the following years. In the history file, there are letters written to the previous owner, the motoring press and the Morris factory to attempt to establish the history of this rare Tourer. The subject of an extensive restoration, which was completed in the late 1990s, there are just three former private keepers recorded with the current ownership since 1964. Unused in the last 20 years, the Twenty-Five is in need of recommissioning.Offered with an extensive history file with period paperwork and photographs. ‘AFC 49’ is also accompanied by three books on Morris cars including The Morris Motor Car 1913-1983 by Harry Edwards, that features a photograph of the car; two original Morris Twenty-Five Operation Manuals - one of which is 'old stock' and very clean; a Price List of Spare Parts, dated 1933; a 1935 Morris Service Information book; a 1930s Spare Parts List and a 1930s General Service Information book. As only eight Tourer bodies were produced in 1933, it would be fair to say that this will likely be one of few Morris Twenty-Five Tourers currently in existence and therefore offers a rare opportunity to own an example of the marque. The Military Provost Staff Corps, formed in 1901, is one of the smallest Corps in the British Army. Its task is to provide the guards for military prisons. During the Korean War two prisons were established, one in Kure, Japan and one in Pusan. The latter was a joint Commonwealth unit run by Canadian, Australian and British Provost and known as the Canadian Provost Prison Unit. The aim of the prison was to “Turn bad soldiers into good soldiers” and in Korea was universally recognised as imposing a very harsh regime. In 1950 prisoners were required to dig their own prison cells 10ft x 10ft x 8 ft deep, which were covered by barbed wire. (Details of life in this unit are given in the book “Chinese Hordes and Human Waves” page 59, by B. A. H. Parritt). Before being accepted into the Corps Spalding would have already been qualified to be a sergeant, been interviewed by two Boards, including one by a Brigadier, and would have to attend a 13 week Induction Course. Korea Medals to the MPSC are very rare as only 15 members qualified.

The best one-volume aerial history of World War II, Richard Overy's classic work remains profound and highly original. Far from just an account of the various air battles, Professor Overy treats the air war as a complex and fascinating historical web, woven out of grand strategy, economic mobilization, the recruitment of science, and the nature of leadership and training. Analysing the achievements and failures of the aerial component of the war, he places it in perspective by explaining the role aviation played in the overall conflict. He points out that while the Axis powers tended to limit their use of air power to one major role, such as support of ground forces, the Allies exploited all aspects of aerial doctrine: air defence, strategic bombardment, air-naval cooperation, and ground support. He also demonstrates how aircraft ensured that the Second World War became a people's war and how success in the air war was, in a very real sense, a test of a nation's modernity. The air war was won and lost not only in the skies but also in the factories and the research institutes. Finally, the author dispels many popular myths and in particular reveals that although air power in the form of strategic bombing by itself did not deter-mine the war's final outcome, its use dramatically illustrated the complexities of managing modern war. Richard Overy's The Air War thus deepens our under-standing not only of World War II but of military history in general. Good condition. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Unique Rare WW2 Target Leipzig Book A Cooper Signed 56 RAF Bomber Veterans. Target Leipzig - The RAF's Disastrous Raid Of 19/20 February 1944 by Alan Cooper, hard back book with dust cover published 2009, both in very good condition. Seventy-nine heavy bombers failed to return from the catastrophic raid on the industrial city of Leipzig on the night of 19/29 February 1944. Some 420 aircrew were killed and a further 131 became prisoners of war. It was at that time by far the RAF's most costly raid of World War II. The author explains the concept of this third raid on Leipzig and describes the two previous ones in October and December 1943, both of which had been deemed successes. He looks at the third raid from every angle, including the defending forces and describes the daylight raid that followed on the 20th by the USAAF. The book includes appendices listing all RAF aircraft and crew on the raid, route maps and includes many photographs.
