An Edwardian era Royal Engineers officers mess jacket, matching trousers and waistcoat.Manufactured in scarlet wool with black facings.Brass Royal Engineers button with Edward VII cypher on each epaulette (rank badges missing).Bullion engineers flaming grenade badge on each collar.The jacket has label for Hawkes & Co of Piccadilly, and is named to a Major W.E.Harrison (1875-1937).William E Harrison was a Lt Col at the outbreak of WW1, and due to ill health did not serve overseas.He served in the North Midland Division, RE Territorial Force, in a training or recruitment capacity.He was mentioned twice in dispatches and later rewarded with an OBE for his war work.The trousers are of heavy black cotton with a red wool line to each leg.The waistcoat is of black wool with Edwardian era brass Royal Engineers buttons.Condition: some soiling and moth tracking to the wool in places.Plus, a vintage black dinner jacket and trousers (believed to have also been owned by Lt Col Harrison).Condition: a little dusty, with some mildew spotting.5 items.

Clive of India: attributed to Nathaniel Dance Holland, an unrecorded pencil sketch Portrait of Robert Baron Clive of Plessey (1725-1774), shown in the last year of his life wearing the order of the Bath. This drawing appears to be a preparatory study for Dance's large portait of Clive, a copy of which is held in the Bodleian Library where Clive is similarly shown wearing the Order of the Bath and wearing only a single epaulette on this right shoulder; on laid paper, framed and glazed. 11'' x 9''. This set features components relative to various armours he wore throughout the film, including the set he wore while commanding the Roman legions during the opening battle, the set he wore as he walked through the Roman encampment, and the set he wore while fighting Tigris of Gaul (Sven-Ole Thorsen) at the Colosseum.The lot comprises chest and back plates made of fibreglass covered in leather; a leather epaulette; and a leather cingulum militare. Adhered to the chest plate are mock-up emblems printed on paper, and both plates are lined with leather. The armour features a pair of leather straps on one side, and has "2" written on the interior. Displayed on a custom-built stand, the armour has been intentionally distressed to appear battle-worn, and some of the paper emblems have begun to peel away. Maximus wore epaulettes on both shoulders during the climactic duel against Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) in the Colosseum. The epaulette comprises five overlapping fibreglass strips, varying in lengths and forming a curved shape. Each strip is black with a silver-coloured outline and decorative rivet detailing, and is lined with black leather. Two metal loop fastenings are attached to the lining at each end of the longest strip. The epaulette is presented on a custom-made display. Lined with cream color silk, gold foil embossed crown and “W” at top, brown leather sweatband with gold bow tie at rear. Epaulettes of stiffened tongue and oval field covered in gold woven metallic, ornamented fabric with gilt, coiled fringe around the oval base. Centered on the oval were highly detailed, enameled, crossed Gross Admiral batons featuring fouled anchors and Prussian crowns, a silver eagle/anchor and gold Kaiser Wilhelm II monogram affixed over the top. Protective box of black fabric covering with a leather carry strap at top and two side straps with buckles for closure, lined in light-blue fabric with bottom oval ridge to secure hat storage, above the hat an inset tray designed for epaulette storage with cloth handle at top for removal. Among his many appointments, Kaiser Wilhelm II was the first Grossadmiral, a rank bestowed upon only five other men in the German Imperial Navy between 1901 and 1919.USA lot - more info here

Richards, Royal Air Force Voluntary Reserve 1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, very fine (4) £60-£80 --- Harry Dennis Richards served as Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve with service No. 1395098. He was commissioned Pilot Officer, on probation, on 19 March 1943, and was further promoted to be War Substantive Flying Officer on 19 September 1943, and to War Substantive Flight Lieutenant on 19 March 1945. Harry Dennis Richards married Maud Reynolds at Islington in January 1945. Sold with original R.A.F. medal riband entitlement slip named to 151667 F/O H. D. Richards, confirming entitlement to wear the ribands of the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star and Defence Medal signed by Group Captain D. Ross Shore, of Fighter Command, R.A.F. Bentwater; single Flying Officer’s uniform epaulette; two original officer portrait photographs in uniform and several smaller photographs in other ranks uniform wearing observer’s brevet half wings; another in civilian dress; R.A.F. group photograph with Airspeed Oxford training aircraft, in distressed condition; the lot accompanied by his wife’s Royal Air Force Service and Release book named to Leading Aircraft Woman M. Richards, No. 472257, who had served as a teleprinter operator and telephonist; her R.A.F. notebook; several other photographs and a related family ration book.

Berry, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who later served attached to the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in the post-War reconstruction period, and was later an employee of the British Broadcasting Corporation 1939-45 Star; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, with Air Council enclosure, nearly extremely fine (4) --- Raoul Geoffrey Berry was born in 1909. He enlisted at Uxbridge between September 1939 and June 1940, and served during the Second World War as Corporal (No. 90391) Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, being commissioned Pilot Officer (on probation) in the Administrative and Special Duties Branch, on 28 November 1941, but with seniority from 27 August 1941. He was later promoted to War Substantive Flying Officer with seniority from 1 October 1942. He remained in the R.A.F.V.R. Emergency Reserve until relinquishing his commission from the R.A.F.V.R. Emergency List, on 10 August 1954, retaining the rank of Flight Lieutenant. He was seconded for service with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (U.N.R.R.A.) in the post war re-construction period and seems to have been based in Warsaw and in Bremen. He later worked with the B.B.C. He died at King’s Lynn, Norfolk, on 26 January 2001. Sold with a faded luggage label named to ‘F/Lt R. G. Berry, Photo Correspondent, U.N.R.R.A.’; two scarce red felt U.N.R.R.A. white embroidered shoulder titles; two R.A.F. buff rank slides for a Flight Lieutenant; single R.A.F.V.R. Two Victorian General Officer’s Epaulettes. An epaulette, dating from the 1830s or 1840s, with flat gold-laced strap, square -ended and edged with “corded Enniskillingâ€, bearing a gilt button and embroidered crown. Burnished gilt metal crescent containing a crossed sword and baton. 3 in. gold bullions, velvet lining with three metal eyes for laces (one lace absent); and another, probably slightly later, epaulette, similar to the previous item but with a slightly wider crescent with domed centre, containing the embroidered badges of rank. Never fitted with a button. Two pairs of metal eyes to lining, each carrying an original red attachment lace. Lace and bullions slightly dull, otherwise GC. In relic early shaped cardboard box, with a General’s sword-knot. (2 items) The 1846 Dress Regulations specify the same badges of rank for Generals, Lieutenant-Generals and Major-Generals, rank being then shown in button spacing.
