A pre-WW2 M36 German Panzer ‘anti-tank’ Oberfeldwebel shoulder strap. With 3 aluminium NCO rank pips, silver ‘litzen’ and a Gothic style letter P to the centre. Pink piping to the edge,and a slip on button down strap to the reverse side. Notes: information supplied by the vendor states that the epaulette was brought back from Germany after WW2 by Sgt John Henry, Royal Engineers. Approximately 10.5cm x 5cm. Condition: very good. No holes or other kinds of damage, just normal signs of light service wear.
A fine WW2 era Deputy Lord Lieutenants’s tunic, hat and other accoutrements, as worn by Colonel Alan Cecil Tod O.B.E. T.D. To include: a scarlet woollen tunic with dark blue facings, silvered King’s crown buttons to the front, cuffs, and skirt, silver cord epaulettes with gold bullion Tudor rose motif (to indicate an English county Lieutenant), and matching trousers with red stripe to the legs. Accompanying the tunic is a black beaver skin bi-corn hat, with black velvet and silver cord detail, a silvered King’s crown button, and a detachable white and red feather plume. Also included are Col Tod’s High Sheriff’s beaver skin hat (dating from c.1939) with cut steel button and chain detail, plus, dark blue crushed velvet pantaloons with cut steel buttons, lace cravats, lace cuffs, 2 pairs of white leather gloves, cut steel High Sheriff’s shoe buckles, spurs, collar stiffeners, black fabric sword belt for a court sword, black stocks, and a painted storage trunk and painted hat tin. Notes: Captain Alan Cecil Tod served as part of the 4th West Lancashire Brigade, with his rank being noted as Captain Adjutant, and later Major. His medal entitlement was the 1915 Star, British War Medal, the Victory Medal with oak leaf, and the O.B.E which was issued in 1919. Major Tod later became a Colonel, and an entry appears in the London Gazette on January 30th 1939 stating that he was to become Deputy Lord Lieutenant. A further entry in the London Gazette from March 1939 states that he was to become Sheriff for the County Palatine of Lancaster. Colonel Tod also served in the Home Guard during WW2, and for his service he was granted the C.B.E in 1943. Condition: generally very good. The Deputy Lord Lieutenant’s tunic is in good order and appears to have had little use (the silvered buttons were still wrapped in tissue when we received the item). The buttons and silvered lace detail to the cuffs and skirt have tarnished with age, but are nevertheless intact. There is a very small area near the right epaulette where there is wear to the nap of the cloth (possible old moth tracking to the surface), but this is not a hole. Both beaver skin hats are in good condition, with both showing little use. The pantaloons and trousers also remain in very good clean condition. The lace accoutrements, buckles, spurs and other items show a little age from storage, but for the most part are in good condition. The storage trunk and hat tin show some corrosion to the lid, and the hat tin is dented to one side. Please note that not all items within the lot are shown in the images.

Liberty at the battle of Jutland and was decorated for ramming and sinking the UC-46 in February 1917 Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamel, with integral top riband bar; 1914-15 Star (Lt. Commr. P. W. S. King, R.N.); British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Lieut. Commr. P. W. S. King. R.N.); 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, with M.I.D. oak leaf; Russia, Empire, Order of St Anne, 3rd Class breast badge with swords, gold and enamels by Edouard, one sword blade lacking, mounted as worn, generally good very fine (9) £3,000-£4,000 --- Importation Duty This lot is subject to importation duty of 5% on the hammer price unless exported outside the UK --- --- D.S.O. London Gazette 23 March 1917. M.I.D. London Gazette 15 September 1916 (Jutland) and 4 October 1940. Order of St Anne, 3rd Class with swords London Gazette 5 June 1917. Conferred by the Russian Government for distinguished service rendered in the Battle of Jutland. Philip Wilfred Sidney King was born at Penge on 19 March 1881, and entered the training ship Britannia in May 1899, being appointed Midshipman in October 1900. He was promoted to Lieutenant in June 1906 and to Lieutenant-Commander in June 1914, whilst commanding H.M.S. Flying Fish. He took command of H.M.S. Liberty in October 1915, in which ship he fought at the battle of Jutland as part of Admiral Tyrwhitt’s Harwich Force, attached to the Battle Cruiser Fleet (Mentioned in Despatches). In the early hours of February 8th, 1917, H.M. Destroyer Liberty was patrolling in the Dover defile when, at just after 3 a.m., a large submarine was seen to break surface and lying almost at right angles to Liberty, slightly off the destroyer’s starboard bow but right in the centre of the moon’s rays. Straight for the conning-tower under the full moon the Liberty steered at full speed, firing one shot. Unfortunately this shot fell wide, and the flash from the gun blinded those on the bridge. Lieut.-Commander King therefore determined not to waste time but ram the German. Travelling at a speed of 24 knots, the destroyer hit the enemy a magnificent blow only two feet forward of the conning-tower. Despite the great speed and weight of the destroyer hitting a mere 420 German tons, the latter’s dull weight momentarily stopped the destroyer dead. Not put off by that, Lieut.-Commander King began dropping depth charges, which of course exploded to some purpose, and the fate of UC-46 was rapidly settled. It was discovered that the destroyer was beginning to leak quickly but it was later established beyond all doubt that she must have cut through the submarine to a depth of at least four feet. King was awarded the D.S.O. for his neat performance. King was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 17 July 1930, with the rank of Captain. During the Second World War, he was appointed Deputy Sea Transport Officer at Falmouth and was mentioned in despatches in October 1940 ‘for good services over a period.’ Sold with original D.S.O. Warrant, two M.I.D. Certificates, dated 15th September 1916 and 4 October 1940, three photographs and a Lt-Cmdrs epaulette; together with copies of his service record, confirmation of the Russian Award from Admiralty records, and the official action reports for the sinking of the UC-46 (Oberlt. Fritz Moecke) which include a photograph of the considerable damage caused to the hull of H.M.S. Liberty.

Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Officers Full Dress Bicorn Cap and Epaulette Set, fine example of a Edwardian / George V period Royal Navl officers full dress bicorn cap of beaver skin with black embroidered cloth edging, large ribbon bow and bullion twist cord decoration. Interior with white leather sweatband and white satin cloth lining with gilt tooled Gieves tailors details to the crown. Cap is accompanied by a pair of RNVR officers full dress epaulettes with bullion embroidered oval badges and bullion kings crown. Also has the officers full dress waist belt with gilt metal officers waist belt clasp and leather sword slings. Set is housed in the original japanned storage tin with original owners name painted to the lid ‘T. Hay R.N’. Set is in excellent overall condition.

A vintage Coldstream Guard tunic and Kings Crown belt. Red wool body, with dark blue facings and anodised buttons. Embroidered epaulette and collar badges. Complete with white leather belt (quite heavy with ‘blanco’), fitted with a brass buckle, which is displaying the Kings Crown, which would make it older than the tunic. Together with an officer’s Army Air Corps mess tunic, named to ‘Goodchild’ and dated June 1990, plus a matched waistcoat and trousers. 3 items. Condition: moth tracking and moth holes to the Guards tunic, mostly to the reverse side. Accompanying belt is in good order, but the old blanco is a little powdery on the surface. The waistcoat, Army Air Corps mess tunic and trousers are in good order.
A scarce WW2 era Soviet Russian summer weight tanker jacket, with 2 enamel badges applied to the right breast. Olive drab green cotton, with 2 breast pockets and 5 buttons to the front. A further 2 buttons are each cuff (each button with a star, hammer and sickle motifs. Wool epaulette to each shoulder, with evidence of a badge having been mounted there. The badges pinned to the right breast include the very rare pre war era RKKA badge, and a WW2 era Tanker badge for excellence in combat.Both badges are screw back (one with replacement later fitting). Notes: information supplied by the vendor states that the jacket was purchased from Major Yuri Kumikov of The Amour Museum, Saritov, Russia. It’s believed to date from circa 1940/41. No apparent issue or maker marks to the jacket. Condition: Small hole to the fabric under one of the epaulettes (one epaulette is also partly detached. Some very minor spot soiling in places, but nothing that is detrimental. Both badges are in good condition, but one has a replacement screw back.

Kavallerist, aufgestüzter Epaulette, Ulmer Spatz als Daumenrast, 0,5 l; dazu passiges Glas des gleichen Ulanen mit fast identischer Emaille-Malerei, Kolbenform m. Standfuß, graviert 0,4 l, Goldrand; dazu ein Rundschreiben an den Ulanen Hezler vom Vorstand der Kavallerie-Kameradschaft Ulm/Donau, bzgl. eines Ulanen-Treffens, mit s/w-Fotografie, 1966. Guter Zustand, kaum Altersspuren.
A group of four clasps, comprising: a single row marquise shaped clasp set with alternating rows of old cut diamonds and calibré step cut rubies; a single row geometric diamond set clasp, four centre collets vacant, to surround of brilliant cut, triangular cut, single cut and epaulette cut diamonds; a single row clasp set with a row of four cabochon emeralds, to short section of emerald beads; and a ten row clasp (4) (VAT charged on hammer price)
