Virupa MahasiddhasTibet, 15. - 16. Jahrhundert. Bronze, vergoldet, H. 15 cm. Gew. 1220 g. Alterspatina / Altersspuren, leicht ber. An einer Stelle Bodenplatte leicht locker. Virupa, einer der vierundachtzig erleuchteten Großen Adepten (Mahasiddhas) und herausragender Meister sowohl der Chakrasamvara- als auch der Hevajra-Linie, wird in seiner beliebten Haltung dargestellt, wobei seine rechte Hand und sein Blick auf die Sonne gerichtet sind und seine linke Hand eine Schädelschale hält oder eine Schüssel mit Goldfarbe. Eine Blumengirlande hängt über seiner linken Schulter und eine Blumenkrone ziert seinen Kopf. Auch die Locken von Virupas Haar, Bart und Augenbrauen sind Standard in seiner Ikonographie. Er sitzt auf einem Antilopenfell auf einem Lotussockel, dessen hoher Rand unterhalb der Reihe abgerundeter Perlen liegt. Die Reihe länglicher Lotusblütenblätter ist ein gemeinsames Merkmal der nepalesischen Tradition. In Tibet ist Virupa besonders wichtig für den Sakya-Orden, der traditionell Newari-Kunsthandwerkern die Schirmherrschaft bot.
