TWO MOUNTED QAJAR NOMINAL SEALS WITH WOMAN'S NAME PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE GLYPTOLOGY COLLECTOR Qajar Iran, one dated 1292 AH (1875 AD)Each of oval shape, table-cut, made of red carnelian, set in a low-grade silver mount, both central fields inscribed with a single line of elegant cursive Persian nasta'liq script reading the owner's name Masumeh, a maiden's name, set against a dense ground of scrolling rosette sprays, one of the two seals dated 1292 AH (1875 AD).20.27mm x 16.48mm and 21.86mm high with the mount12.35mm x 9.15mm and 12.98mm high with the mount Bearing the same name, floral decorative motifs, and calligraphic style, these two seals are likely to have belonged to the same owner. Nominal seals inscribed with women's names are incredibly rare to see and scarce to find, given also that fewer of them were produced compared to the ones owned by men. It is reasonable to suggest that these seals would have probably once belonged to a well-off, high-class Qajar maiden, who would have used them to stamp documents and to mark her properties. 20.27mm x 16.48mm the largest Qty: 2

Registration No: LO08 XYF Chassis No: ZFA31200000159214 MOT: August 2025Commissioned by Ferrari for their dealer networkNumber 120 of only 200 examples, of which 60 were right-hand driveSupplied with extensive service history including the original book packShowing only 58466 miles from newThe Fiat 500 Ferrari Dealer Edition is a very special and rare example of the incredibly cute and successful 'retro' city car. Originally ordered by Ferrari in 2008, to be used as a stylish courtesy vehicle by their approved service network, only 200 were built, with a numbered plaque fitted to each; of which only 60 were delivered to UK dealers in right-hand drive specification. Not to be confused with the later (and more common) Abarth 695 Tributo, the Dealer Edition was fitted with a 100bhp turbocharged 1.4 Litre four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. All were painted in the iconic Rosso Corsa with the obligatory Scuderia shields adorning the wings, with the inside fitted out with Nero Leather where bucket seats, aluminium sports pedals, automatic climate control and an electric sliding panoramic sunroof could be found for the full 'Maranello' effect. The Dealer Edition proved so popular that most were sold to some of the most important clients of the Italian brand and the little Red Fiats are now very hard to find on the market today.First registered on the 29th July 2008, to Stratstone Ferrari & Maserati of Manchester, 'LO08 XYF' was to be kept by the firm for only one year before being sold out of the business to Park Lane (UK) Ltd of Alton, Hants in 2009. It is apparent that the baby Fiat was serviced by Stratstone during their ownership and not recorded in the service book at the time, however, the first stamp in the book is from Park Lane at 23,571 miles. There are four further stamps on file from Park Lane at 30,604 miles, 33,217 miles, 38,113 miles and 43,490 miles upon sale. For reasons unknown, the latter two service events included two cambelt changes. Acquired by the vendor's brother at the end of 2018, it was used very sparingly and actually moved to Italy with them for some six months. It was during this period that he decided that it was not suitable for the mountain roads and so it was sold within the family to the vendor in 2020 at c.56,500 miles. It was serviced by PMW Ltd at 56,841 miles immediately after acquisition. The vendor, in his own words, isn't ‘a major car enthusiast’ and has only covered approximately 2,000 miles on short trips to the shops with his wife and has now decided that it is time for the car to go to a more appropriate home. It has deteriorated cosmetically somewhat; the vendor pointed out some dents, lacquer peel and the original alloy wheels being in need of refurbishment. However, he describes the mechanical condition as 'very good' and describes it as a 'dependable little car'. Now offered at No Reserve, this could be the most affordable route to legitimate Scuderia shield-wearing exotica out there! Lot 1091

A rare early 3 air mandolin musical box by Francois Nicole, an unusual and high quality key wound Swiss musical box with a 26cms long cylinder, with rigid notation markings and fine teeth (approx 219), with named levers on one side of the box and winding hole, and with a small lever on the other side which releases the mechanism. With a retailers plaque inside for 'Ruegger, Place De Bel-Air, A Geneve' and also one to the lid, and with a number to the base (serial number, 5747), in a fruitwood case with brass recessed handles and with it's winding handle. Plays part of the overture of La Gazza Ladra by Rossini. Case 40cms across *According to Roy Ison's research, it is believed that all early musical boxes with rigid notation lines on the cylinder were made by Francois Nicole. There are three known Nicole boxes with Ruegger plaques, with this being the fourth. The Serial Number #5747 dates the box to circa 1826/27, shortly before the time when François Nicole began to stamp his name on the combs. The grid markings, as on the cylinder of #5747, became referred to as “rigid notationâ€; it bespeaks an early movement by François Nicole, the only maker known to have used it; in such, the cylinder is scored with both circumferential & lateral lines to give a grid that helped the pinners judge where the pin pricks were to be made prior to drilling. Tooling improvements later obviated the need for such markings. My thanks to the Musical Box Society of Great Britain for their help in providing these details and confirming that this is made by Francois Nicole, This has passed through the family from a relation connected to the Luttrell family of Dunster Castle, they were believed to have travelled widely through Europe in the 19thc and it's possible it was acquired at that time. *To listen to the music box playing, please contact Lawrences and we will send a link. *CR The mechanism is working and the teeth and tips seem fine generally and intact, the fly wheel is quite noisy sometimes as it moves around and needs some attention (due to lack of servicing), a little discolouration/rust spots to the comb in places which could do with a little clean, I don't think this has been serviced for some time and needs a good thorough service by a specialist.. Case, the escutcheon plate is loose inside and needs re fixing into place.

Signed by Stein in dark fountain pen ink to a light area at the head of the image, ´To you all, always, Gertrude Stein´, and dated Paris, France, October 1945 (?) in her hand. Also annotated in Van Vechten´s hand to the verso, ´Gertrude Stein, "Pigeons on the grass, alas!" New York´. Rare in this form. Some light silvering to the lower edges and a small tape stain to a dark area at the base of the image. One minor, small stain to the verso. About VGCarl Van Vechten (1880-1964) American writer and photographer, a patron of the Harlem Renaissance and the literary executor of Gertrude Stein. Pigeons on the grass, alas is a famous aria from Act III of the opera Four Saints in Three Acts (1928) which was composed by Virgil Thomson and set to a libretto by Stein from 1927. The opera was groundbreaking in form and content, and also for its all-black cast.

Registration - MV63WRFChassis No. - ZFFTJ65C000197651M.O.T. - March 2025Odometer - 5,400This is an exceptional opportunity for a Ferrari enthusiast or collector to acquire – at No Reserve - a particularly fine 2013 Ferrari California F1 with a Ferrari main dealer service history and less than 5,500 miles on the clock – a figure which is backed up by the service history and MOT records. Supplied new by Stratstone Ferrari in Wilmslow, Cheshire, the car has been regularly serviced by them throughout its life, as the stamped service book with the latest stamp at 4,821 miles shows. The vendor, who is only the second owner of this stunning car, describes all aspects of ‘MW63 WRF’, from the 4.3-litre, 490bhp V8 engine, seven-speed semi-automatic transmission and electrics (including the retractable metal roof) to the paintwork, bodywork and interior as ‘excellent’, and we can see nothing to dispute that claim. The California has covered fewer than 1,500 miles in the past three years. The enviable technological specification includes adaptive front light system, dual mode MagneRide suspension, electrochromic exterior and interior rear-view mirrors, front parking sensors and a tyre temperature and pressure monitoring system. The ‘immaculate’ interior of this 2+2 convertible boasts Ferrari’s optional carbon fibre driver zone and centre console trim, ‘Daytona’ black leather front seats with embroidered Cavallino emblem to the headrests, Giallo tachometer dial face and ‘Daytona’ Alcantra insert panels. Externally the 20” aluminium wheels feature Giallo Modena brake callipers, while the Rosso Corsa paintwork is enhanced with Scuderia Ferrari shields. This highly desirable machine comes with two keys, full Ferrari book pack and toolkit and an MOT to 16 March 2025. Ferraris with such a desirable provenance and warranted low mileage are very rare indeed – and ones offered at No Reserve are even harder to find, and eminently collectable as a result.Announced in 2008 at the Paris Motor Show, the California was viewed as a highly useable Ferrari – an accolade which underlines how easy the model is to live with. With a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 193mph, it was that most unexpected of beasts, with a circa £150,000-£200,000 price tag depending on factory options ticked. And buyers responded speedily – a three-year waiting list built up almost immediately. The naturally-aspirated California ushered in a number of ‘firsts’ – the first convertible with a retractable metal roof, Ferrari’s first front-engined V8-powered car and the first direct-injection power unit, and the first to sport a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Ferrari brought in the Limited Edition California 30 from 2012-2014. The name was derived from the fact that this new variant was 30hp more powerful and 30kg lighter than the original model. California 30 production ended in 2017 and was replaced by the California T.In summary:A beautifully presented example, with less than 5,500 warranted miles from newSupplied new and maintained by Stratstone Ferrari, WilmslowExceptional opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alikePlease, the private registration shown in the photographs is not included in the sale.

Taylor (Elizabeth) Angel, first edition, signed presentation inscription from the author "Jon & Veronica with love from Liz" on browned front free endpaper, fractional rubbing to extremities, otherwise sharp, 1957; At Mrs Lippincote's, first edition, "Royal Naval War Libraries" stamp on front free endpaper, otherwise internally clean, dust-jacket, light fraying to spine head, nick to upper edge lower panel, otherwise a remarkably sharp and bright copy, 1945, 8vo (2) *** A lovely pair of works by the celebrated novelist Elizabeth Taylor - one an association copy, the other a crisp and sharp beloved title, rare in such condition. The resurgence of mid-century female writers is embodied by the reclamation of the 'other' Elizabeth Taylor. Geoff Dyer's review “Was Elizabeth Taylor the Best British Novelist of the Postwar Era?” (New York Times, 2021) attests to the growing popularity of her post-war fiction in both collecting and reading alike. The first is inscribed to Veronica Walley, née Papworth (1913-1992), a columnist and fashion artist for the Sunday Express for 35 years, who married Jon Walley FRCS in 1953. The Walleys and Taylors were neighbours in Penn for a time, and became good friends whilst the Taylors were living in Penn Cottage, Buckinghamshire. In 1956, John and Elizabeth decided to move, and the Walleys sold them a property called Grove's Barn. Elizabeth wrote of the house that “it has a very small garden and a tiny courtyard with a fine view across Windsor Castle to the Surrey Hills”. The Taylors would become sometime guardian for the children while the Walleys were away, and a cartoon by Veronica for an invitation to a shared "Musical Evening” by the women evidences many happy years spent in the house. – See pp.343-344, The Other Elizabeth Taylor, Nicola Bauman.

Russian Literature.- Mandelshtam (Osip) Egipetskaya marka [The Egyptian Stamp], first edition, some light creasing, occasional spotting to lower margin, original wrappers designed by E. Belukha, spine ends lightly bumped, joints slightly rubbed, pencil inscription and 2 faded ink stamps to lower cover, upper wrapper lightly soiled, a few minor creases, otherwise very good, 8vo, Leningrad, Priboi, 1928.*** The rare first edition of Mandelshtam's short experimental autobiographical novel. Although Mandelshtam is known primarily as a poet, Egipetskaya marka stands out as his only major creative work written during the "poetic silence" of 1925 to 1930 during which time Mandelshtam was banned from publishing any original work in the Soviet Union. Vladimir Nabokov called the author "a wonderful poet, the greatest poet among those trying to survive under the Soviets."

Webber, John (1751/2-1793) [Views in the South Seas] London: J. Webber, No. 312 Oxford Street, 1788-92. 16 soft-ground etched plates with grey and sepia wash (sheet size 56.9 x 39cm, plate size 44.5 x 32.5cm), each signed ‘J. Webber’ in the plate, on wove paper watermarked J Whatman (without dates), most with tissue-guards, without text as issued [Beddie 1871; cf. Abbey Travel 595 & Beddie 1869-70 & 1872, Tooley 501]. Bound with an extensive set of the engraved plates from James Cook and James King, A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean, 1784. 65 in total (of 87), including folding general map (numbered 1), one other folding chart (36), Death of Cook plate (unnumbered), and plates numbered 4, 6-8, 10-11, 13-18, 20-23, 25-30, 31, 33, 35, 38-43, 45-52, 54, 56-58, 60-68, and 70-78, occasional spotting to margins, heavier and more widespread spotting to chart (36), Death of Cook plate and plate 78, plate 21 tissue-guard ripped, many tissue-guards adhering at points to verso of facing plate.Binding: contemporary red half morocco, spine lettered in gilt ('Prints to Cook & King's Voyage'), marbled sides, light wear to extremities Glasgow Philosophical Society (ink-stamp to verso of folding chart). The extremely rare true first edition of John Webber's spectacular suite of views from Cook's third and final voyage, apparently the only complete copy ever offered at auction, depicting scenes in New Zealand, Macao, Krakatoa, Kamchatka, Tahiti, Moorea, and Pulo Condore in what is now Vietnam.Webber was the official draughtsman on the voyage and issued these 16 views privately during the years leading up to his death. Whereas his drawings for Cook and King's Voyage to the Pacific Ocean, published in 1784, had been engraved by other artists, for Views in the South Seas he learnt the soft-ground etching process in order to make the plates himself. The work has consequently been identified as one of the first works in the now revered tradition of illustrated accounts of exotic lands by artists who were involved in every stage of the production process, exemplified by the Daniells' Oriental Scenery (1795-1814): these artists ‘saw the sights, drew the pictures and worked them up, then back in Europe carried out the processes of plate preparation, and supervised the printing and colouring. This elimination of all intermediaries gave these works immediacy and vastly improved accuracy' (Gerstle & Milner, eds., Recovering the Orient, 1994, pp. 118-19). In 1808 Webber's views were republished by Boydell with the addition of hand-colouring and text, and with Boydell's imprint on each plate.A copy of Webber's edition containing 15 of the 16 plates was offered at Christie's, 8 April 2009, and a set of 12 loose plates appeared at Sotheby's in 1960. The Abbey collection contained a copy of Boydell's edition only. Beddie's Bibliography of Captain James Cook (2nd ed., 1970) describes under catalogue number 1870 a copy containing ‘16 hand-coloured plates bound together … [showing] the same views as in the Boydell edition … arranged in a different order’.The views, here bound in a slightly different order from that of Boydell's edition, comprise:The Narta, or Sledge for Burdens in Kamtchatka. A Sailing Canoe of Otahaite. View in Queen Charlottes Sound, New Zealand. Waheiadooa, Chief of Oheitepeha, lying in State. A View in Oheitepeha Bay, in the Island of Otaheite. Boats of the Friendly Islands. View of the Harbour of Taloo, in the Island of Eimeo. A Toopapaoo of a Chief, with a Priest making his offering to the Morai, in Huoheine. The Resolution beating through the Ice, with the Discovery in the most eminent danger in the distance. Balagans or Summer Habitations, with the method of Drying Fish at St Peter & St Paul, Kamtschatka. A View in the Island of Pulo Condore. A View in the Island of Cracatoa. View in Macao. View in Macao, including the Residence of Camoens. The Plantain Tree, in the Island of Cracatoa. The Fan Palm, in the Island of Cracatoa.
