Ca. 800 - 500 BC. A convex chalcedony seal with an oval face and a domed back. The design on the front, shows a lunar crescent on a pillar, in the middle of two simplified Egyptian ankh-symbols. Accompanied by a signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert. Size: 17mm x 23mm; Weight: 10.2g Provenance: Property of a London gallery; formerly with a Mayfair Art dealer S.A.; Ex. 1990s London collections, studied and catalogued by professor Lambert in the early 90s (with original note, signed by him). Previously in an old British collection formed since the 1960s.
Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC.A red jasper amulet of the goddess Isis in an upright posture. The figure is depicted wearing a tripartite wig with defined lappets resting on her shoulders. The facial features are clearly outlined, including large eyes, a broad nose, and a small mouth. The body is slender, with the arms held close to the sides and the hands clenched into fists. The torso displays a subtle indication of the figure’s anatomy, including the waistline and hips. The lower half features a straight, columnar skirt extending to the base. The feet are distinctly defined, positioned side-by-side on an integrated rectangular plinth. Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC.A fragmentary faience amulet depicting the goddess Isis. She is shown standing with her arms positioned along the sides of her body, her gaze directed forward. The figure features prominently protruding breasts and a naked abdomen. She wears a tripartite wig and a hieroglyphic headdress representing the throne of Egypt. A vertical pillar is present at the back, serving as support for the amulet. Isis, is one of the most important deities of the Egyptian pantheon. She is typically depicted as a woman wearing a throne-shaped headdress, symbolizing her role as a queen and mother. Isis was revered for her magical prowess, wisdom, and her role as a protective mother. She was the wife of Osiris, the god of the afterlife, and mother of Horus, the falcon-headed god associated with kingship and the sky.For similar see: The Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, Inventory number 51.2560. RARE BLUE AND WHITE TRANSFER PRINTED DISH PRINTED WITH A SCENE ENTITLED 'KASKERAT', FROM 'THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE SERIES' EARLY 19TH CENTURY marked to the reverse ‘Kaserat’ within a simple architectural cartouche 32cm wide The print source for this scene is ‘A View of Kaskerat in Romelia’, by Luigi Mayer (1755-1803). A copy of the print is in the V&A; Museum, South Kensington, accession number SP.390. Fragments of a platter printed with the same design are in the collection of the NYC Archaeological Repository, object No.9. The Ottoman Empire series is by an unknown maker. With the single exception of ‘The Pillar of Absalom’ all views in the series are taken from Mayers ‘Views in the Ottoman Dominions’, his prints taken from original drawings by Sir R Ainslie, and published by R Bowyer of 80 Pall Mall, London, 1810. The series is also known as the Torch Border Series and the Incense Burner Series, after the distinctive incense burner in the floral scroll border. A Pair of 19th Century French Bronze and Ormolu Pillar Candlesticks of Empire Design, with reeded columns and each on three paw pattern feet and with conforming plinths, 12ins highThere is slight oxidisation to the bronze on the bronze parts and to the underside of the base. The gilt floral decoration to both plinths is also slightly cracked in places.
