C..A..CANTI MALLING, KENT: A George III wheel barometer, with rosewood and satinwood strung case, with gilt pineapple finial between swan neck pediment, the barometer with dry/damp gauge above a convex fronted thermometer, a circular timepiece with convex white enamel dial with Roman numerals, the barometer dial with elaborately engraved centre above a spirit level, 58" high.
HARRISON, FREDERIC (1831-1923), author, professor of law. 18 A.Ls.S., To Lucy Clifford, 50 pp., 8vo. 1895-1922, from Blackdown Cottage, Haslemere, Westbourne Terrace, Marloes Road and Royal Crescent, Bath. A long friendly series in which comments favourably on her work, describing A Long Duel as “a tour-de-force” (1902); praising Ethel’s poetry and agreeing with Lucy “that literature & art have sunk to a low level in England. That comes of 3 modern curses. 1. Photography 2 Electricity 3 Popular Education. I wish all three were gone.” (1909) He writes of his wife’s death and the humanist funeral service. With an A.L.S. from Austin Harrison, 1911 and 2 other items.
An early Victorian mahogany barometer, the engraved and silvered dial signed D Fagioli & Son 3 Gt Warner St Clerkenwell with bubble level, convex mirror inreeded ebonised slip, alcohol thermometer and hygrometer, in line inlaid and figured case with swan neck pediment, 96cm h Dominic Fagioli was working from this address from 1834-1840. In good condition, the tube secured by a blob of glue at the top but apparently undamaged and partially charged with mercury. One or two minor splits in the veneers but in overall very good condition without restoration

A TOTEM "MERSTONE". BR(S), dark green, half-flanged. The usual half-flange edge-chipping only, with a fine deep colour and gloss. From the ex Isle of Wight Central Railway station, junction from the line from Newport to Sandown and Ventnor Town. It opened as "Merstone Junction" in 1895 (replacing an earlier station on the other side of the level crossing), was renamed in 1911, and closed in 1956. THIS TOTEM HAS NEVER APPEARED FOR SALE BEFORE.
A North Eastern Railway station lamp case with its original blue lamp glass tablet "WARTHILL". This is the four sloping sides style that fitted into a wall lamp bracket. Four glazed panels (the rear one cracked), original type vessel; brass burner, and glass funnel. 29" tall. Repainted. Warthill station, on the York-Market Weighton line, opened as "Stockton" in 1847; was renamed "Stockton Forest" in 1867; "Stockton-on-Forest" in 1870; "Warthill" in 1872, and closed in 1959. Warthill was the former terminus of the Sand Hutton Light Railway, and the location of Britain's first lifting level crossing barriers on a passenger line.
