In 1969 Floris designed and produced three 'Chairpiece' works, two of which are of unknown whereabouts, if they still exist. This current lot is the only known example to have survived. In 1969 Floris wrote of 'Chairpiece': 'These platforms explore the same idea as the Super Ottoman, but are more directly related to the walls and floors of an interior. A seating shape simply graduates to a flat surface corresponding with the floor. This basic shape is manipulated in two more pieces: one where the seating shape rotates around the head and back rests, and one where it rotates aroud the foot end, thus becoming characteristic for a corner. By using more than one piece a seating landscape can be achieved.'
