Typed Letter Signed, 19 Glebe Place, 28th December 1934, to Des, working through correspondence following an American tour, 'if you ever come back here, I expect you will feel just as I did for a day or two last week - that England was just a little pocket-handkerchief of territory and all the houses mere dolls' houses, where only Lilliputians lived', talking of family life and the upbringing of children, Lady Victor Horsley and the Chelsea Babies' Club, saying that she has not seen Des's father for some time, but that she often sees Hilda Reid, mentioning Hilda Denny and K. Nuttall, and concluding, 'If I do come to New Zealand, I will certainly let you know and come and do some Feminist propaganda, which seems to be instinctive whenever I get into Anti-Feminist circles!', lot number sticker and printed label ('The Churchill Auction of Books and Pictures, New Zealand 1942') tipped to foot of letter, 2 pages, 4to (1)

*Milne (Alan Alexander, 1882-1956). Autograph letter signed from A.A. Milne's wife Daphne, 13 Mallord Street, Chelsea, 31st December, [1929?], to [Ivor] Barnard, saying how glad they are that he is coming to Christopher Robin's tea party, and how terribly good it would be 'if you would keep on your rat make up during tea It would be so thrilling for Christopher's little friends to see you close, 1 page with sentiment and signature overleaf, together with an Autograph letter signed by G. Harben [?the artist Guy Harben] p.p. A.A. Milne, Middlesex Hospital, n.d., to Barnard, on letterhead of Cotchford Farm, Hartfield, Sussex, thanking him for his flowers which 'touched me enormously', apologising for the delay in acknowledging them and admitting that it is because he is only just getting back to normal, 'and you are one of the first people I write to', 1 page, both 8vo. Christopher Robin, the Milnes' son, and central character of the Winnie the Pooh books was born in 1920. Ivor Barnard was the original Rat in "Toad of Toad Hall", Kenneth Grahame's dramatization of his "The Wind in the Willows". This first letter probably dates from 1929 when it was first staged. (2)

A Charles Vyse pottery figure of The Balloon Woman, the young Romany with rosy cheeks and green earrings, a pink scarf around her neck, dressed in a purple shawl and colourful striped full length dress with a yellow edged apron, holding an armful of brightly coloured balloons, on faceted base, 22cm h, painted monogram CHELSEA and dated 1922 . In fine condition with no damage or restoration; some marginal oxidisation of the purple enamel on the shawl nearest to the balloons mainly at the back but this is more likely to be a small production flaw and in any event is hardly noticeable and does not detract from the appearance. (See lot 67 for illustration).

A Charles Vyse pottery figure of The Tulip Woman, her little child carried in a purple blanket tied over her shoulder and wearing a plumed black hat, loose mauve shirt and vivid fringed green shawl over a spot-flowered dress, a large basket of brightly coloured flowers over her right arm, on circular base, 26cm h, painted monogram CHELSEA and dated 1922 . One or two of the tulips slightly grazed but this is very limited in extent and the figure is in unusually fine condition. No restoration

A Derby teacup and saucer, enamelled and gilt in Chelsea style with three mazarine blue and gilt cartouches of birds framed by swags, a gilt "harp' motif to the well of the saucer, having gilt borders and wishbone handle, saucer 14cm diam, Robert Bloor & Co, painted crown, crossed batons, D and gilder's numbers 11 or 13 in red, c1820. Minimal wear to the gilding on the top surface of the rim of the saucer, but in overall excellent condition and rare, no damage or restoration.

In fine condition; no damage or restoration

Old restoration to one of the loop handles; some typical minor chipping of the floral encrustation, some old discoloured restoration to the cover. (See lot 216 for illustration).
