Carroll (Lewis & the Rossetti family). A fine album of approx. eighty (mostly albumen print) photographs on fifty leaves, of the Rossetti family and friends, plus art works by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and other Pre?Raphaelite artists, etc., c. 1850s to 1900, including six photographs by Lewis Carroll (i.e. Charles L. Dodgson) seven images of William Rossetti's first fiancee Henrietta Rintoul from the 1850s, images of other Rintoul family members, Marie Stillman, two unidentified girls, images of art works photographed by William E. Gray and Naya [many of the latter of paintings from the first Venice Biennale of 1895 of which William Rossetti was chairman of the judging jury], the first twenty images (all art works) pasted in, the remaining images corner?mounted, most images on rectos with ink captions on facing page in William Rossetti's hand, William Rossetti's ownership signature, dated 1898, orig. half morocco with William Rossetti's printed label to upper cover (numbered 24: Gabriel, Family, Miscellaneous), spine damaged and covers near detached, folio Full contents description available. Rossetti by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, with head resting on a pillow [Carroll's image number 1147], 158 x 146 mm; 2) Drawing of Mrs. Morris in an armchair, full?length, by Dante Gabriel Rossetti [image number 1152], 154 x 130 mm; 3) Alphonse Legros, [image number 1128], 122 x 101 mm; 4) Maria Francesca Rossetti, with her mother Frances Mary Lavinia (nee Polidori) and brother Dante Gabriel playing chess [image number 1134, also with Christina Rossetti to left of image], 124 x 158 mm; 5) Christina, Dante Gabriel, Mrs. Frances Rossetti, William and Maria (splash?marked on photographic plate) [image number 1133?, slightly wider], 150 x 177 mm; 6) Frances Mary Lavinia Rossetti with her son William Michael (almost trimmed out) [image number 1132, also with Dante Gabriel and Christina], 94 x 48 mm. The first two photographs are pasted in, the remaining four corner?mounted. All were taken 6?8 October 1863 at Dante Gabriel Rossetti's home at 16 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, London. (1)
