Delightful, one owner from new, Series 1 that's been lightly used, well maintained and benefits from over £9,000's worth of recent expenditure. This smart Elise was supplied new by SGT Garages of Maidenhead on 07/01/1999 optioned with driving lights, radio fitting-kit, leather trim and a dealer-fit 'Janspeed' exhaust" for a total sum of £24,502.40Serviced regularly throughout its life with the first service being completed by SGT on 07/01/2000 (10,354)Fabulous service history (see main description). In February 2021 the car went to Bristol Classic Car Restorations for a full service and check over prior to sale (£5,000 +)Very recent paint refresh in its original 3-pack Pearlescent Yellow at a cost of over £4,000.(April 2021)Large history file with detailed invoices, MOTs, V5, Owner's Manuals, original Bill of Sale, etc. It's rare to find a one owner from new Elise and, with its detailed history and very recent expenditure of over £9,000, at this guide it seems remarkable valuePurity is a fragile and vulnerable thing and in August 1996, the revolutionary new Lotus Elise seemed to ooze purity from every extruded anodised aluminium and epoxy resin crevice, with nothing superfluous subtracting from the essence of this truly minimalist, focused little sports car. Although 'beautiful to behold' it certainly was, the time-honoured relationship between 'form and function' was clearly evident in the way it went and handled with its lightweight chassis-tub at 731kg failing to daunt the enthusiasm of the mid-mounted, 1.8-litre K-series engine, and its 118bhp was enough for a 0-60mph time in the low sixes allied to decent torque in the higher ratios. Clothed in two-piece 'clamshell' fibreglass bodywork, the featherweight two-door also featured all round double-wishbone, independent coil-over suspension, rack and pinion steering, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and a five-speed gearbox. Designer Julian Thomson and engineer Richard Rackham were keen to create a car with something of a motorcycle’s feel, and they undoubtedly succeeded, as is evident as much in the aluminium-and-rubber interior and neat little Stack instrument panel, as in the car's dynamic intimacy with the road, the wind, and the weather. The Elise was a reaction to the corpulent world of leather, luxury, and levers becoming increasingly evident in Lotus road cars, and was an attempt to recreate Colin Chapman’s early principles before he abandoned them in a move upmarket. The early cars were followed in 2002 by the Series 2 but the simpler, more demure Series 1 still defines the breed and this one owner, 1999 Pearlescent Yellow car is a perfect example. It's been completely refreshed very recently (April 2021) and our vendor, its only owner, has provided details of his life with the Lotus; The Elise was supplied new by SGT Garages of Maidenhead on 7 January 1999 with Driving lights, radio fitting kit, alloy window winders and leather trim as factory-fitted options plus a dealer fit "Janspeed" exhaust" for a total sum of £24,502.40.This one-owner car was used mostly in the summer and always garaged. The car was serviced regularly with the first service being completed by SGT on 7 January 2000 at a mileage of 10,354The next major service was conducted by Lakeside Engineering on 17/12/2001 with the mileage at 15,310.Lube/filter servicing was then conducted by the owner until 2008 when the car also had a new exhaust and ball joints fitted by Brooke Kensington Ltd with 34,572 on the odometer.Browns garage of Thame, replaced the cam belt and water pump and completed a full service on 24 July 2016 when the odometer was showing 38,424 miles.Between 2017 and 2019 Williams Automobiles, Lotus dealer, replaced the alternator belt and Yokohama Advan rear tyres (42,419 miles), repair starter motor (42,974 miles), and replaced alternator (46,906 miles). The December 2020 MOT at Browns of Thame required a new catalytic converter and identified some other advisory work - mileage was 54,154.In February 2021 the car went to Bristol Classic Car Restorations for a full service and check over prior to sale. Work completed at a cost of over £5,000 includes: Hood repair, drivers seat retrim and knee/kick panel repairNew water pumpRefurbished wheelsNew discs and padsNew adjustable shock absorbers all roundSuspension and ride height set-up.A factory-approved body shop for a comprehensive respray in 3-pack Pearlescent Yellow paint at a cost of over £4,000. Whilst the car has never been "pranged" the bodywork was tired with stone chip damage to the front clam-shell and door mirrors, and 2 minor grazes to the rear bodywork. In April 2021, Specialised Paintworks have resprayed both the front and rear clam-shells as well as the mirrors and parts of the doors at a cost of £4,000. I have invoices for all the above in a filed in the binder with other supporting documentation (MOTs etc.)The Elise is supplied with its Owner's Manual, the V5C, lots of invoices and an MOT valid until December, 2021.It's very seldom that we are presented with a car where its owner has had such a dedicated approach to servicing and maintenance and it's confidence inspiring. With over £9,000 worth of recent expenditure, this little Lotus seems very sensibly guided and we welcome any inspection. Y A Victorian brass inlaid rosewood two-day marine chronometerHennessy, Swansea, circa 1875The four pillar full-plate single chain fusee movement with spotted plates, Harrison's maintaining power and Earnshaw type spring detent escapement regulated by split bimetallic balance with circular timing weights and helical balance spring, the frontplate stamped with serial number 1375, the 4 inch circular silvered Roman numeral dial with gold spade steel hands, subsidiary seconds engraved with an anchor, power reserve dial, and inscribed HENNESSY, Maker to the Admiralty, SWANSEA, No. 1375 to centre, set in a lacquered brass bowl with screw-down bezel mounted within pivoted gimbals with locking screw, the rosewood three-tier case with brass shield nameplate engraved J.O.D. Maggie within double-line borders to top, over conforming front with push-button clasp for the top tier above circular inset ivory panel inscribed HENNESSY, 5 Wind St., SWANSEA to the middle tier and with inset brass key escutcheon over further disc engraved 1375 to the bottom tier, the sides with recessed brass carrying handles and conforming brass bound edges, 18cm (7ins) wide. Bernard Hennessey is recorded in Peate, Iowerth C. CLOCK AND WATCH MAKERS IN WALES as working from 5 Wind Street, Swansea 1841-75. He was a noted Nautical Instrument-maker, specialising in chronometers and marine barometers, including sympiesometers. Condition Report: Movement is in relatively clean working condition with no visible alteration or obvious replacements. There are a few spots of discolouration to the brass hence a gentle clean and service may be advisable. The dial has overall light patchy discolouration/tarnishing to the silvering otherwise appears to be in fine condition. The brass bowl and gimbal assembly appears all-original and has old dark bronze coloured lacquer finish which is now fairly heavily worn. The silvered canted insert to the glazed bezel also has some discolouration/degradation where it meets the glass. The case appears to be in sound original condition. The leading edge of the top has been repaired by inserting a new quarter-round profile along the full width; the adjacent (ie. outer) brass strings are consequently missing from the leading edge of the top and front. There is also a small loss of stringing to the left corner front of the top tier otherwise all brass inlay appears to be intact and with minimal lifting. Faults to the case are otherwise generally very much limited to minor shrinkage, bumps, scuffs and wear commensurate with age and use with the finish having and overall slightly faded appearance.Instrument retains its original tipsy winder but has no case key. Condition Report Disclaimer

Pretty as these early cars are, our vendor decided to go a little bit further in order for this car to look just as he wanted.  Having acquired the Lotus from Nick Mason's family, he decided later on to get marque specialists, Lanzante, to fully restore the Elise to his exacting standards with some subtle modifications. The seller informs us that in excess of £15,000 was spent on ensuring this particular Elise is one of the very best examples available to buy anywhere. Originally yellow, it has now been superbly finished in an amazing shade of Gunmetal Grey and this particular hue takes the car to another dimension. The front light mould is from a 1997 Elise GT1 Le Mans clam shell and it's worth mentioning that the car is fitted with a factory hardtop, Lotus Sport Koni dampers, an adjustable roll bar and still retains its original composite (MMC) brake discs. This little Lotus really needs to be seen to be believed so we encourage people to book a virtual viewing or to send a specialist to inspect on their behalf as soon as possible. Showing just over 27,000 miles and with a fresh MOT valid until 23rd February 2022, this amazing bespoke Elise has had more money spent on it recently than today's guide price, and combined with celebrity 'petrol-head' provenance, it represents a very attractive opportunity. SpecificationMake: LOTUSModel: ELISE S1Year: 1998Chassis Number: SCCGA111XWHC33582Transmission: ManualEngine Number: 18K4FJ31699845Make: Click here for more details and images

A 19th/early 20th century mahogany-cased and brass-bound marine chronometer 'J.G. FAY & CO. LTD.  90 High Street, Southampton'; the silvered dial signed, with Roman numerals and with auxiliary compensation dial at the 6 o'clock position, numbered 8169, up/down wind scale dial at the 12 o'clock position, with original key etc., the hinged mahogany lid with shield-shaped vacant cartouche, re-enforced brass corners and with the front labels of J. G. Fay & Co. Ltd again numbered 8169, Southampton, the top section of the hinged lid opening to reveal the chronometer under glass, the inside of the case with original paper label of F. Smith & Son, Marine Opticians, 23 Oxford Street, Southampton and detailing the ship 'Sapphire' (Capt. Elliot), original outer case key and generally in very good original untouched condition with no 'major' problems noted (the case 18cm square and 19cm high)We are unable to open the case to expose the movement on the Vendor's instructions, the provenance is good and the instrument is in original condition. We cannot say whether the clock is running for the 56 hours and we suggest shipping via a Fine Art shipper.   We are not sure how to open the chronometer and are not specialist horologists in order to confirm that this is a chain fusee movement.  We can only say that this has come from a very good military Estate clearance where the family’s military and naval history goes back over 200 years to the late 18th Century.  It has been in private family ownership for many years and appears to be in good original condition.
