James Poole (1804 - 1886), Zermatt And The Matterhorn, an extensive alpine scene with figures, signed, watercolour and bodycolour heightened with white, 25in x 36in, old label verso inscribed 'Zermatt With The Matterhorn by Mr James Poole from a sketch taken by him when he visited the valley in 1867, extract from his letter forwarding the picture 'It is I think the most difficult subject I ever painted in watercolours but I did my best and certainly did not spare time or trouble, April 20 1869'

Pyne, J.C. - Note and Sketch book, ca. 1878, Oblong 8o, contemporary calf, Pyne was an officer in the 54th Regiment and this work chronicles the regiment's trip over to India on H.M.S. Jumna and Pyne's subsequent observations of the Indian sub-continent, many of the sketches watercolour or pencil and ink, a series of mathematical notes at the rear as well as various descriptive notes interspersed throughout. Pyne, H.B. & J.C. - Old Sketches copied by J.C Pyne for H.B.P., Aden, Bound at the jail, May 1886, 4o, sketches of Parisian life and also a series of sketches on life and customs of late 1880s Brazil, including a pencil sketch of ships off Rio Janeiro harbour, two loose letters, one from H. Pyne to his mother dated Sunday 22nd December 1878 from an army depot in the India sub-continent and the second from J.C Pyne to his brother H.B. Pyne from Paris dated April 17th 1885, both letters with coloured illustrations.

John Ryan (1925-1992), THE ASGARD RETURNS, signed lower right; inscribed and signed again on reverse, oil on board, 28 by 38cm. 11 by 15in. Inscribed as follows: "This was the yacht designed by Colin Archer of Norway in the early nineteenth century and given to Erskine Childers by his prospective father-in-law, Dr. Osgood of Boston (Mass.) as a wedding present. It was involved in the landing of guns in Ireland in 1914. Returned to Howth, Co. Dublin having been purchased by the Irish Government in 1962. Now preserved in Kilmainham Museum Dublin. Childers wrote the classic The Riddle of the Sands and was executed in 1922 during the Irish Civil War. I painted this from a sketch I made at the time from a boat outside Howth Harbour.", Euro 1,200-1,500 (IR £900-£1,200 approx.)
