JANE SHORT (BRITISH 1954-) 'WINTER WALK ON THE DOWNS' CENTREPIECE, 2016 stamped maker's mark, 925 and hallmarked for London 2016, silver and enamel 7cm high, 26.5cm wide, 21cm deep (2 ¾in high, 10 ½in wide, 8 ¼in deep) Acquired directly from the maker by the current vendor in November 2016 at the Contemporary British Silversmiths Exhibition. Inspired by the colours, patterns, and textures of the landscape, Jane Short created this piece in response to a walk on the South Downs—where sticky, chalky ploughed fields met the brilliance of winter sunlight.‘At heart my main influence is that of exploration of the materials – silver and enamel, and using them to make pieces which stimulate the senses in some way…there is just something about the quality of colour that I respond to and just love’(Jane Short in Contemporary British Silver Designers: The Lion & Hamme Collections, 2022, p. 23)

Chinese famille rose octagonal ginger jar, decorated with two warriors on horseback in a Chinese landscape, six character mark to base, possibly Kangxi, with non-matching cover, H12cm; together with a famille rose dish with similar warrior decoration, unmarked, W29cmCondition Report:Dish with stapled repair to right hand side, small chips to rim. Ginger jar cover does not correspond.
Thomas Smythe (1825-1906) oil on panel - The Timber Drag in Snow Covered Landscape, 29.5cm x 54.5cm, in gilt frame.Provenance: Bonhams 6th December 2011, Reydon Hall, lot 276. Basically good overall condition and ready to hang. The panel has bowed along the lower edge but there are no visible cracks and the paint surface is stable throughout. Some possible touching up to the paint within the sky. The frame has been repainted gold at some stage. Apparently unsigned. A well presented picture and good subject.
19th century Chinese blue and white porcelain vase and cover, decorated with phoenixes on a scale ground, 41.5cm high, and a ginger jar painted with a landscape (2)The larger cover has some hairlines around the rim with a small associated chip. The cover has restoration. The other jar is OK.
George III longcase clock by Nathaniel Brown, Manchester with brass and silvered arched dial with revolving lunar and landscape to arch, subsidiary seconds and date in handsome oak case with swan neck pediment and blind fretwork with fluted brass spike finials, complete with two weights, pendulum and key. 241cm high (228cm without finials, 29cm deep)In good overall running condition. It does run for a while then stops probably as it needs levelling and setting up properly. It is currently not striking and will need some attention. The case is in good order apart from some missing blind fretwork to the pediment
