A GEORGE III CARVED GILTWOOD AND GESSO CIRCULAR CONVEX MIRROR BY WILLIAM GOULD & SON, CIRCA 1810 With a paper label to the reverse: 'William Gould & Son, No. 78 Grace Church Street, London, Manufacture Looking & Plate-Glass, Concave & Convex Mirrors, Wholesale and for Exportation' 68cm diameter, 78cm wide including girandole arms William Gould (1758-1812) and his son William Jr traded together as William Gould & Son (fl. 1781-1840). This partnership is first mentioned in directories in 1796. Condition Report: Mirror with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some splits to the frame. Various old chips of loss to the gesso foliate elements of the candle arms - see images. One detached piece present. The convex mirror plate with significant depletion as expected with age. Gilt surface appears original. It bears wear, losses, chips and cracks. Fixture to the back of the mirror where it possibly once had a cresting.
