AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY GERMAN SILVER SINGING BIRD BOX probably by Karl Griesbaum, crescent and halberd mark and 800, the hinged oval lid decorated with scrolling mask decoration, opening to reveal a feathered singing bird automaton, with a bird-shaped release, the casket form body cast with images of pairs of birds, masks and dolphins amongst scrollwork, supported by four outswept caryatid feet, the base  with an image of a bird amongst scrollwork, 10 x 6.5 x 5.5cm Condition Report:"The lid does not sit flush and is askew - the openwork grille to the right is also not flush to the rim. There is a strange film over some of the openwork (both sections around the bird and below) I am unsure what this is. It does not appear to affect performance. It could be some type of glue as you can pierce through it. The bird is mostly intact, a few sections are more sparse / eyes a bit fuzzy.
