Ian Wilkinson collection, Nottinghamshire, UK, formed since 1985.The plaque represents the central applique of a riphidion, an ecclesiastic fan worn by the Deacons during the Liturgical celebration of the Orthodox Church. The iconography refers to the Cherubim, the Angelic creatures with many wings and many eyes, ‘Singing the triumphal hymn, exclaiming, proclaiming, and saying' Holy, holy, holy. Fans are appointed to symbolise the invisible presence of the angels during significant liturgical acts. They are carried in the Great Entrance while the choir sings, ‘We who mystically represent the Cherubim and who sing the thrice-holy hymn to the life-creating Trinity, now lay aside all cares of this life, that we may receive the King of All, who comes invisibly escorted by the angelic host’. The altar servers take the place of angels, and they carry seraphic fans like the ancient Roman soldiers who carry the banner of their regiment.

An envelope signed by The Beatles Fan Club secretary Freda Kelly in blue ballpoint pen. Printed on the envelope are the words “A Piece of JOHN LENNON’s own personal shirt.” By Freda Kelly (Miss.) THE NATIONAL FAN CLUB SECRETARY. The envelope contains a piece of John’s Lennon shirt which was sent by Freda to a Beatles fan in the 1960s. The envelope measures 15cm x 9cm (5.9 inches x 3.5 inches). The piece of shirt measures 10.5cm x 12.5cm (5 inches x 4.25 inches). The condition is excellent.
A Beatles promotional card with facsimile Beatles signatures on the front. It has been signed by George Harrison’s mother, Louise Harrison, on the reverse. Louise has written ‘Best Wishes Louise Harrison Glad you enjoyed the Show’ on the back of the card. She has also attached a piece of George’s clothing under her signature with tape. The card was sent to a Beatles fan after she wrote to Louise in 1964. Provenance: accompanied by a letter from the original recipient that reads: ‘I wrote to her after I had been to the concert in the ABC Lothian Road Edinburgh on 29th April 1964, I was 12 years old 13 years in June, my older sister camped out over night to get tickets’. The promotional card measures 8.8cm x 13.8cm (3.5 inches x 5.5 inches). The condition is very good.
A clipped piece of a Beatles Fan Club card featuring a facsimile George Harrison signature on the front that was sent to the Brazilian Beatles fan Lizzie Bravo during her stay in London in the sixties. Lizzie arrived in London in February 1967 with a burning desire to meet The Beatles. She met and photographed John, Paul, George and Ringo on numerous occasions over the period 1967 – 1969 and built up a friendly relationship with the group and with John in particular. Lizzie, along with her friend Gayleen, was asked by Paul McCartney to sing backing vocals on The Beatles track ‘Across The Universe’. The card has been signed on the reverse by George Harrison’s mother Louise Harrison in blue ballpoint pen. Louise has written ‘Love To Lizzie From Louise’. Provenance: from the estate of Lizzie Bravo, backing singer on ‘Across The Universe’, author of From Rio To Abbey Road. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Lizzie’s daughter Marya Bravo. The piece of fan club card measures 8.75cm x 6.7cm (3.5 inches x 2.6 inches). The condition is very good plus.
A red and white sweatband that was worn by Freddie Mercury on stage during Queen’s 1985 leg of The Works tour. The tour spanned 8 cities across South America and Asia with Queen performing a total of 16 shows. Freddie can be seen wearing the sweatband at a number of shows including one of Queen’s performances at the Rock In Rio concerts where Queen performed on 11th and 18th January 1985. Provenance: accompanied by a copy of the Queen Fan Club magazine from summer 1988 which lists the sweatband as one of the auction lots that was donated by Freddie to sold at the Queen Fan Club convention, a Queen Fan Club letter which mentions the sweatband and two modern photographs of Freddie wearing it. The condition is very good.
An original sixties black and white snapshot photograph of John Lennon taken by a fan at John’s Weybridge home Kenwood in summer 1967. It has been signed on the front by John Lennon in blue ballpoint pen. The photograph was taken and the autograph was collected by the same avid Beatles fan who visited the group’s homes on a number of occasions in the late 1960s. The fan recalled that, ‘They were pretty relaxed about posing for photographs on their own front doorsteps, the first time one of The Beatles opened their door I nearly fainted’. The signature dates to summer 1967. The photograph measures 8.5cm x 9cm (3.25 inches x 3.5 inches). It has been trimmed very slightly on the right edge, signature is faint. The condition is very good.
