PADDINGTON 2 (2017) - Suitcase, Baguette and Sandwiches - A suitcase, baguette, and sandwiches from Paul King's comedy sequel Paddington 2. During the opening sequence, Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw) handed a wrapped marmalade sandwich to Mademoiselle Dubois (Marie-France Alvarez) as she gave him a lift on the back of her bike. Each of these realistic marmalade sandwiches is made from two pieces of hand-painted cast foam rubber with orange-coloured silicone spread between them and adhering them together. One has had a metal bolt inserted into it, though this does not protrude on either side. The baguette is also made of foam rubber. The suitcase opens via two clasps, and has a sticker adhered to the top which reads "Wanted on Voyage", with a Smith-Englefield badge on the front. It comes with a set of keys. The case features some minor wear from production use, and the sandwiches exhibit some dirt. 1 Medium size 20th century example but Nancy Dubois. Nancy is one of those versatile and extremely talented artists, but we have never seen anything like this example of hers before. This is what appears to be a 19th century natural horn button but hand carved in the late 20th century depicting an Egyptian Cobra snake, It is signed with Nancy's typical initials on the back. The button also has a silver engraved tongue and gold inset eyes. This is a true piece of craftsmanship. Nancy Dubois is in our opinion a fine artist and the button world is lucky to have her. Bureau plat de forme rectangulaire d'époque Transition, attribué à Philippe-Claude Montigny (1734-1800), en placage d'amarante marqueté de bois de rose à décor de frises de grecque, ornementation de bronze doré, vers 1770A late Louis XV ormolu-mounted amaranth and tulipwood banded bureau plat attributed to Philippe-Claude Montigny (1734-1800), circa 1770The rectangular green leather-lined top with ormolu border above a recessed panelled frieze with stylised Greek key motif and foliate rosettes, opening with two drawers and two leather-lined slides, above square tapering canted legs headed by ormolu swagged chutes and terminating in faceted sabots, unstamped, with two brands to the underside inscribed 'COLLECTION GEORGES HEINE', 130cm wide, 64.5cm deep, 76.5cm high (51in wide, 25in deep, 30in high). Footnotes:ProvenanceCollection Georges Heine.Ader-Picard, Palais Galliera, 23 March 1971, lot 113.Philippe-Claude Montigny, maître in 1766.This elegant bureau plat with its distinguished 'Etruscan' ornamentation and Greek key-inlaid friezes, epitomises the understated neoclassicism taste of the 1760s and 1770s. It was executed in the 'Goût Grec', a style which was flourishing when these were made in circa 1770. The earliest evidence of this specific style are the designs, which were produced as a collaborative project by the architect Louis-Joseph le Lorrain and Simon-Philippe Poirier, a contemporary marchand mercier, for the famous suite of furniture supplied around 1755 to the amateur Ange-Laurent Lalive de Jully's hotel particulier in Paris. This commission included many important pieces, but of particular note were the celebrated bureau plat and cartonnier which are now located at the Musée Condé, Chantilly. The present bureau plat belongs to a well known group of closely related writing desks historically recorded 'bureaux à la Greque' by the ébénistes, Philippe-Claude Montigny (1734-1800) and Jacques Dubois (1694-1763), sometimes stamped by one or other of these two figures, or even on occasion stamped by both. Most frequently these were, as with the above, veneered in amaranth combined with tulipwood. Such bureaux plats perfectly exemplify the highest quality output made as a result of the kind of strong working relationship that doubtless must have existed between these two renowned cabinet makers. A table of this type, stamped Montigny, which incorporates the distinctive Greek key pattern inlay, is illustrated in A. Pradere, Les Ebenistes Français de Louis XIV à la Revolution, 1989, fig.344, p.306. Among many related bureaux plats 'à la Greque' sold in the last few decades, one attributed to Montigny sold Bonhams New Bond Street, London, 12 July 2023, lot 62. Georges HeineGeorges Heine belonged to one of those wealthy European families who made their fortune in banking, and who throughout the 19th century were able to acquire masterpieces of Decorative Arts to furnish their vast residences, as did the Rothschild, David-Weill, Hottinguer, Camondo, Fould and Jacquemart-André. Georges Heine's father, Michel Heine was with his brother, the founder of the family Heine bank, born from the takeover of the Fould bank. Michel Heine married Amélie Miltenberger and they had three kids: Alice, future Duchess of Richelieu and subsequently Princess consort of Monaco, Paul-Henri and Georges. In 1877, Michel bought Alice and the Duke of Richelieu the Richelieu Estate. In 1890, Michel Heine was appointed Regent of the Banque de France while in 1914, his son Georges succeeded Edouard Aynard. It is in 1904 that Alice and her brother Georges Heine inherited their father's collection which furnished his hôtel particulier of Avenue Hoche in Paris. In 1928, Georges Heine died at the Domaine de Richelieu leaving his collection to his 9 years old son, Robert Heine born in 1919. To protect Robert's inheritance, a part of his collection was deposited on loan at the Palais de Compiègne and at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, with the idea that it would be safely kept until after his majority, and then later enjoyed by Robert Heine at his home on Avenue Marceau in Paris. It is finally on 23 March 1971 that the collection was to be sold by Ader-Picard at Palais Galliera in Paris. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: WW Lot is located in the Bonhams Warehouse and will only be available for collection from this location. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Offenstadt, Albert Dubois-Pillet, Catalogue raisonné, Paris, 2018, no. 85 (illustrated p. 104).Albert Dubois-Pillet's Reines-marguerites dans un pot sur le rebord d'une fenêtre, painted in August of 1885, is a remarkable example of the artist's pivotal influence on Pointillism, a groundbreaking movement that was then burgeoning in Paris. Exhibited in 1886 at the second Salon des Indépendants, the painting garnered early critical attention, notably from the renowned art critic Félix Fénéon. In his seminal article, 'Les Impressionistes', published in La Vogue in June of 1886, Fénéon used this work to highlight how Dubois-Pillet, as well as other artists such as Georges Seurat (1859-1891) and Paul Signac (1863-1935), were revolutionising the established Impressionist style. Rather than working spontaneously or subjectively as the Impressionists did, Fénéon emphasised how these artists were pioneering a new scientific approach, dividing highly keyed colours into their constituent parts with tiny dabs of paint upon canvas, allowing them to blend optically in the viewer's eye. This technical, structured approach to achieving vibrancy and luminosity would come to be known as Neo-Impressionism, a movement for which Fénéon's article would later become revered as a foundational text. The present work depicts vibrant pink and purple flowers arranged in a floral-patterned pot placed upon the windowsill of the artist's studio, framed by a typical Parisian rooftop in the background. Its tight composition and meticulous stippled treatment of the sky showcase Dubois-Pillet's precision and fascination with light and colour. Engaging with contemporary colour theories, notably those of Georges Seurat, he applied tiny dabs of colour to deconstruct light and achieve a unique form of radiance through optical blending. As a friend and contemporary of Seurat, Dubois-Pillet was involved in the same avant-garde circles that challenged the traditional and academic norms of painting. While he aligned with the Neo-Impressionist movement due to his scientific approach to painting, his works conveyed a more restrained and poetic sensibility to those of his counterparts. As Seurat explored the bustling metropolitan life of Paris, Dubois-Pillet focused on still-lifes and quiet interiors, emphasising introspection and the domestic sphere with a delicate and evocative sensibility. In addition to its significant early acclaim – demonstrating its presence at the heart of a transformative moment in modern art – the present work comes with an impeccable, unbroken provenance. Its first owner, Augustin Durastel de Rocheblave, acquired the work directly from the artist. Durastel de Rocheblave was a lawyer from Puy-en-Velay, the French commune that Dubois-Pillet was transferred to as an artillery captain in the French military, and which inspired many of his final paintings. Dubois-Pillet passed away in August 1890 due to an outbreak of smallpox in this region, after which his friend Paul Signac and the Société des Artistes Indépendants – of which Dubois-Pillet was a founding member – organised a memorial exhibition of his work. Extant paintings by the artist are exceedingly rare, due to a fire that destroyed the majority of his work, as well as his early death. The present work, therefore, remains an exceptional example of Dubois-Pillet's most pioneering work, and a testament to his contribution to the tectonic shifts in modern art that took place at the end of the nineteenth-century.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
