William Porthouse I, Penrith, (1706-1790) A MID 18TH-CENTURY OAK-CASED 30-HOUR LONGCASE CLOCK having a flat-topped hood with square door between turned columns, the trunk door with re-entrant top corners, on a plain base and bracket feet, the movement having a square brass dial, the silvered chapter ring, inscribed 'W.Porthouse, Penrith' with Roman hours and Arabic minutes, framing a matted centre with silvered ownership boss inscribed 'John Burtholm 1749', above a square date aperture within foliate scrollwork, the spandrels cast with mask amidst foliage, 208cm, (82in) high (sold with weight and pendulum).
