Robertson. Kelsey has earned a formidable reputation as one of Scotland's finest and most sought after contemporary artists. His numerous one man shows in London in particular enjoy huge success and his sell out exhibition at Thompson's Gallery (London) in 2004 was reported on BBC's "Breakfast" as "one of the biggest contemporary art exhibitions in London in recent years". The prestigious Thompson's Gallery described the event as "the most successful solo exhibition we have ever had". Robert has been a regular exhibitor for many years at The Royal Glasgow Institute, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Paisley Art Institute, The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and The Royal Scottish Academy. He has enjoyed success in New York , Budapest and Chicago and is widely exhibited throughout the UK. He has featured in many magazines including "Homes & Interiors" and "Scotland Magazine" and BBC News 24 has reported his achievements. The book "Robert Kelsey-the artist" was published in 2004. His style is distinctly "Contemporary Scottish Colourist" and although his work reveals his GSA training the strongest influences remain Peploe and Cadell. Robert writes : "I love the loneliness and serenity to be found at certain locations such as the beaches of the Outer Hebrides. I say "loneliness", which sounds like a bad thing, better to describe it as being at peace in serene places, where you can be alone with your thoughts, listen to the sea birds and the trickle of water". Robert's home and studio are in Paisley but his commercial success has allowed him to travel the world in search of the light and colour that are such strong features within his work. This broadening of horizons has been reflected in his "gallery prices" as his career and reputation continues to flourish. Kelsey collectors include : Sir Arnold Clark, The Duke of Bedford, Lord McFarlane of Bearsden, Cairn Energy PLC, Credit Lyonnais Bank, Taylor Woodrow, The Dunfermline Building Society, Highland Spring Water, Enterprise Oil, Paisley Art Gallery, Turnberry Hotel & Golf Club, Alliance & Leicester Building Society, Arisaig Partners (Asia) and The Fleming Collection.

* BET LOW RSW ARSA RGI DLitt (SCOTTISH 1924 - 2007), SANDY BAY pastel on paper, signed, titled versomounted, framed and under glass image size 25cm x 36cm, overall size 41cm x 50cm Handwritten artist label versoNote: Bet Low was a Scottish landscape and figurative painter whose career spanned the majority of the twentieth century. Her mystical and beguiling landscapes offer great insight into the career of this prolific artist. Born into impoverished conditions in Gourock, Low studied at the Glasgow School of Art during the Second World War before going on to study briefly under James Cowie at Hospitalfield House. Low had a great love of Scottish landscapes and they are a typical theme in her oeuvre - notably of Orkney where she spent numerous summers with her family in Hoy. By the 1960s her works moved further into abstraction, and she is best known for her works in this style. After her studies, Low co-founded the Clyde Group with J.D. Fergusson in 1942. With this group, Low co-organised Glasgow's first open air exhibition in 1956 at the Botanical Gardens. In 1963, she went on to open the New Charing Cross Gallery in Glasgow with John Taylor and Cyril Gerber, which received great critical acclaim for encouraging contemporary art in Scotland. Throughout her career she exhibited widely - including a retrospective of her work in 1985 at the Third Eye Centre (now the Centre for Contemporary Arts), and her work is held in numerous public and private collections.

His father, James Michie, was an architect and painter who had been an apprentice to Edwin Lutyens at the War Graves Commission, helping to lay out cemeteries in northern France after the First World War. His mother was the celebrated artist Anne Redpath OBE RSA. David’s early years were spent living in St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat where his father was private architect to American tycoon Charles Thompson. Later, the vibrant colour schemes of the Côte d’Azur would infuse his work. In 1934, David returned to Scotland with his family and settled in the Scottish Borders where David attended school in Hawick. In 1946, he enrolled at the Edinburgh College of Art but his time there was interrupted in 1947 with the introduction of National Service. He completed his service in the Signal Corps, qualifying as an instructor with the Royal Artillery Signals in 1949 and returned to Edinburgh College of Art where he was taught by William Gillies RSA. In 1953 he received a travelling scholarship to Italy, accompanied by his friend, the painter John Houston. They toured the Renaissance sites of Tuscany, and stayed in the hilltop towns of Anticoli Corrado and Orvieto in Umbria. John Houston RSA and his wife Elizabeth Blackadder RSA were to remain life-long friends. Colour was central to David’s painting. Working in both oils and watercolour, David’s subjects ranged from nature, garden compositions and his observance of people going about their everyday activities. His work was regularly inspired by his travels to far-flung places such as Australia, the USA and across Europe and is very effectively seen in his RSA Diploma painting On the Ramblas (1976) which invokes a colourful and busy Barcelona street scene. David taught widely, lecturing at James Clarke’s School in Edinburgh and Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen. He was a visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Art in Belgrade and the University of California. He returned to Edinburgh College of Art to teach painting during the 1960s and 1970s, and was Vice Principal there from 1974-77. Between 1982 and 1990 he was Head of the School of Drawing and Painting. * RUTH MULVIE (BRITISH b. 1979), BROWN BASKET oil on canvas, signed, titled versounframedoverall size 70cm x 100cm Note: Ruth Mulvie is a contemporary fine artist, known for her vivid palette and for the delightfully unexpected detail in her paintings. She graduated from the Glasgow School of Art and over the years comparisons have been made with Hockney. She cherishes that visceral connection that Kodachrome™ gives us with our past. That single moment frozen in time that one can look at forever. Old photographs are her initial inspiration for each new piece; a digital springboard atop which she dives into her latest delicious fantasy landscape. "Mulvie’s colour choices yell and fizz. They quicken the heartbeat. Sherbet yellow next to candy pink or lime green besides turquoise, they all elevate the mood. In her paintings we are invited to join the most wonderful party or shared experience. Mulvie’s realms surprise and delight. Hers are playful, glamorous worlds with pure glee for oxygen. And in each we are granted a day in happy valley. At the heart of Mulvie’s pieces is the palpable joyfulness in her response to colour. She is at her happiest when mixing and combining paint, waiting for the thrill of the perfect shade. For her, colour is emotion, colour is memory, colour is her favourite place to be. And we are all invited. There’s no place like it." Julie Tellouche

* MOIRA BEATY (SCOTTISH 1922 - 2015), DISTANT HILLS oil on board, signedframedimage size 25cm x 35cm, overall size 34cm x 44cmNote: Moira went to Glasgow School of Art in 1939 where her contemporaries included Joan Eardley and Margot Sandeman. These three young women were regarded by their lecturers as the brightest stars of their generation. After one year as a student she was recruited to Bletchley Park where she worked as a code breaker, one of Churchill's 'corkscrew thinkers'. She returned to GSA in 1947 to complete her studies. Moira's enduring talent was recognised again in 2014 at the age of 92 with a sell-out exhibition in Kirkcudbright. Moira Beaty was a resolute and determined woman who was an integral part of the famous group at Bletchley Park who did much to aid the Allies' victory in the Second World War. She worked in Hut 8 where Alan Turing and Peter Twinn set up the Naval Enigma Code. Beaty was responsible to Twinn - the first mathematician to be recruited to Bletchley. ''I discovered something,'' Beaty modestly remarked years later, ''a code within a code. I was immediately moved to within the codebreakers and became a cryptographer working on the German Secret Service codes.'' The Twinn team was involved in breaking the secretive Abwehr codes which were even more complicated than the ordinary military messages. The information this provided to the Allies in such major operations as the desert campaign, the D-Day landings and the sinking of the battleship Tirpitz proved vital to the war effort. Her first solo exhibition was at the Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh in 1979 and at the Collins Gallery in Glasgow. Her works were also seen at the Cadogan Contemporary Gallery in London and around Dumfries - notably at the Gracefield Arts Centre. In 2001 Gracefield held a major retrospective exhibition of both Moira and Stuart Beaty's works, entitled Full Circle. In 2014 Beaty officially opened the Kirkcudbright Summer Art Exhibition: Glasgow Girls 1920 - 1960, and held a solo exhibition in the town's Harbour Cottage Gallery. Both exhibitions were hugely popular and, at 92, Moira Beaty was still making a strong impression and gaining new collectors.
