Ca. 350 - 250 BC. A Chalcidian bronze helmet formed from two joined halves, the seam running vertically through the centre of the bowl and secured with a line of rivets. The seam is flanked on either side by shallow median ridges. The front of the bowl is embossed with a pair of large volutes in low relief, shaped to resemble ram’s horns, linked across the front and sides by shallow ribs. On either side of the bowl are raised images of stylised quadrupeds, possibly ibexes, each with an elongated body and prominent backward-curving horns. The eye openings are framed by an arching contour, extending into outwardly flared cheek guards with hinged cheekpieces, attached to the lower edge via a series of small rectangular hinges. A narrow, flaring neck guard extends from the back, curving slightly outward.
