U.S. Military Bayonet US M5A1 by Columbus Milpar & Mfg, Vietnam War Era This U.S. Military Bayonet, specifically the US M5A1 model, was manufactured by Columbus Milpar & Mfg from Columbus, Ohio. Featuring prominently is the inscription "U.S." and "MIL PAR COL" located under the cross guard. This model is historically significant as it was likely used during the Vietnam War. The bayonet has a textured handle designed for a firm grip and a metal cross guard. The dimensions are precise: an overall length of 11.25 inches and a blade length of 6.5 inches. FORREST GUMP (1994) - Forrest Gump's (Tom Hanks) Load-Carrying Equipment with Light-Up Flashlight - Forrest Gump's (Tom Hanks) load-carrying equipment with a light-up flashlight from Robert Zemeckis' Forrest Gump. Forrest wore his utility belt while he was deployed in the army stationed in Vietnam in Lieutenant Dan Taylor's (Gary Sinise) unit. Forrest later used his flashlight to investigate a tunnel his unit bombed. This lot consists of an army green nylon belt, marked "ISS042568L," with various army green canvas pouches marked "ISS014836L"; a black rubber knife; two army green plastic canteens, with one marked "ISS014835L" and the other loose from the belt; and an army green plastic and metal U.S. MX-991/U flashlight. This flashlight lights up with two 1.5v "D" batteries inserted into the canister and the metal switch on the side turned on, illuminating a red light. The flashlight is engraved on the underside "ISS042028L." PLATOON (1986) - Chris Taylor's (Charlie Sheen) Army Fatigues - Chris Taylor's (Charlie Sheen) army fatigues from Oliver Stone's Platoon. Taylor wore his costume as he was dispatched to Vietnam to join the 25th Infantry Division platoon where he soon discovered a rift between the men, especially between Staff Sergeant Robert Barnes (Tom Berenger) and Sergeant Elias Grodin (Willem Dafoe). This lot consists of an army green cotton and nylon strap wrap marked "Chris"; an army green cotton coat (Size small regular) labeled "CHRIS #3"; an army green cotton shirt; and army green cotton combat pants (Size small regular) marked "Chris #2." Curiosity/Macabre : Chinese Torture and Public Execution Photograph Postcards, pair showing Lingchi “death by a thousand cuts”A rare pair of particularly graphic antique photograph postcards of Chinese torture. The first image showing a woman bound in a public space, the second showing the body with the breasts cut off (2). Lingchi "slow slicing" or "death by a thousand cuts" was a form of torture and execution used in China, Vietnam and Korea. A knife was used to methodically remove portions of the body over an extended period of time, eventually resulting in death. Lingchi was reserved for crimes viewed as especially heinous, such as treason.

Alfredo Rostgaard (1943-2004) Screenprint Cancion Protesta Encuentro agusto 1967 Casa de las Americas cuba 1967 poster for a Protest Song "encounter" in the Casa de las Americas in Cuba. Famed and rarely seen Cuban silkscreen poster, CANCION PROTESTA (PROTEST SONG), originally created for a Vietnam War-era 1967 conference on protest music at the Havana-based cultural organization Casa de las Americas. This iconic poster, designed by Alfredo Rostgaard, was chosen to illustrate the cover of the 1970 book "The Art of Revolution," which introduced the world to Cuban revolutionary poster art. Rostgaard (1943-2004) once explained in an interview that he chose the image of a rose and two thorns and drop of blood for this poster because protest music is both beautiful and painful. 86 x 63cm (Asset No: HOA14)

Provenance: Direct from the artist, sculpture for Mary's 21st birthday Thence by descent to the present owner The sitter depicted in the present lot is Mary Vera Hepworth née Hopkin. She was born in Bangkok, Thailand on 20 September 1918. Her father was Harry 'Hoppy' Hopkin, then a journalist on the Straits Times, Singapore, and her mother was Nadia, a dancer, born in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia. Mary's grandfather, Engel, was a tailer in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia and was responsible for the clothes worn by the workers responsible for the construction of the Trans Siberian Railway. Many of his co-workers were circus people and taught Engel and his family a whole range of circus skills. Following the completion of the railway the group of worker's including Engel and his family decided to travel to Shanghai to become street entertainers. After touring with Colonel Phyllis and his circus across China, Vietnam and Laos the family decided to buy a hotel, King Chulalonghorn himself becoming a habitué, as did the Sultan of Johore. Nadia and her sisters danced for the King at his Palace and were paid in gold. So when Hoppy, Mary's father walked in to the hotel, one day, on the lookout for a new story and his gaze fell on a dancing Nadia, he was struck. They were married, and had two girls, Nadia and Mary. Eventually Mary joined the Straits Times, to edit the society page, under the pen name Vera Ardmore - Ardmore being the name of the flats in which they lived. She had already met Dora as Hoppy had introduced Dora to Nadia as he thought her Russian/Ukrainian background would be of interest to her, and they all became friends. Some years later Hoppy came to London to join the Daily Mail as foreign editor. Dora heard of it and proposed they take the vacant house beside her newly built studios in Kingston which they did and was how and why, for a 21 birthday present, Dora sculpted Mary's nude figure. Mary married Joseph Bulmer Hepworth on 27th June 1947, who was the grandson of Joseph Hepworth who founded the nationwide tailoring company Hepworths, whose trading name changed to NEXT in 1990. Recalled to active duty in 1952, he subsequently served a combat tour in Vietnam as a Forward Air Controller, before retiring in 1972 as a U. S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. CITATION enclosed First Lieutenant (Air Corps) James William Empey (ASN: 0-754606), United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against the enemy as a P-51 Fighter Pilot of the 5th Fighter Squadron, 52d Fighter Group, in action against the enemy in aerial combat in the European Theater of Operations His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army Air Forces.
