Provenance: Label for Christie's lot 364 and inventory marks on lid and vessel "HC90 S.429". The cargo of around 25,000 unbroken pieces of porcelain was recovered by Captain Michael Hatcher in 1983 and later sold at Christie's, Amsterdam.

Mai 1974.Sammlung der ersten 160 Nummern dieser legendären Zeitschrift der Gegenkultur, die zum führenden Magazin der Popmusik wurde. - Behandelt die frühe Periode der Underground-Bewegung, einschließlich Film, Politik, Protest, aktuelle Ereignisse und Popkultur. - Herausgegeben von Jann Wenner und ab 1970 photographiert von Annie Leibovitz. - Mit Beiträgen von Ralph Gleason, Joe Eszterhas, Charles Perry und Hunter S. Thompson. - Die Zeitschrift ist berühmt für ihre Interviews, u.a. mit Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Donovan, John Lennon, Keith Richard, Ravi Shankar, Jimi Hendrix, Woody Allen, William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Liza Minelli, Elton John, Tom Wolfe, Paul McCartney, Paul Getty, Paul Simon u.v.a. - Gleichzeitig war diese Publikation der erste Versuch eines Magazins, auf professionellem Niveau über die Rockmusikszene zu schreiben, sie enthält Berichte über das Monterey Pop, Woodstock, Altamont, Charles Manson, Vietnam, die Pentagon Papers, den Chicagoer Verschwörungsprozess, Jackson State, Kent State, People's Park, Yippies, Diggers, Black Panthers, Hells Angels und vieles mehr. Sie war auch für ihr innovatives Layout berühmt und diente als Beispiel, dem bald ähnliche Zeitschriften in den USA und in Europa folgten. - Titelbilder von Ralph Steadman und Gerry Gersten. - Enthalten sind einige der Westküstenbeilagen (San Francisco Flyeres), die in den 1970er Jahren etwa ein Dutzend Ausgaben umfassten. - Die legendäre erste Nummer, ist hier in der ursprünglichen ersten Ausgabe vorhanden. Allerdings ohne S. 5/6, diese wurden durch die entsprechenden Seiten des Nachdrucks von 1986 ersetzt (der Rest beiliegend), auf Seite 23 mit einem ausgeschnittenen Coupon, Mittelfalz etwas berieben. - Der Rest der Sammlung in Original-Ausgaben, im Allgemeinen in bemerkenswert gut erhaltenem und sauberem Zustand, mit gelegentlichen Postaufklebern und geringfügigen Läsuren, papierbedingt teils gebräunt, nur 2 Ausgaben (126/127) haben leichte Schäden auf der Titelseite. Die frühesten Ausgaben sind besonders sauber und wurden alle flach gelagert.
