A George III silver salverPaul Storr, London 1808 Circular form with gadroon rim interspersed with small anthemions, engraved arms to the centre belong to Alexander ERSKINE (1775-1855), on four shell scroll bracket feet, diameter 25.7cm, weight 26.5oz.Footnotes:The arms belong to Alexander ERSKINE (1775-1855), formerly of Bath and then Bryanston Square Middlesex who also had properties in Balthill Forfar, Longhance Aberdeenshire and Lima Jamaica, and his first wife Elizabeth JACKSON daughter of Robert JACKSON of Hampton Jamaica and earlier of Cumberland and Combhay Devon. They married in 1798 but had no issue. Alexander ERSKINE married for a second time in 1810 Elizabeth BRISSETT of Hampton Jamaica. Charles Reily and George Storer, England. Large sterling trophy, punch bowl or tureen, 1840. The sterling tureen is decorated with scrolling foliate motifs and flowers, and has wonderful horse handles. With a later inscription reading "L.E. Senor Spruille Braden y Senora Las amigos de Buanos Aires 19 Mayo - 21 Septiembre 1945." This equestrian themed trophy was given to the famous ambassador Spruille Braden while he served in Argentina in 1945. The style and quality is similar to the silversmith Paul Storr. A George III silver-gilt caster John Emes, London 1798, of vase outline, with an engraved cypher of Queen Charlotte in a laurel wreath and a foliate border to the rim, the domed screw-off lid with pierced detail and engraved floral detail, raised on a circular spreading foot with similar foliate borderDimensions:Height: 10.5cm, weight: 2.5ozNote: Note:Queen Charlotte (1744-1818), wife of King George III, was a known patron of the arts and also a collector of silver. Born Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1744, she married King George III in 1761 and moved to St James's Palace from her royal residence in northern Germany. Queen Charlotte gave birth to fifteen children during her marriage and accrued a large collection of art before passing away in 1818, aged 74.As an active collector, her cypher can be found on many of pieces that span her lifetime, from wick trimmers to ornate tea services. It is also revealing to note the chosen silversmiths of the day such as Robert Garrard, Paul Storr and John Emes, were particular favourites of hers.Recent examples at auction include large pair of silver entrée dishes, complete with Queen Charlotte's cypher, 1805, by Robert Garrard, sold for £5,625 at Chiswick Auctions on Wednesday 20th October 2021, lot 672.John Emes (1762-1810) began his career as an apprentice to William Woollet in 1796, striking up a partnership with silversmith Henry Chawner that same year. Emes registered his independent hallmark in London in 1798, marking the ending of his previous partnership with Chawner. Emes continued to work as a silversmith, painter, and engraver until his death in 1810. His wife, Rebecca Emes, and brother, William Emes, successfully continued the business, partnering with Edward Barnard, until Rebecca's death circa 1828. Emes specialised in tea and coffee services and was a favourite among aristocrats and royals.

Tipperary, who was later (in 1816) created Viscount Cahir and Earl of Glengall, all in the Irish Peerage. He was the son of James BUTLER (died 1788), 9th Baron Cahir, by Sarah NICHOLS and in 1793 married Emily JEFFERYES. After the Act of Union in 1801 he served in the English House of Lords as one of the 28 Irish representatives peers. The blazon:quarterly of four - 1,4: subquarterly - one: argent, a cross calvary gules thereon a representation of our Saviour or (borne in memory of the family having fought against the infidels). two: or a chief indented azure. three: gules, three covered cups or (Butler). four: ermine, a saltier gules (FitzGerald of Desmond). A bordure ermine. 2: per pale indented or and gules. 3: argent, an eagle with two heads displayed azure between three crosses flory gules. Supporters: Dexter - a falcon argent beaked and membered or. Soon after, on 6 March 1819, he was made, by Royal Charter, 1st Barao de Teixeira and was granted the right to bear arms. He was created 1st Conde de Póvoa on 3 July 1823, named after his estate in Póvoa de Santo Adrião, near Lisbon.These dishes are part of the extensive service for 180 persons, ordered by the Conde de Povoa from Paul Storr in 1822-23. This was exactly at the moment that Storr, who left Rundell, Bridge and Rundell in 1819, opened a retail shop in New Bond Street in partnership with John Mortimer. With half gadrooned decoration and acanthus leaf motif to handle, the top monogrammed EB, blue glass liner, hallmarked London 1833, silver weight 192g Condition Report: Overall in good order. The cover sits flush, the hinges are functioning well and there is no restoration is apparant. The hallmarks and makers marls are in good order and are clear to the underside, the PS mark is partially rubbed to the underside of the cover. Some minor and typical tarnishing. Liner in good order.
