MONROE MARILYN: (1926-1962) American actress & sex symbol. D.S., Marilyn Monroe, being a signed cheque, n.p. (New York?), 23rd December 1960. The partially printed cheque, completed in typescript, is drawn on the account of Marilyn Monroe Productions Inc. at the Colonial Trust Company and made payable to May Reis for the sum of $246.20. With a bank cancellation to the centre dated at New York, 27th December 1960, and a much lighter and barely noticeable cancellation beneath, only very minimally touching the first letter of Monroe´s signature. Endorsed and signed (´For deposit, May Reis´) by Reis to the verso. VGMay Reis (1904-1987) Private secretary to Marilyn Monroe from 1957, becoming a central figure in Monroe´s life as a friend, confidante and, as some biographers have observed, a maternal figure.
WARHOL ANDY: (1928-1987) American pop artist. Book signed, being a hardback edition of Warhol, first edition published by The Tate Gallery, London, 1971, as the exhibition catalogue for Warhol´s works on display at the gallery from 17th February to 28th March 1971, featuring a foreword by Norman Reid, an essay by Richard Morphet, and various illustrations (some in colour). Signed by Warhol with his name alone to the front cover of the colour dust jacket which features his famous 1964 image of Marilyn Monroe (an image of Elizabeth Taylor entitled Liz from 1963 appears on the back cover).
