MARILYN MONROE - "In Sweater, Close Up" Photograph by George Barris - A chromogenic print of Marilyn Monroe by photographer George Barris. Barris was famous for his work with Monroe, whom he photographed on the set of The Seven Year Itch, before producing a collection of photos which have come to be known as "The Last Shoot", as they were shot shortly before Monroe passed away. The photo was taken on Santa Monica beach and shows Monroe lying on the sand wrapped in a thick knit sweater. This framed print was produced and signed by Barris in 1987. "A.P." is handwritten in ink on the Barris copyright credit stamp on the reverse and was officially published by Marilyn Monroe/West Editions, Ltd. The photo has several tiny pinholes along the upper left edge. Dimensions (framed): 61 cm x 66 cm x 2.5 cm (24.5" x 26" x 1")Sold without copyright; see copyright notice in the Buyer's Guide.Estimate: £2,500 - 5,000 † Bidding for this lot will end on Thursday, November 14th. BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S (1961) - Italian Four-Foglio Poster - An exceptionally rare Italian Four-Foglio poster from the promotion of Blake Edwards' classic romantic comedy Breakfast At Tiffany's. Written by Truman Capote and starring Audrey Hepburn, this film set a very high bar for the rom-com genre while making Hepburn an international style icon with the help of that Givenchy dress and a pair of Manhattan sunglasses. Capote initially wanted Marilyn Monroe to play the starring role, but today it is difficult to imagine anyone other than Hepburn in the part. This poster features artwork by renowned Italian artist Ercole Brini. The last example of it being offered in auction was over a decade ago, and it is easy to see why it's so desirable among collectors. Brini's full-length portrait of Hepburn as Holly Golightly is as chic as the woman herself, and his printed signature can be found in the top left corner. The poster is conservation linen-backed, with restoration to the top-right border which encroaches slightly on the middle three letters of "Hepburn". There is a 4 cm tear on the top right border, slight fold-line wear, and some tiny areas of surface paper loss in places, all of which has been addressed to a high standard during the backing and restoration process, making the poster display to truly stunning effect. Dimensions (paper only): 140 cm x 198 cm (55" x 78")Estimate: £8,000 - 16,000 M Bidding for this lot will end on Thursday, November 14th. The auction will begin at 3:00 PM GMT and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. The Seven of Diamonds is the Millionaire card. It relates broadly to finances, money and material wealth alongside more unfixed connections with ideas of sacrifice, gossip, alienation. Responding to this by presenting myself as the diamond-loving Hollywood blonde: Marilyn Monroe. Aping the pearl photographs from the Last Sitting: taken by Bert Stern 6 weeks before her death. Edition size unspecified, presumed small. High-grade archival paper. Printed to the edge of the sheet. Fine, quality printing. Very good to fine condition; affixed to very thin and supple archival acid-free support sheet, not mount/board. Comment(s): One from the famous series of photographs taken by Beaton of Monroe at the height of both of their storied careers. Although associated with ‘Vogue’ through most of his career, Beaton’s 'Monroe' portfolio appeared in ‘Harper’s Bazaar’, for which he worked in the mid-1950s. It was while in New York for the rehearsals and premiere of ‘My Fair Lady’ that Beaton photographed Monroe. With a possibility that he would be the designer of Monroe’s dresses for ‘The Prince and The Showgirl’, Beaton arranged a photography sitting in his suite in the Ambassador Hotel in New York City on 22 February 1956. Ed Pfizenmaier, Beaton’s assistant, noted that Monroe did her own make-up and ‘came just by herself, with these two little dresses… it was as simple as that.’ Beaton later recalled ‘She romps, she squeals with delight, she leaps on the sofa. She puts a flower stem in her mouth, puffing on a daisy as though it were a cigarette. It is an artless, impromptu, high-spirited, infectiously gay performance. It will probably end in tears.’ The session produced one of Monroe’s favorite portraits, which hung in her New York apartment that she shared with her third husband, Arthur Miller.
