circa 1780, 10inch sighted octagonal browned barrels signed Wogdon LONDON, geometrically engraved breeches, foliate engraved barrel tangs, border engraved stepped and bolted colour hardened locks signed Wogdon, full stocked with border and foliate engraved blued steel mounts, the trigger guards with acorn finials, in their green cloth lined oak case, the lid with Chippendale handle, complete with cleaning rod, turnscrew, mould, correct flask and mainspring clamp. Guards. Good re-brown to barrels, traces of case colour to the locks, and traces of blueing to the mounts. Serial no. 9737 pertains to 1827 listed in the Mantons: Gunmakers by Neal & Back and these guns are listed in The Manton Supplement by Neal & Back. Captain Hope served in the Coldstream Guards from 1824 to 1844 when he retired as Lieutenant Colonel and he was the second son of General Sir John Hope, 4th Earl of Hopetoun. Lidded compartments with bone lifters and bone keyhole escutcheon.
