Sold according to the ACT 54 Geo. 3, Cap 56`-9in. This particular Parliamentary Act was intended to protect original three-dimensional figural and sculptural works from being copied by other artists and craftspeople for a period of fourteen years from the date of their invention: `..provided the Proprietor or proprietors do cause his, her or their Name or Names, with the Date, to be put on all and every such new and Original Sculpture, Model, Copy and Cast...` It is therefore an early form of copyrighting.
