München 24.XI.1812 bzw. 20.II.1813.An den böhmischen Botaniker, Pflanzen- und Ethnographica-Sammler sowie Forschungsreisenden Franz Wilhelm Sieber in Prag (1789-1844), der in den folgenden Jahren den Mittelmeerraum, dann Südafrika, Australien und Mauritius bereiste. Im November 1812 schreibt ihm Schrank: "... Daß Sie jezt in Ihrer Vaterstadt, und in Ihrem Zimmer unter Ihren Dächern die Schäze mustern, welche Sie auf Ihren Reisen gesammelt haben, daran ist wohl nicht zu zweifeln; aber daran möchte ich wohl ein bißchen Zweifel tragen, daß Sie ... Sich noch erinnern, was wir in Salzburg unter Vermittelung des Dr. Hoppe miteinander ausgemacht haben. Ich habe unterdessen Ihre Eigenthumsrechte an der cherlerienförmigen Pflanze gerettet. Kaum war ich in München angekommen, als ich darüber bey unserer Akademie eine vorläufige Vorlesung hielt, und eine ausführliche versprach, sobald ich durch Sie in den Stand gesezt seyn würde, dasjenige zu sagen, was man nur an der lebenden Pflanze beobachten kann. Sie hat unterdessen den Namen Siebera cherleriodes, und damit dieser Name, so wie Ihre Entdeckung Ihnen gesichert werde, trug die Akademie darauf an, daß gegen die Gewohnheit diese Vorlesung in den öffentlichen Zeitungen angezeigt wurde ... Es kömmt nun lediglich auf Sie an daß Sie mich in den Stand sezen, die ausführliche Abhandlung auszuarbeiten, welche ich der Akademie versprochen habe ...". Er unterzeichnet als "Director des botan. Gartens der königl. Akademie der Wissensch." und fügt hinzu: "Not. Sie bedürfen keiner weitern Addresse; die Post verfehlt meine Wohnung so wenig, als die hieher kommenden Bothen." - Im "Hornung" des Völkerschlacht-Jahres 1813 bedankt sich Schrank für eine "überschickte Pflanze". "... Sie haben aber wohl vergessen, mir die Beobachtungen, welche Sie an der lebenden Pflanze gemacht haben, beyzufügen, so wie auch die Zeichnung, die Sie von ihr in diesem Zustande genommen haben. Die reife Kapsel wird wohl zur Vollständigmachung der Gattung nicht unnüz seyn, aber zur Begründung der Gattung halte ich sie nicht für nöthig. Mir wird sie vorzüglich wegen der Saamen erwünschlich, die ich im hiesigen Garten der Akademie auszusäen wünsche. An der getrockneten Pflanze finde ich das, was Linné Nectarien nennt, nicht; fehlen sie wirklich? ...". Erwartet eine angekündigte Veröffentlichung Siebers und fährt fort: "Auch kann ich Ihnen einen Botanisten nennen, welcher den vorgeschlagenen Tauschhandel zweifelsohne eingehen wird; es ist der Director der großherzogl. Baadenschen Gärten Herr Zeyher zu Mannheim. - Wenn Sie auf Ihren Reisen Saamen von seltnern Gewächsen zu sammeln Gelegenheit haben, so wollen Sie sich des hiesigen Gartens erinnern, in welchem sie dann als Pflanzen ohne Aufhören Ihre Freygebigkeit rühmen werden ...". - Der genannte Johann Michael Zeyher (1770-1843) war seit 1804 Hofgärtner und seit 1805 Gartendirektor in Schwetzingen. 1812 wurden die öffentlichen Anlagen in Mannheim nach seinen Plänen gestaltet. - Selten.
