Three mid 19th century framed oval silk embroidered pictures, the first with a garlanded girl seated before a neo-classical plinth in landscape, 17.5cm high, and two small oval pictures one with Cupid, billing doves and hearts in landscape, the second with a Bacchic figure playing a pipe before goats, in landscape, 7.5cm high Condition ReportOverall the embroidered pictures are in good condition, but the larger one has some small brown marks starting to appear on the material and the smaller ones both each have a small stain. The sizes quoted in the description are excluding the frame. The ebonised frame is broken in parts , the large embroidery - the frame has a chip at the base.

The wool and coney coat has slight discolouration to the fur lapels and the the back of the coat skirt. Possibly from being folded and put away, the pink dress has a slight hole by the drop waist and a small mark, the peasant style dress has an ink stain to the front of the skirt, the black slip has the faintest white mark just under the waist to the front.

ROYAL HOUSEHOLD UNIFORMS OF THE HON. ALEXANDER GRANTHAM YORKE (B.1847-1911) LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY Comprising a blue full dress coat with red facings and gold embroidery, a blue undress coat with red facings and gold embroidery, a black Edwardian evening dress tailcoat with ER VII buttons, a pair of white breeches, three cocked hats with varying loops and buttons a braided sword knot and one uniform trunk Provenance:The Hon. Alexander Grantham Yorke, and thence by descent The Hon. Alexander Yorke was a son of the 4th Earl of Hardwicke and was a Groom-in-Waiting to Queen Victoria (1884-1901) and Extra Groom in Waiting to King Edward VII (1901-1911). He was a courtier to Queen Victoria and, by popular account, the provoker of the most famous remark in British regal history. He was attending one of the Queen's dinner parties at Windsor Castle and at one point turned to his German neighbour and told him a slightly risqué story. The German, who evidently was pleased easily, burst into near hysterical laughter and began to clutch his sides in riotous appreciation. The Queen then asked to hear the story and, after Yorke had reluctantly repeated it, she delivered her historic riposte: "We are not amused." Condition Report: All in worn condition, showing signs of age and long term storage. Lining of the brocade coat is distressed. Some old moth damage throughout all. All buttons present. ROYAL EQUERRY'S UNIFORMS OF THE HON. ALEXANDER GRANTHAM YORKE (B.1847-1911) THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY Comprising a scarlet tunic with blue facings and gold embroidery, blue trousers with gold lace, a blue frock coat with mourning bands, a great coat, a cocked hat with gold embroidered loop, a crimson and gold dress sash, a dress waist belt and sling, a pair of brass spurs and two uniform trunks, one labelled for Manning & Co, London. Provenance:The Hon. Alexander Grantham Yorke, and thence by descent Prior to becoming the groom in waiting to Queen Victoria, The Hon. Alexander Yorke was an equerry to H.R.H The Duke of Albany between 1874-1884 Condition Report: Condition is worn, signs of long term storage, evidence of moth throughout. For the scarlet tunic, colour remains good overall. Buttons and braiding all present. The exterior black braiding on the blue frock coat is fraying. all buttons present. Tailored holes for epaulettes to shoulders. Lining intact. Great coat with some evidence of moth mainly to lining. All buttons appear to be present. Hat somewhat worn with button and lining intact. Two piano shawls, one with overall embroidery of foliate design in scarlet, cream, orange and purple, on a cream ground, approx. 142 cm x 152 cm excluding trim and tassels, the other with cream silk embroidery on a grey silk ground, approx. 150 cm x 160 cm excluding border and fringe CONDITION REPORTS There is what appears to be a small repair to the shawl with the multi-coloured decoration approx. 3 mm x 3 mm. The cream shawl has a large dark mark to one edge and a similar one near one corner as well as an area of grubbiness/stain to the centre. Both have some loose threads and small brown foxing type marks. Otherwise general wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for more details
