Leonard Campbell Taylor (British 1874-1969) - The Chess Game: interior with figures at a table, watercolour, 33cm x 36.5cm, within a pierced gilt frame. Note: this watercolour reputedly came out of a large house in Leeds after the death of the last occupant. There were two pictures by Taylor that had been commissioned of and for the house. These works and other items from the house were then auctioned, including furnishings that appear in the paintings.
A VICTORIAN ROSEWOOD AND BOX ST GEORGE PATTERN CHESS SET, the Kings with beehive style turned finials, the white knights with inset opaque glass eyes, unmarked, king 3" high (Est. plus 24% premium inc. VAT)Condition Report: White--both knights are glued on to bases, one knight has small nicks to base and this one also lacks right ear, one bishop has a minute nick to one blade knop, one rook has a minute chip to one turret. Black-- king lacks top finial and has slight loss to turning on top, one pawn has losses to top turned blade (smallest), one rook has loss to one outer turret, both knights have original base(one with loss) but the horse heads are different and poorly carved in a soft wood.
