A Jaques traveling chess set with bone pieces, mahogany folding case marked "London, In Statu Quo, Chess Board", 29 x 24 cm. Condition report The board lays nearly flat. If you press down on the red right hand corner there is some movement. The white side locking mechanism works fine, the red side does not want to work but can be forced to work by pulling up the lever, though it can unlock if the board is knocked.
A William IV rosewood combined games and sewing Table, with rectangular fold over top with parquetry fields for chess, backgammon and cribbage, above frieze drawer with inscription to underside and basket undertier, raised on chamfered column and quadraform base applied with squashed bun feet, W 45 cm x H 75 cm x D 31 cm.
A Staunton pattern boxwood and ebony chess set - mid-20th century, the kings 7.4cm high, the pawns 3.6cm high, in a pine box; also containing a letter from the owner regarding provenance.* Complete. The black king has a chip to the cross finial (appears to be a factory fault, as it is under the varnish). One white pawn has a small shrinkage split to the base. A little wear to ebonised finish to the black knights. No other faults. The box has some losses to the edges of the sliding lid.

Publisher's color printed paper over boards, all edges gilt. 7 1/4 4 1/2 inches (18.5 x 11.5 cm); xiv, 196 pp.; with title and frontispiece printed in black, red, and gold inks, numerous diagrams in text, 4 pp. ads at rear, and with approximately 47 pp. of manuscript notes on blanks, about 30 of which are full or nearly-full-page, including ten hand-drawn diagrams. Rubbing and wear mostly along the spine and edges, the spine toned, a few small stains and worn spots to boards, two leaves with short edge tears, otherwise the contents are generally clean and bright. George Hope Verney's comprehensive manual on his chess variants, including his popular four-handed (four-player) chess, rules for chess on round boards, and various other two to eight-player games of his design.
