Gilbert Bayes (1872-1953), a white marble sculpture of a water baby, carved as a naked boy seated on a rock with a garland of flowers, 55cm high. Provenance: The Gilbert Bayes Charitable Trust. A Symbolist bronze figure representing an allegory, rich green patination, unsigned, on an orange and cream marble cylinder and block base, 41.5cm high overall. See Sothebys, London, 19th and 20th century Sculpture, 15th March 1991, lot 309 for a bronze door knocker 'Allegory of Sculpture' attributed to Harry Bates (1850-1899). See also the collection of the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, Bedford for another example of the door knocker: there fully attributed to Harry Bates ARA as it has been identified from a photograph by the artist's son and was possibly exhibited at the Fine Art Society in 1902. Jean-LEon GErome French, 1824-1904 la Joueuse de Boules (the ball player) signed: J L GERoME, stamped SIOT-PARIS and numbered 216H gilt bronze 27.4cm., 10.75in. Gerome is believed to have been inspired by the antique sculpture of A Satyr Examining his Tail in the Vatican museum in Rome. *Timyn (William, 1903-1990). Abstract figure, bronze sculpture, with patina, cast at the Morris Singer Foundry, London, designed for the TV Times Editor's Special Award, and given to Lord Buxton and the Survival team in 1989, approx. 140 mm high, 140mm width and 80mm depth, mounted on a marble plinth approx. 52mm high William Timyn was Austrian by birth and came to England in 1938. He is best known as a wildlife artist, sculptor and illustrator, and produced cartoons for the Blue Peter programme. He worked with the Morris Singer foundry from the 1970's onwards. (1)

Philippe Hiquily (1925-) (French): Moving Bronze Sculpture, signed "Hiquily 1/1", 58cm high, 86cm long *Hiquily was born in 1925 in Paris. He enlisted in the army in 1944 and was posted to Indo-China between 1945 and 1947, where he was inspired by the temple of Angkor and the mobile bamboo fountains of the Lao mountains. In 1948 he began at Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was interested in primitive arts and frequented the Musee de L'Homme in the Louvre. He graduated from the Beaux-Arts in 1953 with prize for sculpture for a piece in iron entitled "Neptune".

He has been commissioned for many public art projects including the world's largest bronze sculpture group for Pioneer Plaza at the Dallas Convention Center which depicts a historic cattle drive with forty longhorns and three cowboys on horseback. In 1976 he was named official Texas Bicentennial Artist. BRITISH COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, Historical Medals By Subject, Dr Ludwig Mond (1839-1909), FRS, Chemist, Industrialist and Art Collector, 70th Birthday, large hollow (but filled) Bronze Tribute Medal, 1908/9, by Edouard Lanteri, bust left in large profile, wearing suit, rev a list of his academic appointments and society memberships, 114mm, in green velvet-lined octagonal leather case of issue (BHM 3974, R3; Eimer 1911). Virtually as made, extremely rare. The Mond Nickel Company, to which he gave his name, merged with INCO [The International Nickel Company of Canada], in 1928. Edouard Lanteri (1848-1917), for many years Professor of Sculpture at the Royal College of Art. The medal is made in two halves united at the rim, but it is not clear whether the impressions for each side are cast bronze or electrotypes. It is a handsome and rare tribute medal to Mond who died in December 1909, 9 months after his 70th birthday.
BRITISH COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, Historical Medals, The Franco-British Exhibition, London, Gilt-bronze Medal, 1908, by F Bowcher, seated figures of Britannia and Marianne, standing Fame behind, rev a Fame by exhibition buildings, a tablet (and space below) engraved, “G Thillaye Agent Général de la Caisse d’Epargne et de Prévoyance de Paris – Diplome d’Honneur”, 64mm (BHM 3960, listed only as 51mm or 32mm), extremely fine; with a French medal for the French and City of London Commercial Associations, by L Coudray, 1903, Britannia and Marianne by Channel, rev legend and (un-named) tablet, 54mm, about very fine; National Federation of Fruit and Potato Trades, bronze medal, by G Rayner Hoff, 1921, awarded 1947 (Toye & Co), 57mm, very fine and with a strong obverse design. (3) G Rayner Hoff, ARCA, played an important role in the development of Australian sculpture and, in 1927, was only the fourth sculptor to win the Wynne Prize (Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia). He was commissioned to sculpt the George V memorial at Canberra, but died in 1937 before it was completed (in fact the second sculptor John E Moorfield also died before it was completed and the War gave rise to further delays. It was finally unveiled in 1953).

Enzo Plazzotta, A female bust, bronze unsigned, 49cm Enzo Plazzotta (1921-1981) was born in Mestre, near Venice. He initially studied architecture and sculpture in Milan, his studies were, however, interrupted by World War II. He became a partisan leader near Lake Maguire. After the war he was commissioned by the Italian Committee of Liberation to commemorate their collaboration with British Special Forces. He presented the statuette personally to the Special Forces Club in London and stayed, falling for the English freedom of political thought. He became known for portraiture, horse and dance subjects.
