She was an international celebrity of the Ancien Régime, and a highly successful female professional artist in a period when women were denied any full academic training. The artist outlived Napoleon and the Bourbon Restoration.

He was an unapologetic exponent of countrified realism creating endearing genre images that have become celebrated icons of America. Rockwell provided illustrations for a number of publications such as the Saturday Evening Post for which he produced over 320 covers.
