A German Painted Porcelain Plaque, after Louise Vigée Le Brun, circa 1870, rectangular, depicting a self portrait of the artist and her daughter, in embrace, half length, wearing classical clothes, indistinct impressed number, inscribed (perhaps later) on the reverse "324 Le Brun et Fille No.14 £6 Le Brun plus child by Wagner", 21.5cm by 14cm, in decorative gilt and gesso frame See illustration Elizabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun was a friend of Marie-Antoinette, and official painter. She was an international celebrity of the Ancien Régime, and a highly successful female professional artist in a period when women were denied any full academic training. The artist outlived Napoleon and the Bourbon Restoration.
