BINDING BENTZON (THÉRÈSE) Jacqueline... with Illustrations by Albert Lynch, NUMBER V OF 40 COPIES on Whatman paper with an ORIGINAL WATERCOLOUR BY ALBERT LYNCH on the half-title, and signed by the author below the vignette on the final page of text, title in red and black, specially printed frontispiece and colour plates and vignettes by Lynch, captioned tissue-guards, finely bound in full blue crushed morocco by D.W. Smith and F. Mansell (signed on front turn-in), sides with wide floral gilt tooled borders containing multiple small inlaid medallions with bluebells and irises in tan and black morocco, inner gilt dentelles with initials 'WTW' at corners, marbled endpapers, g.e., gilt panelled spine with similar inlays and floral decoration, raised bands, slight wear to joints and one or two spine bands, slipcase (worn and split at top), folio, New York, Boussod, Valdon & Co., 1893 Footnotes: 'BOUND BY R.W. SMITH. FINISHED BY F. MANSELL': a fine example of a binding by the Grolier Club's first in-house binders, produced for the businessman William Thompson Walters, whose art collection formed the basis of the Walters Art Museum in Liverpool, Pennsylvania. The volume is one of forty copies of the American edition, signed by the author, with an original watercolour by the illustrator Albert Lynch, and with specially produced colour versions of the plates. Provenance: William Thompson Walters (1820-1894), his monogram in corners of inner turn-ins; Francis Kettaneh (1897-1977), morocco bookplate on front free endpaper. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
