Ruby Carving of Hummingbirds by Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio This colorful carved gemstone sculpture depicts two ruby hummingbirds, mother and her offspring playing together. While the offspring is hovering above, playfully circling around its mother, the mother is perched on a polished egg-shaped rose quartz crystal on top of a columnar form comprising carved ruby cylinder with flower patterns and a spherical rose quartz bead, accented with borders of gold vermeil. Raised on a hexagonal rock crystal base on top of green zoisite base. Measuring 12 x 8 x 5 1/2 in Footnotes: Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio Following a second-generation family tradition in the fabrication of objects d'art, Luis' studio specializes in the carving of ruby. The second hardest stone after diamond, few artists have managed to successfully work this mineral since it requires a very advanced technique for carving and polishing.
