Description
American Dragoon Officer's Saber, possibly Maine, c. 1780. Elaborate brass openwork hilt, with three scrolling branches joining a tapering narrow knuckle bow and connecting to an olive shaped pommel, smooth cherry grip; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and three narrow fullers. Blade lg. 33, overall lg. 39 5/8 in. Condition: Hilt has been polished and has scattered dings and dents, grip has stable shrinkage crack, hilt has a little movement on the blade tang; blade has scattered gray toning, areas of light surface oxidation and light to moderate pitting.
