American Horseman's Saber,
American Horseman's Saber, possibly Connecticut, c. 1780. Brass hilt, pierced counter-guard with decoratively curled quillon, tapering knuckle bow connecting to a round pommel with a period-repaired casting flaw in the side and reeded bone grip; curved single edge blade with false edge at the tip and three narrow fullers with a trace of bluing. Blade lg. 32 7/8, overall lg. 38 1/2 in. Condition: Brass toned to deep greenish yellow, minor wear and scratches on the hilt, grip has a crack and ships at the top; blade toned to mottled gray/brown and has areas of light pitting at and near the tip.
