American Horseman's Saber, Likely Newburyport, Massachusetts, c. 1770. Brass hilt, counter-guard with down turned quillon and two slots, two branches joining a tapering knuckle bow and deeply chased lion's head pommel, spiral carved walnut grip with thin brass ribbon wrapping; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and three narrow fullers; black leather scabbard with 'X' and dot tooling, sheet brass tip and throat. Blade lg. 32 7/8, overall lg. 39 1/4 in. Condition: Brass toned to deep yellow/green, hilt is tight on the blade tang; blade is toned to mottled gray, edge has numerous shallow nicks; scabbard is sound but has been repaired just below the throat and has some surface loss.
