EVENING STANDARD DRAMA AWARD FOR 'THE HOTEL IN AMSTERDAM'

together with two posters for The Hotel in Amsterdam produced by The English Stage Company at the Royal Court Theatre, starring Paul Schofield; illustration by Daniel Bachardy, design by Bryan Cooper, and two copies of the play The Hotel in Amsterdam published by Faber & Faber in 2003.

Sketches of leading actors by the artist Don Bachardy were incorporated into a several play bill and poster designs promoting Osborne's plays. As well as the likeness of Schofield featured in the current lot, Bachardy's sketch of Jill Bennett features in the poster for Time Present (lot 37). Bachardy (b.1934) was the partner of the writer Christopher Isherwood. They were friends with Mary Ure when she was in Hollywood, and joined Tony Richardson and Osborne at La Beaumette in Valbonne, the house they had rented for the summer of 1961 where Osborne stayed with Jocelyn Rickards.
