An Eight Day Enamel and Silver Strut Travelling Timepiece, in fitted Case, case back with maker's mark W & H (Walker & Hall) Birmingham hallmark for 1931One very minor chip to the enamel top right hand corner, otherwise enamel looks in good condition. Glass with minor scratches dial with minor staining mark at 12, and some minor srcatches to the dial centre. Silver hall mark and silver mark are clear and not rubbed. Hand setting correctly and winding smoothly, movement is working. No alarm function.

Walker & Sons were a prestigious cabinetmaker established in 1848 in Shoreditch, then the heart of London's furniture making area. They subsequently opened a showroom on Bunhill Row.Condition: Seemingly intact and sturdy, but in need of a good clean to remove mildew, spider's webs and grime from years of storage. Norah Molly Campbell (1888-1971), two 1920s satirical etchings comprising, 'The Murder Trial', 1925, showing an amassed crowd and policemen outside The Old Bailey, with a motorcar in front, frame 34.5cm high, 27cm wide, and 'The Sights' showing characterful visitors inside a church or cathedral, frame 37.5cm high, 25.3cm wide, both titled in pencil bottom left and signed 'Molly Campbell' in pencil bottom right, mounted, framed and glazed. (2)FOOTNOTE: Full of quality, character and gentle humour! Norah Molly Campbell was a painter and etcher who studied at the Goldsmith's College and Crystal Palace School of Art. A mid-Victorian William Robert Smily silver lidded honey pot the cylindrical body chased with scrolling floral and foliate motifs, with unengraved shield escutcheon, blue glass liner, the lid engraved with an armorial, with London hallmarks for 1846, 7cm high, together with a Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst Ltd (Walter Walker & Brownfield Tolhurst) scallop edged silver dish with London hallmarks for 1888, 14cm diam, and a silver spoon with rubbed hallmarks, 372g silver weight, total weight 474g. (3) Condition: Honey pot with losses to thumb tab opener, armorial and engraved design to lid worn from polishing, hallmarks and engraved design on body rubbed and worn from polishing, but in better condition than the lid. Scratches and dings to base. Dish in excellent condition with no cracks or dents, but noting surface scratches, possibly once with gilt interior? The painting is ornately framed but not glazed. The frame has some minor scuffs and knocks commensurate with age.

Maharajpoor Star 1843 (Private George Walker H. M. 16th Lancers), fitted with contemporary ornate suspension featuring dual sabres and crown, riband buckle, very fineGeorge Walker was born in St. James, Dublin in 1810 and attested with the 16th Lancers at London on 10 July 1830 at the age of twenty, after having made his living as a labourer. Walker was to serve abroad in the East Indies for 21 years of what was to become a 23-year career in the service.Walker was promoted Corporal five years after entering the service and then to Sergeant three years later. However, he was not to retain this rank for long as he was reduced to Private in August 1843 following his sentencing by court martial for drunkenness. He was advanced Corporal once again in July 1844 and in this rank transferred to the 3rd Light Dragoons on 1 December 1845. He was made Sergeant in March 1847 before again being court martialled for drunkenness and reduced to Private just four months later in July.Despite these repeated instances of drunken behaviour, Walker again found himself promoted to Corporal in March 1850, and this time managed to hang on to the rank. He volunteered for the 9th Lancers on 1 November 1852 and served with them as Corporal for the remainder of his time with the Colours. Walker was discharged at Umballa on 30 September 1853, being found medically unfit for further service resulting from his length of service and the harsh climate. His discharge papers make note of the impressive breadth and experience of Walker's long service. He served for the whole length of the First Afghan War with the 16th Lancers, including the assault and capture of Ghuznee, and then went on to serve at Maharajpoor in December 1843. Walker was then an active participant in the Second Anglo-Sikh War as part of the 3rd Light Dragoons, and was engaged at the Battle of Ramnagar, the passage of the Chenab River, as well as the actions at Sadoolapore, Chilianwala, and Goojerat in 1848-49.Walker would have likely been further entitled to a Ghuznee Medal 1939 and a Punjab Medal 1848-49 with clasps for Goojerat and Chilianwala; sold together with copied research.…
