Lot 73

Registration - UBR 425RChassis No. - 9D15DGX105944M.O.T. - ExemptOdometer - 71,656Now an extremely rare sight in the UK, this example of the HC-era Vauxhall Viva is one of only around 30 left on the road. Presented in pale yellow with brown interior, ‘UBR 425R’ is the estate model, though now it would likely be pitched as a three-door hatchback or, more likely, a shooting brake. In base - for the estate - L trim, this Vauxhall is powered by the 1,256cc four-cylinder engine offered across the Viva range at the time, here matched to a four-speed manual gearbox. Equipped with period features such as the two-spoke steering wheel, simple dashboard design, chrome details, and minilite-style wheels, with rear bench seat.Coated with Ziebart rust protection from new, ‘UBR 425R’ has benefitted from being having its chassis and bodywork preserved for decades. With only two former keepers from new, the odometer only reads 71,656 indicated miles, and there is extensive documentation covering recent work carried out. The vendor rates ‘UBR 425R’ as being in very good condition overall; the bodywork, paint, and interior are reckoned in ‘good’ condition, while the engine, transmission, and electrics are all considered ‘excellent’. Now unusual example of Vauxhall’s Viva estateCherished model with only three total ownersDesirable specification A key series of family cars for Vauxhall for the better part of two decades, Vauxhall’s Viva was launched in 1963, with the HA model as the first-generation model. The one-litre two-door saloon lasted three years before the second-generation HB version arrived, expanding the range. Offered with a 1.1-litre, 1.6-litre, or 2.0-litre unit, the Viva was also available in two- or four-door saloon models, or a three-door estate. These options continued into the third-generation HC version, which saw a revised engine line-up - 1.1, 1.3, 1.8, and 2.3-litre engines were available. A coupe was also introduced, but named Firenza, which was raced successfully. Production between 1970 and 1979, then replaced by the Astra, after more than 1.5 million Vivas were built.

Lot 72

Registration - DBU 274VChassis No. - 77KY138945M.O.T. - ExemptOdometer - 21,522This incredible 1980 Vauxhall Cavalier 1600 GL is a genuine time capsule. Described as being dry stored for most of its life, the vendor reports it has been kept 100% original as a reliable and unmolested example. The bodywork and interior are described as being in ‘excellent’ condition, as the images show, and original features include a radio and analogue clock. The period ashtrays in the rear doors are immaculate, as is the retro mustard cloth upholstery. The vendor adds that engine, transmission and electrics are in ‘excellent’ condition and the only alteration is an electric ignition and isolator; it now “starts on the button every time”. Further boosting its practicality, it has stronger rear springs to better handle passengers and luggage. Registered in April 1980, ‘DBU274V’ is MOT exempt and has an odometer reading 21,522 miles. Further highlights include a pristine boot complete with unmarked original spare wheel. The vendor has owned it for more than a decade, and it has been serviced annually. The car comes with its original handbook as well. ‘DBU274V’ is described as a rare classic “and a very usable car”. The Cavalier was a breakthrough car for Vauxhall. Introduced in 1975, it was based on an Opel design, with a ‘dropsnoot’ front end taken from the Manta coupe. The interior was also shared with the German Opel. This car was produced at Vauxhall’s Luton plant, with Cavalier production starting there in August 1977. This helped meet huge demand for the well-received Vauxhall, which quickly became a top-10 best-seller in the UK. In summary:‘Time-capsule’ Vauxhall CavalierWell cared for and usable classicOffered with no reserve

Lot 5

1966 Ford Cortina GT                                  Registration Number: SBF 612D Chassis Number: BA78FT37898 Recorded Mileage: 78,200 miles - Rare four-door GT model - Sympathetically restored in current long-term ownership The Ford Cortina was launched in 1962 ostensibly as a replacement for the Ford Consul. The Cortina was known as ‘project archbishop’ from conception to production, being eventually named after the glamorous skiing resort. Designed by Roy Brown (of Edsel infamy) it was available in both 2 and 4 door versions, fitted with a 1200cc engine. Aimed squarely at the family market of the Morris Oxford, Vauxhall Victor and so on, it was an immediate success.  The GT version followed in 1963, with lowered suspension, wider wheels, a twin choke Weber carburettor, and front disc brakes. With a claimed power output of 78 bhp it went pretty well! Fords’ traditional motorsport involvement took a huge leap forward with the introduction of this model. With immediate success in rallying, circuit racing and other disciplines, it became the byword for motorsport success, “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday!” In current ownership since 2012, this genuine four-door Cortina is presented in very original, lightly restored condition. Upon inspection our vendor discovered he owned a very solid and straight car, and so when embarking on a thorough yet sympathetic restoration, the shell required no more than a small repair to the floor under the driver’s feet, and attention to a jacking point. Finished to its original shade of Ermine White with a black vinyl interior, this must be one of the most original and unmolested Mark 1 GTs available today. The GT is complete with original log book and current V5C, original handbook, also a file of invoices and a photographic record of restoration.
