In 1956, Sottsass was hired by Adriano Olivetti to design electronic devices, office equipment, typewriters, and furniture. Ettore Sottsass was a founding member of The Memphis Group, Milan, a postmodern, collaborative, architecture and design studio. The group focused on furniture design with an emphasis on the unconventional juxtapositions of geometric shapes and bright clashing colours.
