Prince Paolo Petrovich Troubetzkoy,  Russian / Italian 1866-1938- Portrait of Princess Sofia Nikolaievna Galitzina, née Delianova; oil on canvas, feigned oval, 61.2 x 45.6 cm. Provenance:  Anon. sale, Sotheby's, London, 14 December 1995, lot 214.  Private Collection, UK. Note:  The son of a Russian nobleman and an American opera singer, Prince Paolo Troubetzkoy lived an international life, spending his early childhood and career in Italy before later immersing himself in the artistic circles of Moscow, Paris and Hollywood.  During his formative years in Italy Troubetzkoy studied under the painter Daniele Ranzoni (1843-1899) and the sculptor Giuseppe Grandi (1843-1894), whose loose, vivid portrayals of their subjects would impact Troubetzkoy's works throughout his career both as a sculptor and a painter. The present work showcases Troubetzkoy's typical quick and flamboyant brushwork, which imbues the portrait with a sense of directness. Troubetzkoy was a sought-after society portraitist and depicted many significant cultural figures including the composer Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) and the writer Lev Tolstoy (1828-1910). 

Pierre Nicolas Selles,  French 1751-1831- Portrait of a man, bust-length, wearing a black coat with silver brocade collar, with a red sash and sword at his waist; oil on canvas, signed and inscribed 'Selles an II' (upper left), 52 x 38.7 cm. Provenance:  Private Collection, UK. Note:  The inscription on the present work refers to the second year of the French Republic, which dates the portrait to 1794, to the end of the 'Reign of Terror' which lasted between 1793 and 1794. Despite this context of immense political and social upheaval, the present sitter appears unapologetically elegant and fashionably dressed, as is typical of Selles's portraits. Indeed, other sitters include prominent figures from across the political spectrum, including Louis Charles Boirel Duperon (1728-1801), a counsellor to the King, and Anne-Josèphe Théroigne de Méricourt (1762-1817), a Belgian singer and revolutionary.

MIKE D'ABO - UNRELEASED 1972 ACETATE LP RECORDING. Top to see unreleased 1972 untitled 9 track studio recording from the influential British singer and songwriter Mike D'Abo (Manfred Mann, A Band Of Angels, Wizard's Convention amongst others). The double sided acetate recording features the 9 songs D'abo recorded at Olympic Studios between October and December 1972 and are (side 1): For Jackson, Fuel To Burn (different version to that was later released in 1974), Relax and All At Sea and (side 2): Poor Old Joe, I'm A Ram, May, Soldier, Sailor and The Day That War Broke Out. None of the songs have ever released on vinyl (the majority of the recordings were later released in 2004 on the CD compilation Hidden Gems & Treasured Friends). The acetate (hand written labels) is in clean Ex condition showing only a couple of light and minor surface marks and without any problems to playback. Housed with original generic sleeve handwritten 'Mike D'Abo Studio Recording'. A fascinating piece.
