A large canteen of German 800 silver Fiddle & Thread pattern flatware, H Mau Complete, including 24 dinner forks, 24 tablespoons, soup ladle, dessert knives and forks, carving set, serving slices, teaspoons etc. All pieces stamped 'H Mau 800' Removed from the German Embassy in London during the First World War, all pieces have been marked with an X for smelting. The German Embassy, 'Prussia House', was at 9 Carlton House Terrace and was occupied between 1916-17 by the American Embassy and between 1918-20 by the Swiss Legation. This canteen was saved from the smelters by the previous owner. Total weight of silver (minus knives and other handled cutlery): approximately 8.14 kg
