By Ross Morgan, two modern silver mounted yew tree fragments, London 1995 and 1997, the mounts with textured bark decoration, length 11.7cm. (2) Provenance: A Private Collection.Ross Morgan specialises in the complex technique of electroforming silver surrounds for cross-sections of wood and shells, using the higher standard of Britannia silver. When he wanted to register a maker’s mark at the London Assay Office, he had to create a name for his company at short notice. He thought of the metals which he used and decided to call the company CuAgAu (copper, silver and gold). To start with, he used the first two letters of the company name - Cu - as his maker’s mark. His earlier work thus bears the maker’s mark Cu. His later work bears a maker’s mark with his own initials RSM for Ross Somerville Morgan.
