Some of the drawers are a bit sticky. There is general wear and tear you would expect with it's age.

The secretaire drawer nicely fitted with six drawers and pigeonholes in contrasting shades of wood, 47'' wide x 19 3/8'' deep x 84 1/2'' high.

A George III Mahogany Secretaire Chest, with square edge to top, secretaire drawer with fall front and fitted interior, with three long graduated drawers under, on shaped apron and splayed bracket feet, 41.5ins wide x 21.5ins deep x 41.5ins highTo the top there is some general heavier scattered scratching and darker staining. On the back edge of the top there is some general areas of veneer repair and loss. On the left hand side there are various areas of veneer loss and cracking each around 1ins squared. Around all three front edges of the top there is slight rubbing and edge knocks. On the left hand side there is a shrinkage split running horizontally around 12ins long. On the right and left hand sides there is some general heavier scratching. On the right hand corner there is a small area of damage around 2ins long running vertically. On the left hand upright at the front there are areas of veneer loss, each around 3ins long running vertically. The same on the right hand side. On the third drawer the two handles are badly damaged and the moulding and beading around the drawer fronts have some areas of loss. Some veneer loss to the apron and some diagonal shrinkage splits to the feet. General heavier wear to the feet commensurate with age. Overall the item is structurally sound however there is a lot of movement in the joints.

In two sections with four drawers, the top drawer with a hinged drop down front reveals a fitted interior of pigeon holes, drawers and secret compartments and wrought iron handles, height 100cm width 71cm depth 42.5cmHeavy wear throughout, large chips and losses to the bottom edges of both sections, lacking connecting dowels, all joints are firm and solid. Unable to get into the top drawer. Escutcheon plates missing throughout. There are two holes just below the fall front lock, one of which has been filled. Fading etc throughout. Some areas of veneer missing throughout. Signs of old insect damage/worm, particularly to the feet/bottom section of the piece. There is some patching in areas. Some of the burr walnut has cracked. The middle bar has areas of wood missing and some repairs. Various staining, fading, ink marks and discolouration. There is some filling to the top drawer in two points. The leather is replacement.
