The letter, dated July 27th 1933, on 'Laurel and Hardy' headed and illustrated note paper sent from The Hal Roach Studio, Culver City. California signed by Stan Laurel and thanking Mr Lewis for a comic sketch 'The Black Maria' which had been submitted for their possible use on screen. The photograph is inscribed 'Hello Fred' and signed by both Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Mr Lewis was a British emigree to Canada where he worked as a mounted policeman
